Superior Self Storage
My boyfriend and I had been renting a storage unit with Superior Self Storage for about a year until last week (Thursday, June 6th, 2019). We have always made our payments in full and on time and have been very respectful of their rules. On June 3rd of this month my boyfriend called to give notice that we would have our belongings out by Thursday the 6th of this month at the latest and asked what he should do about this months payment since we did not feel we owed the whole month of June since we would have our belongings cleared out within the first week of the month. He was than told by the lady at the front desk (Lisa) over the phone to come down and make the full months payment, and on Thursday when we were done clearing out our belongings he would get his deposit back (the deposit that we had to put down when we first received our unit) AND that he would be re-embersed for the days in June that we were not there (from the 6th of June on) - she said worst case scenario we would be charged for half of the month, in which case we would still get half of the months payment back. My boyfriend trusted in this employee and went down there that same day he had the phone call (June 3rd) and made the full months payment for June 2019. On Thursday June 6th we went just like we said we would (I with a couple of friends as my boyfriend was busy) and cleared out all of our belongings and left the unit vacant at which time I went up to the front office and told her (Lisa) that everything was cleared out, that I was leaving, and that my boyfriend would be back to collect the money that we were owed from our original deposit and the days in June that we would no longer have a unit with them (from June 6th on) as he was busy this day, and she said that was perfectly fine. We were busy this weekend so today (Monday June 10th) he went down there to collect what we were owed only to be told by that same employee he had spoken to on the phone (Lisa), who told him to go this route in the first place that he could only get his deposit back and that they would be keeping the full months payment for June even though we were out on the 6th of June. Her excuse was that their business goes by a calendar month and for no reason that she could give us she needed the full payment for June even though we were only their for 6 days of the month (she had previously told my boyfriend that he would be charged for half of the month at the MOST and receive a refund for the other half of the month).
It's baffling to me that an employee of a business can say one thing to than turn around and do completely another. We followed protocol and did the right thing by giving our notice and having open communication only to end up being blind sided by this ''business''.
Very disappointing, and do not recommend!!
PS - For those of you thinking ''why don't they bring this issue to management?'' Surprise! We did, and apparently it was management who told the woman employee that we had been dealing with (Lisa) that we are only entitled to our deposit back, and that they can do nothing about refunding us any portion of our full monthly payment for June even though we were only in the unit until the 6th of June.
So beyond frustrating! Especially when you go through all of the proper channels so that things like this DON'T happen
It is so not about the money at this point, this is just bad business and it is so upsetting.
