My friend told me about this place, saying it was $20 for a shampoo, cut, and blowdry but that they only took cash. So I came with $24 bucks in hand, knowing it should be enough for the whole shebang and tip. Upon walking in, I saw a sign on the side wall that said $20 for shampoo and cut. What? That kind of sucks. Especially considering it was a cold winter day so in order to be able to pay for this, I'd have to skip the blowdry, which according to the sign, was $28. Sigh. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday afternoon. The girl who cut my hair was nice and I think she did a good job. I'd be a little hesitant to go here if I want a special cut or style, but for a quick trim, it was good. Standing at the counter with my hair dripping wet, she tells me my total was $15. What?! So I guess my friend was right. However, I didn't want to ask them to dry my hair and risk having it be more and not having enough, so i just paid the $15+tip and left. They should really update their signs. And maybe take credit/debit because I'm sure they would get more business that way, and at least I could have left with dry hair.

They are capable of a complete hair make-over for very affordable prices and for that I admire them. It was my most recent trip here though that has inspired me to write this review. One day this past week, I was seeking help for my young daughters knotted hair. After admitting defeat in being able to manage her thin and easily knotted curly hair myself, I sought professional help. I first went to a business just across the street from here that specializes in children's cuts and "claims" to be high class. I made an appointment and after the stylist worked on my daughters hair for a half hour, I was told that "her next appointment was here" and that we would have to "come back another day to finish it." I was absolutely appalled and offended. I NEVER have been told to walk out of a salon with less than HALF a job done. My poor daughter! We were in shock by the level of unprofessionalism at the other salon. Well, we certainly couldn't have my daughter walking around like that so we were desperate to find another place to take her that evening to finish the job. We went here and were not only taken in immediately upon a walk in, but the staff were all EXTREMELY friendly and even apologetic and shocked at how the other "high class" salon let my daughter go. Anna was our stylist and she was an absolute doll. I would so very highly recommend her. She was so amazing to my daughter and so very accommodating. She was literally the sweetest and most humble stylist I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I will come back here again just for her to do my hair because I was that impressed with her sweetness and ability to do hair. My daughter was well treated and Anna truly turned our whole experience around this day. ANNA, you are a beautiful soul and I thank you so much for the job you did on my daughter, and all of the patience you had. Other salons claiming to be "high class" are so stuck up and downright rude these days. You never once put me down for the condition my daughters hair was in (unlike Buzzes and Beehives shockingly did!!!), and understood I came to you seeking help. You were so patient and sweet to my daughter and it truly meant the world to us both. You got all of the knots out, cut and styled her hair, and didn't try to nickel and dime us in even the slightest way. The girls that work here work HARD and I feel are underpaid. Other salons would have wanted $50+ to do what she did, but the cost here wasn't even half of that. The tip I left you, I truly felt you deserved and I will be back again for you. You are an amazing, beautiful person and I just wanted to say thank you, and that my daughter was so happy with her new and "tangle-free" hair you gave her. Please don't forget to tip well when you come here folks. These girls work hard and do it at extremely affordable prices and don't have a snotty "better than you" attitude when you walk through the door. A+ and 5 stars!!! Thank you so incredibly much!!

Someone mentioned Mena's Hair to me at a party over a month ago and recommended it because his wife went and he said our hair was similar. He spoke highly of the business but I was still hesitant. I love the fact that they are 24 hours! That's fantastic because I'm a super early bird! I had found the one closest to home and read the reviews on Yelp DAILY lol trying to make a decision. Today was the day! Instead of heading to the gym, I decided to go get my hair done. I arrived and the door was locked which was good because it was early but Emed saw me :) he smiled and advised the gentleman to open the door. I was greeted by a crew of nice men who said "good morning, how are you?" Which was nice because I'm the annoying morning person and I love to greet and be greeted lol I felt comfortable and the young man at the desk asked what services I needed. Basic, wash, deep conditioning and blow out. I went to get a cape, and got right to the shampoo bowl. Emed was incredible! Solid wash! I know the reviews said rough but I like rough because my scalp needs cleaning! The conditioner treatment was nice, sitting under the steamer. I was then sent to Aydin. He was very kind and did a fantastic job on my hair! I felt like a new woman! I appreciate what Mena's offers and I was out the door in 75 minutes! I will definitely be back!

She has a nice selection of R&B music that is appropriate and her space is always clean, which is very important to me. If she receives a telephone call during my appointment , she usually keeps it very short. I appreciate that very much. I live south of Chicago; therefore, adjusting to prices was something I had to do, but she provides good services. The building needs some work; particularly in terms of the bathrooms. I have emphasized this to Renee because I think it is important for clients to feel comfortable in an environment; particularly when they are paying for services. Renee does not own the building but I have been assured this matter will be handled soon as the bathrooms are currently being remodeled. I have become very fond of Renee. She has found a great style that works for me. I usually wear interlocks as the style flatters my face. In addition, the style allows me minimal time to get ready in the morning. I am very busy and this style works for me. Renee educates me about my hair as well. She is always encouraging of my natural beauty and we have very interesting conversations about many topics. I recommend Renee as a stylist.

OH MY GOD RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. Now that I got that out of my…read moresystem.. I got my first full sew-in weave from this place so keep in my mind I had no idea how it was supposed to be applied or how it was supposed to look when finished. I was introduced to a woman named Sunette and scheduled an appointment with her for the following day.I arrived at the shop bright and early, gave her my picture and crossed my fingers. Her first mistake in doing my hair was how she braided it. She braided my hair into a circle which cut off ALL access to my scalp. I told her beforehand that I had severe scalp issues but whatever. The second issue with her braiding is that when my hair grew out, it became pointy at the top and "grew away" from my scalp making it look like I had some sort of deformity that I was trying to cover up with oodles of hair. Not a good look. I bought Bohyme brand hair for this particular installation because if I'm going to have somebody else's hair all over my head, it needs to be REALLY REALLY nice hair. I bought 3 packs of hair for her to use,two packs for the main platinum blonde color and another pack of a darker blonde to cover up the tracks. She ended up using 2 1/2 packs of hair (which I now know is way too much for a little head like mine) and subsequently caused the daily catastrophe that was trying to detangle my hair every morning. When she was finished, I admit I thought it looked nice at the time. That night I went to get food and realized I could not see through my bangs. She had cut my bangs very straight and blunt and they ended at about the tip of my eyelashes. What the hell? I had to go to Hair Cuttery in Munster to get my bangs fixed because at that point I was just fed up with her. Over the next couple of weeks trying to style and keep my hair from tangling was a personal hell I never wish to go through again. I had layer after layer after layer after layer of hair on my head and there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell it would have ever stayed straight. So much for spending $300 on tangle-free hair. I hate the music this store plays. It is the most repetitive uppity music I have ever heard and it hurts my soul. The next place I went to get my hair done showed me all the ways she erred and I honestly believe this woman has NO business being in a hair salon. There's no way a professional hair-stylist would have ever installed or braided hair the way she did mine. Stay away from this fraud.
