The well decorated bar runs along one wall and a large staircase leads to a balcony level overlooking the main bar area, great for people watching. It is a great place to go for pre-club drinks especially with cc's right next door, or even for pre- theatre drinks. Drinks promotions are always on offer. On sunny days, tables and chairs are outside and are even better for people watching. The staff are very friendly and there is always a 'party' atmosphere on evenings and weekends. They play good music and there is karaoke on certain nights as well as other promotions. If you want to have a quiet drink upstairs or out on the street,or even want to get the party started before hitting the clubs then this is the place to come.

We were early on a Saturday night and stopped in b/c I had recognized it from searching gay friendly pubs online. We were very pleased with the bartenders and beer prices and will stop back in before we leave the country. Good mix of people and age groups - friendly staff, good atmosphere. Really good time (minus the one Really drunk guy - but that happens)

The karaoke started slow, but that meant that the all-stars who showed up early (this guy named Travis should have a record deal, apparently he wrote Exile by Taylor Swift) got to do multiple songs. If you're not here on karaoke Thursday, you're probably having a bad time. The drinks were good. The food did not exist, unless you count the chocolate flavored condoms in the men's room.

Mainly a backpacker bar, the drinks are obviously cheaper. But this also means there are always events on for the ever-changing regulars to get involved with. Live music, movie nights, quiz nights, crab racing.... okay not sure about that last one. But the point is it wouldn't surprise me. Never any hassle, which considering the amount of chavs that frequent on the weekends (a result of the cheapness) and it's proximity to the Hive (next door) I think that's a rather impressive claim. I think it's largely down to the fact no one wants to get barred from this place. You may as well cut off your drinking arm...! Okay not really. With a tv on every wall, The Globe is a haven for sport lovers, often alternating the screens between 2 to 3 separate events. Eyes in the back of my head please...? Staff are laid back and friendly. Crowds are ever-revolving and always multi-national. If you're into random banter and cheap drinks, The Globe is perfect.

However, it's a good venue and I always have a good night here. There are lots a little cubby holes full of cushions so you can hide away from the dance floor and just have a drink and a chat. There is a dance floor big enough to strut your stuff if that's you thing or there are comfy seats around the dance floor if youd' rather watch other people strut their stuff. It's main drawback is the lack of beer garden. We get hardly any sunny days in Edinburgh as it is, so on those rare occasions I like to be able to make the most of them and get sunburnt in a beer garden. No can do here. For that reason I tend to drink next door in the Peartree, but then that brings me back to the original dilemma... they don't do food. The Blind Poet, on the other hand, does awesome food. And it's reasonably priced too. The only bad thing about it is that it's so popular with uni students at lunchtimes that you'll almost never find somewhere to sit, and when you do you'll have to wait a fair while before you get your food. So, the Peartree and the Blind Poet think they have come up with a great compromise: you can order and pay for your food in the Blind Poet, but eat it next door in the Peartree. The only problem with this is it's a) a massive hassle, and b) the Blind Poet is so nice inside you won't really want to eat your food next door. Hopefully they'll merge the two one day...
