Great supermarket in the center of Chamonix. Huge selection of produce (changes daily based on what's fresh), nice wine selection, great seafood. We walk the extra distance to get to this store specifically, as they have the widest array of things. Household goods and cosmetics, baby necessities, etc. are all downstairs. Having visited many mountain towns and considering the relative value of food here vs restaurants in the area, this store is fantastic. Few times I've gone there there is always a friendly staff person who speaks English well enough and is able to help me. Quality of food especially fresh but also packaged is quite good. You could not skimp here and spend 1/5-1/10 of what you would in the restaurants here. And while they are a few good restaurants, most are not worth your cash. Be warned though that the downstairs area with all non food items (yes coke and Pepsi are not food) is cramped and a little disorganized. But everything you need is there. This is a fairly decent grocery store for a ski-resort, although we didn't find it stocked as much fresh fruit and veg as the Casino stores, where we did most of our grocery shopping. However, everything in this Super U is very sensibly and logically laid out, so it's easy to nip in and out to quickly get what you need. And if you're buying more of the ready meal type food, rather than fresh ingredients, then this place probably has what you need. Where we did find Super U better than Casino was with it's range of beers, and we visited quite a few times to replenish our fridge with the raspberry Hoegarden they stock, which is delicious and very refreshing after a day on the slopes. read more

Expansive grocery market with most of your food needs, whether it be making a full meal at home/Airbnb or picking up items for a picnic. (However, get your fresh cheeses and meats at Chez Valerie done the street.) Got wine and fresh fruit here along with some cookies and snacks. Not the cleanest place but offers reasonable prices. read more

Went here on a trip to Chamonix but to be honest I was not impressed. All i wanted was a bottle of water and couldn't find it!The lower floor is hidden and not signposted so it took me 2 visits to find it and there was utter chaos in the design and organisation of the entire place. Also while there was a good selection of wines even the local choices seemed expensive and the quality varied a lot. The fruit and veg pretty good quality but again there was a sense that hygiene and care for consumer was not at the heart of this place. Needs a revamp! read more

All we wanted were some apples and bananas. The first checker starting speaking French and I responded, "English?" And she sneered, rolled her eyes and turned away. The second checker, who also was abrupt with me wouldn't sell us bananas without the price sticker. We couldn't locate the bananas' price on the disgustingly dirty touch screen and so brought them up with our properly labeled apples. This is the first time we've had problems dealing with any French people. But two ornery employees in a store located in the heart of the tourist district? Bad training going on.
