Just ate a superb lunch for 50% off here and--yes, that's right, 50% off lunch EVERY DAY! Super Sushi is only open from 12-2:30pm for lunch, but they serve at lightning speed if you're in a hurry and there's plenty of street parking to be had if you're zooming in by car (metered on the main road, but you might be able to find a free spot like we did on a nearby side street) this Thursday afternoon.
The interior was clean and reminiscent of old-school Chinese with an elegant twist. The turquoise blue and celadon green decor paired nicely with the Chinese watercolor landscape painting on the wall. Very calming and quiet for a lunchtime visit.
Service was fast, friendly, knowledgeable, and very efficient. The young man who initially took our order had an incongruous bit of a swagger, yet provided excellent service. As we spoke to another, older gentleman at about the Chinese origins of this Japanese sushi establishment, he mentioned that his nephew owned the place. Nice, a family business! We told the waiter we were vegan and he kindly noted that all tomago (egg) should be removed from our vegetarian sushi and asked if we wanted still wanted the usual sauce made with unagi on our tofu. (Eel? No thanks!) We were grateful that he thought of a small but critical detail before ingesting something without knowing. The Tofu 'Steak' (£4.20 for 3 deliciously light fried pieces) and Seaweed Salad (£3.60) appetizers and Yaki Udon stir-fried noodle (£6.00 with vegetables) arrived super quick, like within ~5 minutes of our order. All the waiters were polite and quite attentive, down to discreetly lifting every empty dish from our table at regular intervals and pouring our cups with tea when they were empty.
The assorted 9-piece Yasai Vegetarian sushi (£10.00) came out beautifully plated. The sushi might not have had the most authentic taste, as the rice had a very soft and moist texture different to the rice firmness of other sushi I've had at high-end restaurants, but all components were very fresh and tasty. Mushroom and eggplant bites in the nigiri were nicely seasoned, neither too salty nor oily and not just plain boiled vegetables. I liked the fact that they served natural ginger slices and wasabi paste, none of that artificial pink and glow-in-the-dark green stuff.
There were only two other small table groups besides us, but they were more than satisfied. We overheard multiple compliments stated aloud to each other and to the staff how much they enjoyed the food.
Last call? One more order of vegetable tempura (£5.80), please! We were full, but decided to indulge. No egg wash, so I don't know how they do it, but the tempura came out terrific and the light soy dipping sauce good enough to drink (Just kidding! But we did save the rest in a little container to take home). For 5 dishes and refillable tea in a pot, the bill only came out to a paltry £16.30 for two with 1/2-off AND we didn't have to even mention the discount because they already wrote it for us. Super Sushi, you are stupendous!
Oh, and they also have a £17 per person (min. 2) all-you-can-eat menu everyday as well. Children under 120 cm for half that, too! read more
