Although Super Start Batteries remains 100% Australian owned & operated and attributes its success to its policy "We will not be beaten on Price, Quality & Service" and it has worldwide distribution capabilities I purchase their products at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Battery Maintenance is something that too often gets over looked and when the batteries are neglected they rarely give you an advance warning that they're about to leave you stranded and frustrated.
A lot of vehicles now a days have maintenance free batteries so there isn't anyway to access the battery cells or a need too. My RV has (4) House Batteries and (2) Chassis Batteries and they are expensive and the health of these batteries is of the upmost importance, it takes a lot of juice to crank the high performance turbo charged diesel engine and the house batteries are required to keep the electrical system operating properly even though I have the ability to run the RV using shore power, the solar panels or the large generator.
Ensuring the batteries perform when I need them I have included them as part of my extensive preventative maintenance program and although the process of maintaining the batteries is rather simple there are a few things you need to keep in mind and at the top of the list is safety.

After removing the battery caps first verify the level in the batteries, if the fluid is low the plates will be exposed so they need topping off using distilled water, the proper level should cover the plates but just to bottom of the cap opening leaving room for the fluid to boil so it doesn't seep out once the caps are reinstalled it's important not to over-fill.
Being this isn't a tool I use often I keep it stored in a zip-lock bag to keep it from contamination and to keep it from drying out - it's a simple inexpensive tool that will make filling your batteries a breeze... read more
