We had fun watching the glass blowing demonstrations in the back. The man who worked on the small glass pumpkins was very nice and answered any questions we had. We bought a beautiful pumpkin on our way out and it's neat knowing the time and talent that went into making it. We had fun looking around at all the different pieces. The Harry Potter pieces were cute. I plan to stop in and buy another piece the next time we visit. read more

Came for a quick glass blowing session with my mom for her birthday present. I called as soon as they opened to make my 1pm reservation - we arrived about 15 minutes late and called ahead but they said I had an hour so was no biggie. We were planning to make a single ornament together, but they had pumpkins, and said we could both do it if we wanted Bc they had time so we changed it up on the spot so we could both make a pumpkin. We weren't sure about the stem and they didn't really explain it to us or show us what they would look like - although there were about 50 inside the store for us to see... Our guy was very friendly and nice - first my mom went and I was allowed to come back and take photos and videos (only one extra person can come back at a time) and she loved it. She chose the clear/white glow in the dark color and hers were cute and small. I chose standard orange with a green stem and had a good time - my mom's fiancee came back with me and took videos and images. Again, the guy was really nice and friendly and answered all my questions and explained how it worked while he was doing it...really neat. I told him I wanted a fatter pumpkin but that didn't really happen although we did try.... also - the stem was way bigger than I wanted.... After we did our pumpkins we saw all the others in the shop on display and saw the ones with the "hook" to hang them and they're way cute! I'm kind'a disappointed I didn't know the difference and there weren't examples to see in the back so you could really choose... either way - the stem on ours isn't what we saw on any of them - it's really huge and curly. Maybe decorative but doesn't look remotely realistic and I kind'a wanted a realistic pumpkin look. Regardless, everyone was really nice, they easily and happily accommodated us and even gave my mom $10 off because it was her birthday when I paid. Plenty of parking, large space, a really comfy and large glass blowing workshop space, a large gallery and a clean bathroom. What more do you need? They have some really pretty glass items for sale inside as well as Alex and Ani stuff. Based upon this first experience we will for sure come back and make something else later. Fantastic art spot that is a must-visit for the Staunton area. We visited and watched live demonstrations for a bit which was fascinating. The artists were extremely kind and informative, explaining what they were doing throughout the process. We ended up signing up for a glass blowing session the next day as well and got to make our own ornament which was a very cool experience. As a shop, this glasswork studio & gallery is exquisite. The artistry present is delightful and very tempting. I loved so many pieces. My husband and I opted for the glassblowing experience. This is actually where I was disappointed- I have blown glass several times already, simple studio sessions- this is literally blowing only. Meaning, you're given a clean mouthpiece, and a tube and you watch a master-glassblower do everything and then you get to blow in your tube. Other companies I have done studio pieces have you add the color, handle the pipe in the furnace & the tools to help form the glass. And for the same price. Storefront= 5 stars it's awesome as a gallery & shop (and you can watch them making glass pieces) Glassblowing= 2 stars simply wasn't what I expected- too hands off If you've never done this, you'll probably think it's cool. read more

If you ever go to Staunton, I recommend coming here to experience the glass blowing demonstrations and to see their collection of hand blown glasses. Walking in, I immediately held my breath because there's glass everywhere. I didn't want to break anything. It's all so beautiful and they even have glass blown jewelry on the side, perfect for gifts. In the back left, there's a doorway you can go through to watch demonstrations. They start at 1pm. You can blow your ornament for $55. If you're with your sweetie, you can blow your own ornament with both of your breaths in it. That's what my husband and I did and we choose our wedding colors and for it to be glow in the dark. The whole experience was awesome. read more

My mom made arrangements for my kids aged 10 and 8 to try the glass blowing class while we were visiting Staunton. The class is a personal demonstration and then each person gets to blow for a couple of moments to help shape an ornamental ball. It is truly a unique experience, but could probably be brought down a notch with explanation from the instructor, or perhaps have a kids explanation. The kids seemed a bit bored with the lengthy adult explanation, but were very pleased with the finished product, which was beautiful! We went on a hot day and it is VERY hot inside! My son and I had very little self control and thank goodness we found the $5.00 bin of small blown glass objects- because we wanted to buy 1 for everyone as a gift. They also have glass sculptures that sell for $4,000 - so there's something for everyone. The young man who did the glass blowing demonstration talked while he worked- explaining what he was doing - how he was opening up a bubble of air in the piece, why he was reheating the outside to keep the temperature even... He explained how and where the colors come from and talked about the purpose of different techniques. The do demos until 4pm every day. The staff was very sweet and accommodating. You can sign up to "blow your own ornament" which in truth just gets you a closer look, and then allows you to blow through a tube for a few minutes, but it's still a pretty cool way to be involved in making something beautiful. Price is around $40, I believe. Outside in the shop there are various assortments of absolutely stunning pieces. Be warned, this is not a place to find cheap knick-knacks, but each piece is handmade and priced accordingly to the craftmanship. Even without making a purchase it's a great place to just wander through and admire. There is free parking across the street. read more

While visiting my aunt in Lyndhurst, she took us on a day trip up to Staunton and this was the first place we stopped. The gallery is lovely, well lit, and filled with hundreds of amazing glass pieces. The staff in the gallery were kind and helpful, and made sure to point out the glass blowing studio, where the artist, Dan was working on vases. We were able to spend an hour watching Dan blow and shape two vases, and during the second, he explained the whole process, taking time at the end to answer any and all questions we had. We picked up a beautiful vase, and I'm looking forward to coming back on my next trip to take the glass blowing class that they offer. read more

This was a very very cool experience for me and my girlfriend. The artist took the time to explain the entire process, while demonstrating it, then we had our opportunity to actually blow the glass. It was a unique experience, and we were really glad we went. It's about $45 a person which is around the same cost as buying an individual piece of art there. I was always curious about glass sculpting, and how glassblowers design their work. It was time to put my curiosity aside, and enter another dimension. As soon as you enter the establishment you are heavily greeted with nothing but smiles. The staff was an awesome delight. Displayed at the front of the gallery are a variety of beautiful handcrafted glass design pieces that would be worth your wild. Within the back of the gallery you have the workshop. We watched a free live viewing of a glassblower working away at a few of his designs, which was fantastic to see live actually. We found this little gem in college and came here once for a glass blowing festival. It was free to get in and so neat and mesmerizing to watch and learn about the process from start to finish. I love that the staff here are passionate about educating folks and are usually always open to your questions. Last year we took my mom here for Mother's Day and I paid for her to do her own glass blown ornament. Talk about a neat experience! It was a little pricey, but worth every penny. It's something she had never done before (but LOVES glass anything), and probably won't have many opportunities to do again. She had fun picking her colors, and being "on stage" (although all she did was blow a little when he said to), but in the end she got a beautiful glass ball to take home and remember the day forever (well, we didn't get it that day--it was ready the next week for pick-up or shipping). Definitely love this unique place and take people here that are in from out-of-town if we're looking for something unique to do in the area. A great stop just a few miles from I-81. The glass blowing demonstration is free. Sunspots has bleachers for the spectators. Two guys were blowing glass during our visit. Both are friendly and knowledgeable. The location appears to be in an historical downtown area. This means you need to walk up a few steps to enter. I do not know if a wheel chair accessible door is available. Glass blown items and jewelry are available for purchase in the shop. The items in the shop are fascinating and hard to believe hand crafted. read more
