I attended the summer camp, where we got instructions in arts and crafts, tennis, swimming, golf, and a lovely canned female provided upstairs. The memories created by the staff -- whether in the restaurant or out in the sports areas -- created memories that I will cherish forever. The community is also wonderful, and if you join, you'll make many friendships that will last a lifetime. Dad's the second longest running member at RSGC, when he read that MGC was having a free wine tasting, we were in! The wine tasting area was set up on the outside patio, thankfully with a generous overhang-because this was the Friday night a few weeks ago when we had the unreal thunderstorm that lasted hours. Even so, we managed to try a wide variety of wines, generous pours, no limits. Terrific! Off we went inside for dinner, and my 'retro' wedge salad was somewhat modified and updated. The complimentary olive, celery stalk, radish, and sliced cucumber tray was pure 'retro'! I followed with swordfish which was tasty. Around the table were two veal chops and a petite filet. The two veal chops were both said to be the best anyone has ever had, and the petite filet was really good, according to my girlfriend. One thing-these are steakhouse prices, the 10oz filet was $47-and like a steakhouse, everything is ala carte-sides are extra. We had lyonnaise potatoes and they were tasty, hot, and salty. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful. So solid four starts-and the setting is worth five!

The Pro Shop is a small decent space and clean. The layout is neat and organized. The counter attendant was friendly and helpful. A small selection of attire and equipment for every size and category of golfer. Plenty of Picatinny Arsenal gear for your liking. Briefly talked to the Golf Pro and he appears to be knowledgeable and nice...unlike others who try to act like "Shooter McGavin"!!

Since they are government workers, you are not treated as a customer. They do not honor your tee times. If you check in early instead of using the practice area to warm up they will force you to head out immediately. I think that comes down from "on-high" because most of the workers in the shop are genuinely very good people. It is just not a customer comes first place. They know the government won't insist on quality performance. The course is in theory easy to maintain, it is pretty flat and easy to keep cut. However they have extremely high rough and no graduated rough. So a lot of fun is taken out of the experience, literally one inch off the fairway and your ball can be buried under thick, six inch rough. Most of the members are very unhappy about the maintenance of the rough and fairways. Most fairways are tight, thin, weak grass, there are very few places where there is that spongy fairway grass that private sector courses are required to provide. I will give credit to a drainage project undertaken about 3 years ago, it was extremely successful.

Warm and friendly staff, helpful anytime we needed them. Now the bad... and it's a lot. Many sand traps were marked "ground under repair"... full dirt and some rather large rocks. I'd say this is a short term thing but from reading other reviews it's been like this for a long time. Is it THAT HARD to bring in some truckloads of nice white sand, fix drainage issues, grab some shovels and make some distinct borders on the traps and upgrade the place ? Next are the fairways.. they all have HUNDREDS of poorly (or not at all) repaired divots... days, weeks or months worth of rounds.... come on, have some staff go out with carts and buckets of seed-filled soil and repair this nonsense ! I've seen better on $35 muni courses. Put buckets or containers of soil and seed on each cart !!! Many high end courses send out a team every night that starts on the first hole after the last group tees off and fills all the divots to preserve and recreate the fairways. Next let's talk about the signs directing the carts off the fairway to the paved paths.... I've never seen them so far away from the greens in my 30-plus years of avid golf.... on some holes you weren't allowed to drive within 100 yards of the green !!! That's ridiculous, especially given the huge divot problem affecting each and every fairway on the course. While we are on the topic of cart paths, there's some locations where there's a 30-40 foot walk up a grassy hill to get to the tee boxes... that's just wrong and easily corrected ! Lastly, there's no GPS on the carts. For a high daily fee course that positions itself as a deluxe resort course ($110 for the round) that's just cheap, pathetic and inexcusable. There's many $50 courses that have GPS on their carts. In summary the scenery and layout is nice, but it's worth $50 not $110. I don't know how the other courses on the property are, but I'm not sure I'm willing to throw this much money away again to try another. I don't mind paying big $$ for a top notch experience. Over the years I've played Doral ($250), Sawgrass ($600), Pinehurst #2 ($485) and many others, but this course seems to be just a money grab without the substance.

I normally go to a certain range not too far from this location but the Toptracer digital flight tracking machines had peaked my interest. While my main focus is on ball striking, I wanted to go the extra mile and utilize Toptracer to get an idea of distance gaping my woods/irons. THE EXPERIENCE Things may have changed from some previous reviews but the golf mats were perfectly fine. There weren't any glaring wear issues and I've definitely seen worse. The golf balls were fine and still had dimples left so no complaints on that end as well. The real interest and determining factor of my experience was TopTracer Technology. With the help of the digital flight tracking machines that were installed in every stall, I was able to get some raw data that helped me distance gap my clubs. Keep in mind that all the data is relative to the conditions (especially cold conditions) but I was able to get the answers I was looking for. Toptracer is able to tell you carry, total distance, launch angle, and other useful information to help optimize your clubs. I personally used the data to see how I hit my multiple drivers and find which one I hit best. It was mission accomplished. Of note, there is a small practice green with some chipping mats surrounding it. There are maybe two holes that you can use for putting and the rest are mostly for chipping targets. OTHER INFO -In addition to golf, they have pickleball courts/mini golf/paintball/turfed field and other offerings to keep you interested -The cost was marginally higher compared to your typical range but in my opinion worth it. The small bucket cost 12 dollars here compared to 10 dollars to a normal one without the digital flight tracking. FINAL THOUGHTS While Anchor Golf is a little farther from the driving range I used to use, it's well worth it for the experience to see your raw data. I would recommend giving this place a try!
