Perfect spot to start MAX juronies, your most likely to get a seat, unless on parade days, MAX is a pretty amazing transit use, And i use MAX a lot to get from sunset tc, to cicvic drive, (fun tip if you get off the MAX, go to the back car & try to race it before it enters the tunnel, its fun to race MAX trains. Just not at a crossing.) Its also useful to get back home, because I can just walk home by the tranist bridge, or take bus 20 2 stops down! Look I get it. The MAX isn't for everyone. It took me a long time to get comfortable riding and my husband, who is from England, made it very easy and very navigable for me. We could use the Millikan Way station, but it feels a lot farther lol. So we drive to sunset and home from there after. It's also covered parking with a HUGE garage which makes it easier in my opinion. If you want to get to Portland, without the hassle of traffic, get yourself the Transit app and roll on the Max!!! read more

I was happy when they punched though the west side light rail 20-something years ago. They were developing (destroying) the area like crazy back then and it was just a matter of time before the opportunity to get rail access right of way would be gone forever. Also happy that they put the Sunset T/C where they did which is very handy for me. Nice clean station and the trains run frequently enough where you don't have to wait long before one comes by even late at night or on a Sunday. Only major negative is the barely big enough to be called a parking garage parking garage. The genius who designed it designed it so that there was no ability to add additional stories to it in the future. To no one's surprise, it was filled to capacity early morning on the first day the station opened. Leave it to the government to screw up a wet dream. I see that they added but have not yet opened a tiny and I mean TINY zero story parking lot walking distance from the station. And this will be a pay to park lot. I'm guessing the parking structure will also become a pay for lot which, among other things, will mean that I won't be using my Hop pass much very soon. Most big cities use a bus loop to get riders to the transit system model. I guess the people at Trimet have no idea what that is. It's these little tooterville buses that cruise neighborhoods frequently so you don't have to walk very far to get on one. They take you to a T/C where the long distance travel happens. There is a 50 bus that goes right my my place but it only runs a couple of times a day and only on weekdays. If it ran even once an hour 7 days a week I'd never drive again. Sassys cab used to have a stand here but they faded away long ago. I suppose I could do Uber but that is not feasible for a commuter. Not that it matters to me but the ticket machines stopped taking cash a long time ago. This is not very friendly for out of towners. Trimet has been around for a long time but still has a lot to learn about running a public transportation system. There's also a homeless problem although it's a lot worse the closer you get to downtown. There's usually a Trimet employee walking around but I gather they have instructions not to disturb the homeless. Fine with me I guess so long as they aren't violent, dangerous, threatening or just nuts. read more

I came here a few times in 2019 because I needed to catch the 59 bus to get to a shopping area in Hillsboro. If you want a head start on the buses this is your station. This is one of two underground Trimet MAX stations. It is very modern and yet somewhat very busy. It doesn't matter which direction you are going once you get on the tram, you will get a quick start on your way to wherever you are going. This is a good starting point for those going to Moda Center or Gateway Transit Center. Warning: if you live in the area surrounding the station, please plan accordingly or take the bus because it can fill very properly. There is no way they are redoing this place. For 59 bus riders please note the bus is only available during rush hours. This station is very old and rarely patrolled by Tri Met PD so please be aware of your surroundings. read more

The Sunset Transit Center consists of two levels. On the upper street level you will find several bus connections, a park and ride garage, a bike storage facility and a small coffee shop. On the lower below ground level you will find the boarding area for the red and blue line MAX trains. The park and ride garage has become too small to meet the demand for spaces. Finding a space here is all about patience and timing, along with some luck. The coffee shop keeps very limited hours. They seem to be closed most of the time when I'm here. There are the usual shelter and seating areas for each bus that connects here. The MAX boarding area is completely covered and has numerous wooden benches. There are stairs and elevators connecting the two levels. Sunset is the last stop on the train before it arrives at Beaverton Transit Center. If you are on the red line and need to go past Beaverton TC, its best to get off here to catch the next blue line. It's usually less crowded here and you'll have more luck getting a seat on the train than if you board at Beaverton TC. read more

Easy to get to. Parking has always been available when I've showed up, although I'm rarely parking there on weekday mornings, so I can't speak to that. Clean and visually attractive facilities. Easy to drive in and pick people up. I really don't use the MAX that often and it seems like when I do there's often something wrong with it. Last time I was here I parked, paid for a ticket, sat on a broken train for 15 minutes, decided I couldn't wait any longer, went back to my car, and drove downtown. I dunno...I'm just not a huge fan. If you want to encourage use of public transportation make sure your trains work so people can actually utilize them. read more

Your first time on the MAX, going from Beaverton to Portland, can be pretty amazing. Here you are, rubbing shoulders with people from two very different cultures (Beaverton and Portland both have their own unique flavor, to be sure!) and meeting all kinds of people...then, before you know it... ...you're PLUNGED OVER 400 FEET UNDERGROUND!!! ...ok, so maybe it is a BIT more gradual than that, but it is still pretty cool! Then you emerge into the light and...whoosh! You're in Portland! Such a dramatic change of scenery, like night into day - maybe I'm easily impressed, but it's almost poetic in a way; two worlds living side-by-side, connected through the earth by a great roaring dragon! (Well, that's what it sounded like to me underground!) As my first-ever MAX experience, the Sunset Transit Center has a special place in my heart...so many people moving about, so many lives and stories, all so very different and wonderfully weird and unqiue...all quintessentially Portland! Man I love this city! read more

One of the best in the Trimet collection of transit centers. Why? Mainly because the MAX stops at Sunset are entirely covered by stylish awnings. You can always count on a dry wait for your train. Also, since I brought up "stylish", I have to mention that for what amounts to nothing much more than a couple of juxtaposed sets of train tracks, Sunset TC is quite architecturally attractive. I really like the iceblock elevator towers and the interesting wrought iron fencing. Nice design. Additionally, most of the folks you see at this station are serious business commuters. You rarely see panhandling hobos at Sunset TC. read more

All you really need to read is...DON'T EXPECT TO FIND A PARKING SPOT HERE AT OR AFTER 7 AM MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. To be safe I'd plan on getting there between 6:30 - 6:40 am. You may get to work a lot earlier than you need to, but I prefer that over having to go to a park and ride that's further out. Especially if I have plans after work. Until this year it seemed that I could get to the garage by 7:10 am and almost always get one of the last spots. For whatever reason that changed this year and I don't see any reason to think that it will get any better with population growth in the Portland Metropolitan area. I used to love this garage because of its convenient location right off highway 26. I live in Tigard and used to take WES from Tualatin to the Beaverton Transit Center, and then switch to a red or blue line MAX to downtown Portland. That was a good way to go as far as finding a parking space at the park and ride, and it was OK getting to work in the morning, but getting home in the evenings wasn't as much fun. Due to WES trains not running as frequently as MAX trains, there were many times where I'd get to the Beaverton Transit Center and have to run from the MAX platform to the WES platform, something I pretty much refuse to do (it's a personal choice/problem, I know. lol), or we'd arrive just in time to see WES leaving the platform. Not a big deal unless you've got to be somewhere that evening and/or if it's super cold out. Standing in the rain and wind was more often than not super dreadful. But anyhoo, since finding parking anytime after 6:40 am Monday through Thursday at Sunset isn't very reliable I end up going to the Beaverton Creek park and ride a lot of the time. There are plenty of spaces there and I've literally never seen that lot anywhere close to full. I'd say it adds about 15 - 20 minutes to the ride in, but definitely a better way to start the morning than getting to Sunset at 6:50 am and already seeing the max exodus of cars coming down from the top level because there aren't any spaces available. This station is conveniently located for going east or west. The parking garage usually has parking unless it is at 9 a.m during a weekday or during a sports event. If there isn't parking, just drive to the south side near Big Lots and the DMV on Park Way and then walk the sky bridge over to the MAX. Tip - The top of the parking garage is a great place to watch the sunset, albeit not the most romantic spot in town! read more

What. The. Hell. I can never find a place to park here. The first time I had to drive in circles for half an hour waiting for someone to get off the train and move their car. I moved here because I heard the public transit was great, but I can't rely on it AT ALL. And I have always seen other people doing the same thing, driving around like vultures. And I bet for every one of us driving around there are ten at home who have given up. Not everyone wants to take the bus to the train station! I want my car at the station when I get back home because I have things to do. The train has so many convenient stops; the zoo, the airport, the convention center. I would use the train to go somewhere every week, if only there was parking, but I have already given up. I want to comment about the rest of the station BUT I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO USE IT. read more

I pass through here on my way to and sometimes from work. There is a parking garage for those that park & ride but safety first and make sure valuables are out of sight (better that they aren't even in there). There is place in the parking garage where you can park your bike too. This is where I catch my transfer to work and on some mornings, if I have time to spare, I like to grab a mocha and a breakfast sandwich from the little coffee shop stand. It's located between both stairs. There is a also a pedestrian bridge that goes over Highway 26 so for those of you who walk and bike, you don't have to worry about dodging highway traffic to get to the transit. This is where most people going to watch a game at the MODA Center or Providence Park will catch their MAX ride into downtown. It's really a quick and easy way to get downtown without the hassle of traffic. read more

The parking lot really needs to be upgraded to accommodate the huge need for parking during work hours. On the weekends, I have never had an issue but on weekdays this is an exceptionally frustrating experience. However, the station itself is great. There are sufficient (3) ticket machines and the area is usually clean. The people there are also normal for the most part, which is unusual for a MAX station. The MAX is timely going into downtown because it has usually only made a few stops prior to Sunset TC. There is also a nice sky bridge to take you across the street, which is where I usually have someone pick me up if I don't park and ride. Compared to the majority of the MAX line, this is a great stop. I just think that there are some easy fixes that could and should be made here. read more

The park-and-ride garage here is far too small to accommodate demand; this is a major issue, as the parking garage fills up very quickly in the morning. My other gripe is the lack of public restrooms. Since there aren't any businesses here, you'd think there would be public restrooms -- but nope. If you have to pee while you're waiting for your MAX to arrive, you're out of luck. The only thing Sunset TC has going for it is that it's only two stops out from the city itself, and so there are a lot of local buses that connect here. read more

This is not my favorite transit center, and yet it's the largest of all the transit centers I've used, and it has the most amenities (three stories of parking, snack shop, MAX, and lots of buses). It's just so bleak, looking out over the Sunset, and it's all cement with no color or art. It's more like a fortress. I guess it doesn't help I've only ever used it during freezing or blistering hot weather. Like they say good things come in small packages, which is why I prefer the smaller transit centers and not behemoths like this. read more

i have traveled through this station many times and had no problem. on feb 16th i left my bag on a bench there , after boarding and departing i realized that i had forgotten my bag. i got off at the next stop and waited for the return train but my bag was gone. Important: Don't try to find a parking place between 8am and 3pm. Beyond that parking issue, this is good place to catch the MAX train. Clean, no offensive smells, and covered to keep you dry. Also has bicycle parking. And it goes UNDER THE WEST HILLS......COOL! read more

Ok, so maybe it's lame to review a train station on a line of public transportation, but this stop is good. First off, it's CLEAN. No bad odor or general dirty appearance. Totally clean. There are nice awnings to block sun/rain, elevators, and lots of parking(can't commit on parking availability during work hours as I only parked here during the weekend). There's also a coffeehouse and walkways from across the freeway(our hotel was across the way, so that was super convenient). read more
