I was told that in the car detailing world it would be rare to see a "10-out-of-10" car finish. Theoretically this would be a car that is so shiny you would not be able to accurately discern its color. It would simply be a mirror. Well I can tell you that in my opinion, the results of the 5 hours of James' work on my new Tesla Model 3 has nearly yielded just that - a mirror-like finish on my car so shiny that I cannot discern its color. He expertly performed paint correction and Opti-Coat on the surfaces that were not covered in XPEL (bumper, headlights, and mirrors). Tesla's factory description is midnight silver. But now, the impressive shine on my car now can also be described in various colors, from dark brown, black, to light blue or grey. James is a true artisan and master in his craft. I bought my mazda cx5 two years ago and paid the dealer $700 (ouch but I didn't know any better at the time) for a "sealant". My car looked great for about 4 months and then lost its luster. At the risk of sounding like all the other reviewers here...I have nothing but good things to say about James and Sunset Detailing. If you are looking for a quality detail for a new car or refreshing an older one in need of some TLC, James is definitely your guy. I bought a new Infiniti Q50 and needed someone to perform some paint correction to it and also apply opti-coat (which negates the need for ongoing polishing and waxing). James was easy to work with to get an appointment. He was on time, very knowledgeable (an important trait when dealing with a product like opticoat) and super friendly. We chatted about a variety of subjects while he worked. Since he is mobile, you can have him come to you so you aren't stranded for half the day (although he does need a covered area or garage to work in). The entire process took about 4 hours and the results speak for themselves (see the pictures I posted). I bought a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 7 days ago and knew that I wanted to get it ceramic coated. I was a little skeptical about not using a big shop since we our Jeep is brand new. I took advantage of the December special pricing and had Jamie come out to our house today to do paint correction and ceramic coating. I heard from many people that paint correction was important, but on a brand new car how important could it be. Jamie walked around the Jeep with a special light and showed me all the work he'd have to do to restore the paint which actually meant make better than factory, because that is what we had. He spent about 5 hours working on it and I can't believe how great it looks. We will see when we get it wet or when we get it dirty as to how good the ceramic works, but the Jeep looks incredible right now. I highly recommend. James is absolutely ridiculously knowledgeable when it comes to car care and detailing. The man is a walking encyclopedia! I was referred to James by a friend when I was looking for a sealant for my clear coat and was told to check out this product called Opticoat and told me to give James a call. I had also put micro scratches in the clear coat when I foolishly ran the car through an automatic car wash. He's very easy to work with, definitely very flexible with his and your schedule, extremely thorough with his work and the level of detail he puts into each job is remarkable. James did an awesome job installing Opti-Coat (or Opti Gloss-Coat is its called now) on my '14 Tesla P85. James came over on a Sunday to do the work and explained everything in detail and we had a good conversation about cars and detailing.. he definitely is into what he does and takes pride in the quality of work that he performs. James took his time and went over the entire car and buffed/polished paint imperfections and even used a flashlight on areas of the car to inspect for any imperfections he may have missed. So I had recently had my S5 opti-coated by James, but before I go into to the review and the quality of the work a few things should be noted so you don't get caught off guard. 1. The Opti-coat package does not include a full exterior/interior cleaning. Instead it includes a full cleaning and detail of just the body on the exterior of the car plus the Opti-Coat. Small detail, but might upset some if they aren't aware of it. 2. Because of that the price is actually less than what is stated on the website so it makes up for it. Anyways, I wish it were a bit more clear up front, but regardless the work that was done was SUPERB! James is definitely skilled with the buffer. The work done in regards to the paint correction was amazing, a lot of the light scratches and swirls were either removed or lightened significantly. The car shines beautifully in the sunlight. I didn't think I could fall in love with my car twice. The opti-coat adds a deep shine to the color on the car as well On top of that he is a good guy, easy to talk to and definitely passionate about what he does and the cars he drives. I don't usually write reviews but when I do it's definitely for a good reason. I've always been very meticulous about my car when it comes to keeping it clean and with having a bad experience once a few years ago with another detailing company, I have yet to allow others to detail my car. Also I really wasn't impressed with the outcome of other detailing companies who did work on my friends vehicles which is why I chose to continue to detail my own car until now. I'm a big car enthusiast that goes to car shows and meets on a constant basis and that's how I met Jamie who told me about his business, showed me before and after pictures and explained what he can do for my ride to make her look like new again. At first I was a little hesitant but I decided to give it another shot and let someone else besides myself detail my ride. When I say that my ride looked better than "like new" once he was finished with it, I really mean it looked BETTER than "like new." The paint on my car looked amazing!!! It looked like glass with a deep wet look as if I could reach into my own reflection. I can't count the number of people who have complimented and asked me if I received a new paint job. I chose to go with the Sunset Correction service they offer due to the fact that my paint was severely swirled and had some blemishes that I just couldn't remove by hand. Some may feel that that service may be a little on the pricey side compared to what other detailing companies have to offer but I have yet to see the results I received from Sunset detailing compared to other companies that have done a few cars from people that I know. It is made clear on the website that the Sunset Correction service takes several hours to complete, which it did, so I definitely would recommend anyone getting this service to plan ahead. Though it did take almost an entire day to complete, the results were beyond expectation. Not to mention, Jamie was the detailer who detailed my car and his professionalism was beyond satisfactory as well. It was definitely worth the money and time!!! I couldn't be happier with my FR-S! About 7 months ago, I purchased a black FR-S. When I got my car, I didn't really think about putting any protectant on the paint. That was a mistake that I soon would regret as the clear coat started to wear. On Dec. 24th my car was totaled. Luckily, I wasn't injured and I could start looking for another. Two days ago I purchased my 2nd FR-S; this one was silver. I didn't even have to think about it. I got on the phone and called James from the dealership to schedule an opti-coat. He set up the appointment and he showed up right on time. He is one of the nicest guys that you can meet, but I don't have to tell you that; all you have to do is call him. The process for opti-coating took around 3 hours, but that time flew by as I was talking to him. You can pretty much talk about anything and have a great conversation. As for his work, it is absolutely amazing! He really takes detailing seriously and treats the car with the respect that it deserves. If you take it to a dealership, you won't get this experience. All they care about is getting a paycheck and getting the car done. James treated my car as if it were his own and I couldn't thank him enough for that. I recently hired James at Sunset Detailing for paint correction and opti-coat application for my black 2013 Lexus GS350 F-Sport. I could not be happier with the results. Thanks to all the prior reviewers on this site for their recommendations. I've had my car since it first came out in February 2012, so it's well over 2 years old and has been subjected to the usual road hazards associated with a car having 25,000 miles. On top of that, this car is notorious for having "soft" paint that's extremely difficult to maintain. I was actually considering selling it - and never buying a black car again - until I heard about opti-coat protection. All I can say is that James is a true artist when it comes to paint correction. This is without a doubt the most important part of the process and the reason why I would not even consider doing the job myself. Remember, any imperfections in the paint will basically be sealed-in forever under the opti-coat layer. This is why it's vitally important to make sure the paint correction is done properly. I watched as James worked on my car for hours, trying one technique after the another, in order to determine the best combination of materials and methods that corrected the paint on my car to the best extent possible. I learned that every car behaves differently and that the process of paint correction not only takes a lot of talent, but a lot of time and patience. Needless to say, I knew that my car was in good hands as I watched him work and began to see the paint looking progressively better and better. I was truly blown away by the final results. I've had the opportunity to wash my car on a few occasions since I had this done and it's quite clear that it's so much easier to maintain. I no longer have to worry about swirl marks and the "hologram effect" that I've been plagued with since I owned this car. All it takes now is a quick wash and dry with a no-rinse formula and my car shines like a mirror, even in bright sunlight, and looks better than it has in the past after it was professionally waxed and buffed. My only regret is that I waited too long and I wish I knew about this procedure when my car was new. At least I can feel good that my car is protected from now on. But the best part is the ease of maintenance and the fact that it never has to be waxed again. I found out about Opti-Coat from the car forum and decided to use it as a result of the positive comments. I never actually met James since I was away at work when he drove up to LA to service my car, but he was very professional throughout the whole process. From the first time I called, to making arrangements with someone else giving him access to work on the car, to him calling me to let me know that everything was done and finally emailing me a couple of weeks later on how to continue maintaining the car. The car was only a week old when he did the work and it definitely looked better than how I got it from the dealer. During some recent rain I could see there was a noticeable difference in how the rain beaded on my car compared to other cars. Now only time will be the true test on how long Opti-Coat lasts, but for now it was a worthwhile investment and my black car is a shiny black car. I definitely would recommend James if you are considering getting this done. He did an excellent job with my car. I had my new car for about a month before I found out about opti-coat. Which is a permanent kind of clear coat. Once on, I will never have to wax my car. It'll look showroom new. As I was checking out a forum for enthusiasts for my type of car I stumbled upon Sunset Detailing OC. They offered opti-coat as an additional service to their paint correction service. In order for opti-coat to be effective, paint correction has to be done. What that does is get rid of and scratches or swirl marks on the paint. That is the signature service that they offer. I emailed them and shortly got a reply from Jamie. We set up an appointment and he came down yesterday from OC to Chula Vista. Since my car is new he set about correcting the paint from the problems the dealership did. What he told me is that the dealership just "details" the car in a really mediocre way. Not using the quality products that professional detailers use. He found swirl marks and some scratches and got rid of them. He then applied the opti-coat. This whole procedure took the better part of the day and he wasn't done until almost dusk. It looked really good last night but today.....holy cow!!! My car looks like it came right off the showroom floor!!! It's so shiny!!! There is one scratch on the hood that Jamie tried to fix but it was really deep so he did the best he could. You can't even tell it's there unless you're at a certain angle which no one ever is. I wouldn't have known about it until he pointed it out. Not only is he a professional, he is a really good guy, very friendly and nice. He took some breaks and he and I chatted about a whole myriad of subjects. I could honestly say that I met a new friend. Another bonus to the whole experience. If you want your car looking showroom new get opti-coat and have Sunset Detailing OC do it.
