Come to Sunset if you want to be surrounded by imperfect people striving to become more Christ-like. We're all sinners and carry our share of baggage, so do not feel intimidated to worship God with us! :D Sunset is not the most welcoming church to attend, but they're making the effort. There are 200 people in each service, so it is very easy to walk in and out without anyone noticing you (I know because I've done it for 5 years). Do not be afraid to approach Joey, Clark, Jeannette, Lucy or myself to help get you plugged in. They've gone through 4 pastors since I've been there. A lot of changes are happening for the better since Joey has become the English Lead Pastor. He's really pushing everyone to attend small groups to practice real life, real love, and real family in a community setting. Their doctrine is very sound, and they will remove anyone from leadership who practices differently. Joey puts a lot of emphasis on the bible such that his words are only opinions unless it can be backed up by the bible, and a sermon is not over yet until it points back to the gospel. Sunset has a lot of ministries for all age groups. They include children's, youth, college/young adult, men's, women's, prayer, worship, special needs, and various sports ministries. You may have to put yourself out there, but you'll get as much as you put in. I hope to see you around!

I've been coming here for a few years for my spiritual needs. People are super warm, friendly and caring. It is a rather big (more than 1000 with both English and Cantonese services) church to get lost in so the trick is to join one of the fellowships and cell groups. Great youths and young adult groups, not to mention community and neighborhood events. Pastor Joey is cool, and causal. His sermons are like talking directly to me each time. Pastor Water is also cool, warm and funny. He also speaks directly with me in his sermons. There are many Elders that run the church with their powerful visions: Real Life, Real Love and Real Family and the 5Ms missions. English Services: 8:30 and 11:30 AM Cantonese Services: 10 and 11:30 AM Current Sermon Series (June 1 -July 13): Biblical Leadership.

Beautiful church, they have a gift shop, very welcoming. Not sure if they have a parking lot but there isn't any street parking out front. Perfect while you're in the area or on vacation. I attended the Sunday afternoon Mass at 5:15pm, glad there is a later option in the day to attend.

I don't care what your Eucharistic protocol is, you never put your hands on another person without their consent. No Eucharistic minister has ever shown me that level of disrespect in my life and I'm petty enough to call it out. That minister was incredibly fortunate we were in a church during Mass because had that happened anywhere else, I would've dropped them without hesitation. Make that idiot do penance. If it narrows it down, it was a fat woman. So figure out who it was from there. Imbecile.

After praying about whether to say anything, I felt nudged to add my experience because the earlier…read morereview described a pattern I initially doubted but later recognized for myself. Don't waste your time... If you want genuine Christian community, there are better churches in San Francisco. I initially doubted the detailed review from the longtime attendee who described more than twelve years at Reality SF. She wrote about trying to raise serious concerns, encountering silence and defensiveness, struggling to reach senior leadership, and finally leaving a direct conversation with the head pastor feeling more dismissed than understood. At first, I assumed this might have been one unusually difficult relationship. I no longer think that. I have been a Christian for almost my entire life. I am only new to Reality SF, but what I encountered made the pattern described in that review entirely believable. The same contrast is visible: a church that speaks fluently about compassion, justice, belonging, and community, yet makes direct pastoral access remarkably difficult when someone brings a real concern. You do not have to trust either review. Check for yourself. Attend several services, then try to move beyond the polished Sunday presentation. Ask how to speak with a pastor about something serious. See whether you receive a clear path to an actual person or are redirected through programs, forms, and generic responses. If you raise a concern, watch whether leadership addresses the substance or reframes the issue as your expectations, perception, attitude, or failure to understand the church. That is the same institutional pattern the earlier reviewer described: the concern remains unanswered while the person raising it is made to feel like the problem. Look at who consistently occupies the room, not just who appears in carefully selected photographs. Ask attendees how many genuine relationships they formed, whether anyone noticed when they stopped attending, and what happened when they needed pastoral care rather than another sermon. The building is impressive. The services are polished. The room is full. Those facts are easy to verify. What is much harder to find is an equally visible path to accessible leadership, personal care, and genuine community. That is why the earlier review matters. It does not read like an isolated complaint once newer attendees begin encountering the same structure from a completely different starting point. Try to move from audience member to known person. If the path remains unclear and your concerns are turned back on you, leave before you waste months believing the problem is you. A full room proves that people attended. It does not prove that anyone was shepherded. This review is not an invitation for leadership to contact me, manage the complaint, or attempt to repair the church's image privately. I am not seeking a conversation or resolution. This is not a misunderstanding that can be fixed through another carefully managed exchange. Please respect that boundary.

Cornerstone is a one of a kind church. The messages always seem to hold a very relevant lesson…read moreregardless of who is speaking. The seating can be a little cramped, it's in an older building, but it's still comfy. A big highlight of this church is it's performances (Spring musical, Christmas Eve candlelight, the comedy improv night etc.). Worth a sunday visit and staying around after and before service. The java is killer. Bagels, toast, donuts, and really delicious coffee. And if you're not into that type of food then there's plenty of local restaurants as well. This is a great spot to go to for very lively worship on sunday mornings. Saturday nights are excellent too! Just check it out, the pastoral staff is very wholesome and welcoming.

During my time there, I trusted members with personal information. Over time, I came to believe that this information was discussed behind my back in ways that felt disrespectful and damaging. Instead of direct communication, there seemed to be judgment and private conversations about me, including my financial situation, which felt intrusive and shaming rather than supportive. What concerned me most, however, were statements and situations that felt threatening and deeply unsettling. There were comments about taking control over people's lives and even statements that came across as threats involving my family. At one point, I experienced a situation where a vehicle came near my home and I genuinely feared for my grandfather's safety based on what had been said to me. Whether others interpret that differently or not, it created a real sense of fear and crossed a line that no church should ever approach. This environment felt driven by fear, control, and intimidation rather than care, humility, and truth. I'm sharing this not out of spite, but out of concern for others. A healthy church should build people up, respect boundaries, and communicate directly--not operate in ways that make people feel unsafe or targeted. Please use discernment if you are considering getting involved here.
