Wow this is a really nice cathedral. Seriously there are soo many locals living here their whole lives Having been around it, passing by everyday, and never have gone in before. I finally checked it out when I attended a candlelight Pokemon concert. What a treat. fascinating design and beautiful lights. Spacious and big. There's so much space inside to hold Lots of people! Came for the Aura light show--and wow, it did not disappoint The visuals were incredible, and the sound was absolutely booming in the best way. Everything synced perfectly and made for an amazing experience. Only downside... I'm gonna need to know who to send my chiropractor bill to because my neck is DONE from looking up the whole time All jokes aside, it was a great show and definitely worth checking out! read more

As you walked inside the cathedral, there is a feeling of peace, solitude and calm. A place for self reflection and a time for quietness. The architecture is grandeur. I took my time studying the art, sculptures, and the meaning behind it. There is an entrance fee. However, to sit down on the pews there is no admission. read more

This is a spectacular landmark in SF, featuring amazing architecture and ornate details throughout that are simply mesmerizing. It's so much more than a church, and has a history worth learning about. I've only been here once, for Aura, an interesting light and sound show which I experienced this past weekend. But my bf has done musical performances here in the past, so he's no stranger to all of the beauty this place has to offer. I was awestruck by the interior of this cathedral. It was breathtaking, stained glass art, a majestic organ, stone labyrinth as an element of reflection, Saint Francis sculpture, even Jacob's ladder (the illuminated art piece more accurately called "Jacob's Dream: A Luminous Path"). The Grace Cathedral is certainly a unique and beautiful venue and event space, and of course, one of the loveliest churches I've ever encountered. The parking situation during events is not the easiest, but we took uber so we didn't have to deal with that. read more

Even though I've been visiting the Cathedral for decades, I decided to take the behind the scenes tour with Caroline. She was great! Even though she loved here several years ago, she knew so much about the Cathedral, she could've been an employee for years! Particularly interesting were the bishop's quarters, the two Aeolian Skinner organs in the nave and in the Chapel of Grace. The views from above the nave were especially terrific as well as the view of San Francisco from the South Tower. read more

I attended the Aura light show at this Cathedral. Since this show is from Montreal and travels around the world, I find it amusing that they threw bits and pieces of SF landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge into the story of humanity. The story was kind of difficult to follow so just sit back and enjoy. This presented Grace Cathedral an opportunity to showcase and promote itself. The Cathedral offers many services and is always open to the public. I especially like the doors - Gates of Paradise. I have been going to the Cathedral since I was a youngster. As I saw the show, it reminded me so much of Mogowan Mirror Maze at Pier 39. Most scenes were so alike - laser lights and projections. I gave this 3 stars because people were taking pictures and videos with their flash on. It's like going to a movie with phone screens flashing around. Also, the show was flat (all on the same level) - no crescendos, highlights nor anything. It just abruptly ended. read more

This is a beautiful venue for orchestra and concerts. I attended a Six Station Trio and was in love with the location that's taken places. This is definitely one of the more beautiful venue I have been. I LOVE the stained glass windows as the light shines in. There is also technical light system as the music plays and changes color depending on the mood. It creates a different atmosphere as musicians perform. I was in awe the whole two hours enjoying both the interior of the cathedral and the performance. read more

Grace Cathedral -- Laser Light Show Experience We attended the 9:30 PM laser light show and it was a truly unique and memorable experience. The cathedral itself is stunning, and the lighting effects against the soaring architecture and stained glass created a beautiful, almost otherworldly atmosphere. We walked to the cathedral, but noticed there is parking nearby and the area seemed easy to access. The staff and volunteers were welcoming and well organized. As we entered, the scent of frankincense filled the space -- used as part of the show -- adding an immersive, ceremonial feeling that complemented the visuals and music beautifully. The show was entertaining, peaceful, and visually captivating. Watching the light projections move across the vaulted ceilings and stone interior made the entire space feel alive. If you're looking for something different in San Francisco -- artistic, calming, and visually impressive -- this is absolutely worth experiencing. read more

Per the attached pictures, you think you're getting one thing but you're actually getting another. I attended the sound bath event. That was fine.. I liked the vibe, music, and the experience. The venue is a problem. As nice as the cathedral is, and as fun as the acoustics are, I have a big issue with the ticketing scheme. The $30 tickets get you pew seats. You sit in a pew, and during the performance you can stare ahead at musicians and the altar area and the beautiful stained glass windows. The lying down tickets.. and the Premier Lying Down tickets at $80, are burdened by the LED ceiling lights that are bright and piercing. You lay on the ground and your eyeballs are burned by the blue lights. And through your eyelids when your eyes are closed. It's not relaxing. They surely know this. They still charge more than 2X for the pleasure. On their site, they recommend bringing a yoga mat and blanket, they don't mention the need for sleeping masks or eye coverings. Others in the lying down area started departing almost immediately when the show started. Some turned on their stomach or sides. I personally think it's problematic that they don't address the bright lights directly, before people upsell themselves for the "Premier" experience. read more

Went to watch Aura show during Valentine day 2026. There is a small parking garage but we just Uber everywhere in the City. There's NO food or water inside. There is a restroom but you have to go downstairs or take the elevator. Everyone was very nice. The show didn't start on time which was nice because traffic on a 3 day weekend and Valentine's Day was terrible and I accounted for at least an hour to get everywhere. It started about 10 minutes after (thank god). Our tickets we upgrade and there was reserved seats. But every sit inside was nice because your literally looking up the entire time. Nice thing to do on Valentine day. Just posted a few pictures and videos read more

I luv visiting historic churches in California and abroad. I'm glad I made the time to visit Grace Cathedral. The architecture is beyond AMAZING. It reminds me of the churches in Europe. The space is vast and the ceilings are exceedingly high! I'm always fascinated by stained glass, these were no exception. The church door details are extraordinary. This was one of the several cathedrals I visited while in Ireland. I would recommend adding this to your itinerary.

We went to the Aura show at the Grace Cathedral and it was spectacular! The Cathedral itself is awe inspiring and just so grand. It famously sits atop a hill and we arrived just as the sun was setting which created the most beautiful scene. The light show inside the cathedral was truly amazing and my friend and I both were blown away. I recommend visiting the cathedral and the Aura show if you get the chance! read more

We are visitors to the area. Saw the beautiful church on a tour and decided to make a special trip to visit. When we arrived we saw an open door and went in, following signs to the sanctuary. When we got there the person sitting at the host's desk was very curt and unfriendly. He said the church wouldn't open for another ten minutes (we didn't know this). Asked us (again, very tersely) how we got in the building. We told him to which he replied that was only for workers (no sign indicating that and we had no idea). He said he would open the doors in about ten minutes and we could wait outside. Quickly decided this was not a place we felt welcome at. We would have been more than happy to wait until they opened, but this man's rude demeanor was vey offputting so we decided we would move on. Interesting that outside there were several banners exclaiming everyone was welcome! Beautiful church on the outside. Thinking their inside welcoming committee needs some work. read more

I'm sorry to say however I did not enjoy the sound bath. I've been to several five star sound baths in North Carolina where I live and this didn't come close. You might as well stay home, lie down and play a new age CD because their "performance" is nothing short of distracting. You can barely make out the sound bowls over the whale sounds and strange singing which is all booming over the loudspeakers. The sound bowl player looked like he was barely doing anything. Thusly you can't decipher if it's all simply an album playing. I'm very disappointed and pissed I spent $88 for my mother and I to try this whilst we had to lug all our yoga mats etc. across town! I cannot imagine spending $88 each for the "privilege" of lying inside the labyrinth. read more

I was here to witness the Pride mass, & what a show! I guess that's not a proper definition of a religious service, but I'm not Christian or religious so I had no idea what was going on. It didn't matter tonight, we were treated to a procession of dancers, Sister of Perpetual Indulgence, men in leather, men in rainbow skirts, yeah, the men were stepping out. Gotta say, it was a shiny evening of happiness, great gospel music by Glide chorus, including a guest sermon by Marvin K. White, the Minister of Celebration at Gilde Memorial Church. It was a great experience to be around so many happy, colorful people celebrating diversity & inclusion in the church. Times are changing for the better here, take that Florida. The festivities, er, mass ended In confetti & rainbow cake. read more

I have often walked by this Cathedral and admired its beauty but never went inside. I got the chance to walk in in June because I got tickets to an opera show that took place there. The acoustics were really good there as well, I hope others   really appreciated the church putting a rainbow on its steps and walls in June, it felt really heartwarming. read more

If you want in depth about the stained glass then this is not the tour but if you want an over view and access to places not included in other tours then this is perfect. Our guide was awesome and made sure we could all hear him. My only tip is don't wear shoes that make a clacking sound because it'll echo and you don't want that in your recordings either. read more

Grace Cathedral in San Francisco is beautiful and well taken care of! Who needs to go to Europe to experience a breathtaking church when you can come here and in the Bay Area. Painstakingly built over the course of 37 years after the 1906 earthquake and fire, the Neo-Gothic cathedral is not only a beautiful tourist landmark and cultural event site, but is also cherished as a working cathedral known for its inclusivity. It is very reminiscent of the famed churches it was designed to mimic like Notre Dame in Paris. We paid $14 for adults and $12 for seniors on a Saturday afternoon. You can light candles and learn more about the church through their iPad kiosks. I enjoyed myself so much I want to come back and experience their Yoga on the Labyrinth and sound bath events. I am intrigued and know it will be a spiritual event. Will also return on a Sunday for service and to experience this magical church again. I left feeling light and grateful for God's grace. If you're a child of God, you'll enjoy praying here like I did! read more

Grace Cathedral hosts a free organ recital series, once a month on Sundays from 4pm-5pm. The organists are excellent and the organ itself is exceptional. Hearing an organ in person in a space like Grace Cathedral is a completely different experience than listening to a recording. You feel the music surround you, fill you and move through you, in a way that cannot be replicated. We are so indebted to Christopher Keady, the assistant director of music at Grace Cathedral, who organizes these concerts and occasionally performs as well. The caliber of organists that he is able to attract is simple incredible. We particularly enjoyed the performance by Weicheng Zhao in January of this year, which was co-sponsored by the San Francisco Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. This is truly one of the very special experiences in San Francisco and I would highly recommend that you try it at least once. A schedule of upcoming performances is available here: https://gracecathedral.org/series/organ-recital-series/ Past performances and livestreams can be viewed on the Grace Cathedral YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNbrZVxLFng read more

Beautiful church. Used to come by more often when I lived nearby. Their Christmas mass is absolutely --mesmerizing. I really wanted to share the beautiful experience and make new memories with my little one this year, so I brought him along with us to take a few photos outside the church. We also walked the outside labyrinth together. More of me leading him than he walking the path, but that's neither here nor there. As we walked slowly, he's rushing through everything, and yanking me to come along, faster mommy, walk faster! This is per usual, as with all youths, who think they know everything, and rushing to be "adults ". SLOW DOWN little one-- I want him to explore and have fun. All four paws of him. read more

So we actually came here for a concert by *The Sixth Station Trio* . First of all The architecture of the cathedral was amazing. The doors stood tall with the metalwork designs on them. Walls beautifully painted with stories, and the ceiling majestically looking over all who come within its doors. Grace Cathedral is definitely a location you should come visit or even join in on a sernum. There is parking for the cathedral right beside it in a garage. The good thing is that it closes till 12pm but just an fyi they do charge $50. There is plenty to see within the walls of the cathedral or plenty of sites to see within the streets of the elegant NOb Hill area. read more

Came with visiting relatives from out of town. We walked in, around and out of the Interfaith Memorial Labyrinth next to the cathedral, letting go of inner turmoil and busy thoughts to find inner peace. We were going to quickly check out the inside of the cathedral like we've done in the past, but was surprised we had to pay at a ticket booth which wasn't there before. A guard limited us to within a railing where I was able to snap a few pics of the interior of Gothic ceilings and windows. We didn't have time to go inside anyway. Grace Cathedral is one of the most inclusive and welcoming churches I've ever attended. I first visited in the '90s during road trips to SF, and it has been a favorite ever since. Perched atop Nob Hill, the cathedral is stunning, and the services are deeply moving, rich in ritual and sacredness. The sermons are powerful, thoughtful, and always leave an impact. The staff is consistently friendly and kind. I highly recommend this beautiful cathedral; they even offer live streams for when you can't attend in person. Thank you, Grace Cathedral! read more

Went to my first sound bath at Grace last night and what an experience! The cathedral was set up nicely with candles and lovely lighting. The live music was beautiful and interesting. There was a reading/poem at the beginning and end of the bath and the moderator mentioned that they were expecting 400 people. They suggest you bring a mat, blanket and pillow but my old bones needed a bit more as the floor was super hard on my back and I had trouble focusing and relaxing fully. Next time I'll bring a thicker mat and some props or choose to sit rather than lie down. read more

You will need proof of vaccination to enter: you gotta play to pray. I came here for teachings of goodwill, the promotion of ethics and good morals, for the message of forgiveness and the inner strength and courage to do the right thing through God. Ok, fine, I came to see the labyrinths, rainbow colored steps, stained glass windows, and door, a replca of Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise. Jesus Christ, you got me! Before being lost to the earthquake, the original church was founded during the Gold Rush, upgraded into larger buildings until it's modern venue in 1868, where the "Cathedral" was the church to half of the Big 4 (Stanford and Crocker, but oddly not Huntington who lived across the street). Notable clergy members directing the parish included Hannibal Goodwin (who invented roll film) and George Bush's great-great-grandfather (who invented the New World Order), It wasn't until 1934 that they could afford the 30 years of construction to build back up from the rubble on a site donated by Crocker. Original plans for the goth design called for heavy eyeliner and Bauhaus T-shirts. To celebrate the consecration, notable dreamer Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a sermon during Lent. I hope it wasn't extra security that he gave up for Lent. It was the largest gathering until the 9/11 memorial service. Overall, Grace Cathedral is 329 ft long, 162 ft wide, with a spire 247 ft high. 329, 162, 247? Only if she's five-three. I went for the artistry, which is why it's popular among walking tours. There's multiple murals. The famous "Ghiberti doors" (aka Gates of Paradise), which are reproductions of the Florence Baptistery, hidden from Nazis and copied in latex casts intended for a war memorial. And the pretty stained-glass windows featuring people from Adam & Eve to John Glenn, Thurgood Marshall, Albert Einstein and Robert "Stay gold, Ponyboy" Frost, but, alas, no Waldo. read more
