If you are gluten intolerant then you surely know this place, but if you're vegan then it is a shopping haven too. Stocks heaps of vegan products (eg. Roasts, burgers, sausages, slices) and has a large selection of organic produce. If you want liquid aminos instead of soy, they stick three different brands, if you want textured soy to replace your mince meat, you can choose from four styles. As per all speciality shops they are pricey but hey that's what you get if you want to live longer. Vegan lip balm? No issues. Vegan chocolate snack? Of course. Gluten free is also a speciality with breads, pastas, sauces, frozen meals... The list goes on. My favourite haunt for stocking supplies. read more

Sunnybrook was smaller than I expected. I think it's because when I am told about a gluten-free and health food supermarket, I automatically imagine something the size of Costco. So let's not quibble over size. It has a spectacular range of gluten-free, and other allergy and intolerance friendly foods. The kind of spectacular where one is overwhelmed for choice and sometimes have to go and have a sit down with a cup of tea and a biscuit (that you ask someone else to select for you). To top it off, there are naturopaths, a naturopathic dispensary, understanding staff and frequent promotional tastetestings on offer to help you find something to pacify your disagreeable digestion system. I can't really recommend a product, I would just say go with a full bank account and an empty freezer and come back with the reverse. Having bread that tastes like bread might be a simple pleasure, but it's one not often experienced by coeliacs and should be indulged in should the opportunity arise. At Sunnybrook, that opportunity doesn't so much arise, as leap up and hit you in the face. read more

I went to this shop recently to exchange a product (which I bought recently) that was expired. There was a lady at the counter who was not helpful in resolving the matter. She kept on arguing and when she realised she was wrong she responded very rudely. I find that customer service is zero at this store, they need to know how to treat their customers !! read more

Such unhelpful rude staff - my first visit and I won't be going back even though I'm a local. What's happened to customer service and just general kindness and interest in people's well being. She needed to go home and not come back. read more

Terrible customer service. The boss arranged to order in a product, but then he decided to go against his word and not to order it in. He said he made a mistake and was very rude about it. So much for customers being put first, especially after a promise was made! Never will shop there again and don't recommend others to either if that is the way he treats customers. Thanks. read more

History
Established in 1997.
Established as a traditional Health Store in 1997, Sunnybrook Health Store & Healing Centre soon recognized the need to support those on Gluten Free, and other intolerant or allergenic, diets. Beginning as a small shop in Glenhuntly, Melbourne, Sunnybrook expanded in order to offer you as large a range of specialist grocery items to customers as possible. We are now located in Ormond.
Meet the Business Owner: Geoff M.
Established as a traditional, family-run Health Store in 1997, owner Geoff McCormack saw there was a growing need in the community for gluten-free and other allergy-friendly products. Growing up with an egg allergy gave him the passion to source good-quality alternatives for people with intolerances to wheat, dairy, soy, egg, nuts (the list goes on!), in a time when there weren't many options available. " As Coeliac disease, gluten intolerance and other food allergies became increasingly prevalent, I wanted to establish a space where people could come and shop without having to feel like they were missing out. I also wanted to foster an environment where people could come and seek advice they could trust from holistic healthcare practitioners - naturopaths, nutritionists & homoeopaths - just to name a few." A friend told me about this place so I checked it out on the weekend. Good health store, pretty much got everything you need, prices are comparable to other health stores. Especially happy to see the huge range of vegan stuff, they have Daiya cheese and Gardein products. Pretty much anything you can imagine but vegan. Nice staff, I'll be back to stock-up next time. read more
