I was running errands in the area and wanted a quick - really quick - bite to eat. I thought this…read moreupscale convenience store might be a good option. I'd stopped in once for beer and knew it was pricey, but locally owned convenience stores are typically pricey. And I know the rent here must be hefty, so... I get it. It's a nice little store - well stocked with impressive variety. Mind you, they don't have much in the way of meals to-go, but that wasn't too surprising. I think they're catering to locals by having an excellent wine selection, a respectable beer selection, and a good to very good selection of general food groceries. The store was very clean. After deciding that a pre-packaged, mass-produced sandwich sounded awful, I pieced together a fun on-the-road meal of crackers and cheese. They had 5 varieties of Triscuits, which was a pleasant surprise, and I settled on the smoked gouda. Good choice - rich, flavorful, salty. Instead of a block of cheese, I bought two cheese sticks (I know, I know) to eat with my Triscuits. It actually made for a yummy and healthy on-the-fly meal. The lady running the store had the air of being the owner, but I'm not sure. She was on the phone the whole time, speaking what turned out to be German. She did pause long enough to talk to me when I was ready to check out, but she didn't acknowledge me otherwise the entire time I was there. And I was there longer than planned since Yelp was in serious need of some pics of this place... So minus one star for lack of customer service. When you pay a notable premium for a locally owned, high-end food mart like this, it'd be nice to be acknowledged. $5 for the Triscuits and cheese sticks were $1 each. $7 for a very quick, healthy meal with delicious Triscuits left over. Pricey? Very. But that wasn't surprising. A well-stocked mini-grocery store in a high-rent area of town is there for convenience, and you pay for convenience. Period. But at least it comes with selection and covers a lot of bases in a small space.

I did not appreciate the customer service and will not return ever again and I will share my experience in social media for people to be aware. My advise is for the owners to make sure their employees act professionally to avoid costing them money.

And while the other one is great and fabulous, this one is one star better. A huge selection of baked goods, coffee, decor, clothing, drinks and more. The Kissing Pig Cafe has so many food options, too! Mrs. K. has not had a kolache in years and she's now pescatarian which presents certain challenges. It would be awesome if they had some kolaches with just cheese or were sweet, so while I had one with ham and cheese and one with sausage in cheese, she was at least able to enjoy a strawberry and cream danish as well as the always awesome poppyseed kolache. It's possible that a pecan square was purchased for later consumption, too. The self-serve coffee was great and we enjoyed all of this inside at a comfortable table. And after that, more shopping. So much great stuff to choose from here and very, very clean restrooms. If you're overwhelmed by that massive baked goods counter, just ask for recommendations. They'll get you sorted for sure! Excellent selection of kolaches and klobasneky. You can also buy sandwiches. Minus: as on previous visits, I have found that they are often out of poppyseed and prune kolaches. Not the servers' fault but you would think management would be keen to bake more of what sells most. Then there are the sandwiches. If you want pork, you'll get value. But if you want brisket, look out! I've never seen a more miserly portion offered for 13 dollars. I understand that brisket is expensive now. But I still get it at various restaurants and have to say that it was a five dollar sandwich for thirteen bucks. Additionally, the sandwich maker apparently does not know what and order for "moist" brisket means. Mine proved rather dry.

They've even expanded beyond Texas to places like Tennessee and Northern Virginia. Everything is kept clean, especially the bathrooms. This particular location is on the smaller side, so I can't even imagine how huge the larger locations are. There's a wide variety of souvenirs from apparel and home goods to even pet items. Towards the back, you'll find a deli, a wall of specialty beef jerky, tons of snacks, plus brisket sandwiches and desserts, including fudge. We ended up spending a good amount of time here before getting back on the road. You can sample the jerky. I really liked the Honey Jalapeño and Maple Cherry (on the sweeter side). And don't leave without grabbing the beaver nuggets!

If you're driving on a Texas highway and see a Buc-ee's sign, exit - even if you don't need gas. My Overall Rating - 4 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Facility, Return) Atmosphere - Buc-ee's is big, busy, and always crowded. If you're an introvert, I recommend you stay in the car. Walking into a Buc-ees is like walking into a Walmart. Same lighting, same item you can buy, and tons of people. 1/2 Stars. Service - Hats off to the Buc-ee's staff, because while it's always super crowded, I've never had to wait long because there are so many checkout stations and the staff are so nice and helpful. Everyone, from the staff making the BBQ to the fudge counter, everyone is super helpful. 1 Star. Facility - The bathrooms at Buc-ee's have earned legendary status. They're clean, the line moves fast, and it leaves you plenty of time to shop for....ANYTHING. Need pool supplies? Check. Flamin' Hot Cheetos? Check. Cookies? Check. Clothes? Check. You get the idea. The staff chops up fresh brisket sandwiches for you to grab and go. For me? I always grab the sugar roasted pecans. I can eat a cone of these sweet, warm treats in one sitting. Oh, Buc-ee's has gas too. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I'll plan my road trips around spending time at Buc-ee's. It's always a great rest stop where I can refuel my car and my body. 1 Star.
