13/12/2011 Photos For so many years growing up, purchasing…read morenew sunglasses was merely a window-shopping experience. My eyes would have a field day (ooh...I like that one! that's shiny!) as I browsed what appeared to be a wide range of new school and old school sunglasses. I was expecting this to be a quick visit and to walk away - considering everything in the store to only be suited for someone with much more disposable income than myself. Lured inside by the proximity of the store to the Malls Balls (traffic centre of Rundle Mall), I decided to sum up the courage to just walk in! I suddenly believed that I am good enough for this store! I may not be rich, but I can pretend to be! I was suddenly resurrected from the dead from my last review, especially with the help of the friendly shop assistant (who had a fantastic sense of humour by the way! He said, "to call him Mango, because he's hot all year round!" lol) who literally hand picked things that were the "best-selling" glasses that "made me look fly" and helped me ignore those round black sunnies that "make me look like a fly". In what felt like more than half an hour of mutual rapport, after sorting through some cool and very expensive sunglasses, I came away remembering a few of those gorgeous brands (I personally digged the look of the 'Paul Smith' and 'Oliver Peoples' glasses, if you can afford the $550 price tag) that were high on my ratings. My imitation of being fly for the day is done! :) Shades is like the quiet marketplace of sunglasses - no-one has ever talked about it but if you find this store, and you're looking to add a little coolness in your life, I would highly recommend a visit!

So impressed with Sunglass Hut at Harbourtown!…read more Went in there looking for sunnies (duh!) and found out that, in addition to the regular range, they stock "less than perfect" which is when someone has dropped/scratched a pair of sunnies, they sell them for 50% off. How did I not know about this until today?! Considering I have a 16mth old daughter who loves to throw/drop my stuff I don't mind getting a less than perfect pair! I was choosing between 2 pairs, one normal and one less than perfect (the sales lady pointed out the scratch but I honestly couldn't see it). The manager asked how I was going and I told her I couldn't decide. She looked at the sunnies and then took the normal pair off me and said "let me see if I can find something wrong with these, then I can label them as less than perfect and I'll do it 2 for 1". She studied them for a few minutes but couldn't find anything wrong, then said "I'll do it anyway" so I paid half price for one pair of sunnies and got the other pair for free!! To say I was stunned was an understatement. I got a pair of Versace and a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunnies ($900 normal price) for $240. Stoked. I know where I'll be doing all my sunnies shopping in future!

The sunglass hut is a very popular place to buy sunnies from. Wether you're looking for fashion sunglasses, or protective eyewear then the sunglass hut have got you covered. The best thing about this store? It's large which means it has plenty of stock to offer, and of course the most important part is that it's an outlet store (cue screaming) with means all eyewear and accessories are discounted. You won't find better at any other Sunglass Hut.

Now I'm usually the kind of person that buys their sunnies cheap so, should I break or lose them, I don't need to mourn over any failed investment. But with a new job, I decided it was time to go looking for something a little more than the usual $5.00. $20.00, perhaps. Hell, maybe even $30.00. Imagine my surprise, then, when I discovered the Ray-Bans in my hand were worth $100.00! It was at this moment of vulnerability I was beset upon by a cheery salesman, offering his aid. Stupidly, I inquired about a discount. He offered me a forty dollar voucher. Stupidly, I was accepted. We approached the register - me with the sunglasses that were soon to be mine, he with the happy prospect of a sale. He put the order through and asked for the $100.00. I inquired about the voucher. He revealed I would not be able to use the voucher until my next purchase. I was perturbed, but it made sense. And I suppose I still had forty dollars to spend here after I inevitably broke or lost the expensive glasses I was buying. I gave him my money and he finished running the transaction through the machine. He waited until after he had handed me the receipt to inform me of this very important fact: the voucher may only be redeemed with a $90.00 purchase. 'By the way,' he had begun. It's standard, of course. It makes sense. But the way he withheld the information... I can't help but feel he was trying to trick me into the purchase. I felt violated.

Things haven't changed much, they have a great range of designer sunnies, but expect a high price tag, the cheapest pairs in here are close to the $100 mark. I agree with Mario P. that the staff are not beyond reproach when it comes to a sale. They can be quite pushy, make sure you push back just as hard. Having said that they have a fantastic array of my fave brand Bvlgari, nice to look wistfully at. In a nutshell - designer sunnies galore!

If you like quality and in need of a new pair of glasses, these are the guys you should go and see. They stock brands including Oliver Peoples (worn by all the beautiful people in Hollywood), Prada, Chanel, Bvlgari ... you get the idea. What I like about the Opt Shop is that the staff realise you're about to spend a mozza on your new glasses and give you some pretty good advice when it comes to what suits and what doesn't suit your particular face shape. The Opt Shop is actually a bit of a one stop shop when it comes to your eyes. You can get your eyes tested here, they will write and fill your prescription, you can also get contact lenses (yay!) and they do repairs if you happen to bend or sit on your existing glasses (but it's probably best not to sit on them if you can help it). The staff are friendly, well trained and the know their stuff. Its not cheap but buying glasses never is so why not Opt for the best you can get.

You see, although I have eyes the colour of the most beautiful blue sky you have ever seen, they don't work too well! That right, I am pretty much blind without my specs. But, and this goes without saying, The Scott has impeccible taste and takes quite some time in searching for the perfect pair of glasses to frame the dreamy windows into his soul. One store, where I have spent many an hour is Opt Shop down in the dungeons of the David Jones building. The selection size is comparable, if not smaller than most stores, but it is the quality that counts.....and quality they have! There are some super funky, classy and just plane awesome frames, plus some that you would expect to see on Elton John. Just one word in passing though.....make sure you are cashed up!

Adelaide Central Plaza is one of those cool places in the hot weather that Adelaide is prone to,…read morewhere you know it is air conditioned and below the ground, so there are less likely to be flies annoying you while you try and relax and eat. It is a food hall essentially but does have a range of stores and services built in as well; quite a few decent male clothing stores on the slightly higher end price wise, but good stuff - I bought a pair of ankle boots at one of them recently, marked down from $300.00 to $125.00 so pretty good bargains at the right time of year. Food wise it is a reasonable spread of Asian, Mexican and if you wander into the David Jones Department Store food hall you get sushi and regular Anglo type seafood platters (fish and chips) and a glass of wine. There are stores for hair dressing, electronics stores and a newsagent among the other specialty shops you'll find in here, and if it is a really hot day you can come up into Rundle Mall via the entrance at the rear avoiding a little more of the topside heat. The toilets are usually clean and there is always paper available certainly in my experience in the 'Mens'.

My two favourite places here to grab a bite to eat are T-bar and the sushi place inside Food Glorious Food. I often stop in at the newsagency to buy pens or magazines, and the chemist for medicine, tissues, hair ties, or any thing vaguely chemisty. I also love broswing through Bed Bath and Table. The main drawcard for me is the free wifi. I'll either grab a chai smoothie from T-bar, or just find myself a table, and set up my computer to do some work. There are bandwidth limits, but I've never experienced a slow down. I sometimes work here for hours, when I'm finding too many distractions at home. There are plenty of other stores like The Body Shop, Pumpkin Patch, and I think Esprit might still be up the top, but I rarely venture above the food court unless I'm going to David Jones.

Well, I can tell you this much, this store sure is adorable! Channelling a hipster/Frankie Magazine…read morevibe, this store is all about the whimsical. Walking into the store and hitting the floorboards you're greeted by a great array of Polaroid cameras and film displayed oh-so prettily and are then led down the store into a varied display of home wares and gifts. The prices are reasonable, most items being around $40, with more to pay for the glassware and cameras, putting it into a good position when buying gifts and the like. I loved the range of books on offer, topics on knitting, decorating, up-cycling and vintage are all covered. I've given Presence three stars even though I loved the store, because all though it was all very nice to look at, I couldn't find a present for a dear friend who loves this style in the store. I also couldn't find anything for myself, because although it all very pretty, I'm just not too sure if I would buy it and keep it for myself. Well worth a peruse next time you're heading down King William.
