Mini Asian supermarket at the top of the Heights area. Parking is available in the dumpy narrow lot next to the building, as well as on the streets. This building used to be a bank. Therefore it is smaller than most other supermarkets. My friends warned me about this, but I didn't realize it was *that* small. I don't it's even 1/4 the size of the somewhat nearby T&T. There were maybe 3 aisles in the place. The saddest part of the entire supermarket was the hot food section. The shelves are about the size of a window sill. I wanted to pick up something but left empty handed and shaking my head. Hopefully they survive, but honestly I have a hard time justifying a return visit. In fact I can't really think of a reason to pick this place over T&T. Oh yeah, pricing was decent. read more

When I walked in, I thought I was in an Asian Trader Joe's (they even have the bells!). At least that's the feeling that I get at the newly opened Sungiven Foods in Burnaby. When it first opened there was a line up around the parking area. Now it's calmed down, and the baskets and buggies have been disinfected after every use. The have had sanitizer for you to use, as well as stickers on the ground for social distancing. The vegetable are displayed nicely, a lot of the leafy green veggies are pre-bagged so it's easy enough to grab and move on. **Note** everything in the store including the the veggies and fruit are paid per ITEM. NOT pounds/lbs, but per-bag or piece. This includes, fruits and loose vegetables. They have a food variety of meats, including organic items. Plus they have pre-sliced hotpot meats, dumplings, seafood and ice creams in the freezer section for all your hotpot and dessert needs. Sauces, snack foods, rice, instant noodles, hotpot soup bases, baking ingredients as well as dried Asian soup spices/ ingredients can easily be found there. Pre-made hot foods are also at your finger tips for a quick bite to eat and it includes a bowl of rice. The staff is friendly and making sure that they're keeping you safe by wearing masks and gloves. All anyone can ask is that you do your part. You can bring your own bags or pay 5 cents for a paper bag. ' My overall take, is that its reasonable. The prices aren't ridiculous, especially if you just want to pick up a couple things. It was their Grand Opening day for their Burnaby location. Brand new Asian grocery store on the Burnaby Heights at the corner of Hastings and Gilmore There was a line up to go in since they limit 30 customers in the store at a time There was hand sanitizer at the entrance for customers to use. This store is not big like Superstore or T &T but they offer the typical/common groceries most households need and they are well stocked. There's a great variety of Asian items and locally made foods in the store like marshmallows from Butter Baked Goods. The store was clean and it was helpful that the staff could speak English. I found the prices were comparable to other Asian stores. They also had a section of in-store prepared and ready to eat Asian meals like noodles and rice. They also had Dim Sum from Kirin Restaurant. I love this smaller, classier version of T&T Supermarket. They concentrate on Chinese foods, not too much choice in other Asian products. The produce section is wonderful, and reasonably priced. The fresh meats and refrigerator sections are small but neat. There's a large frozen section and some fresh prepared foods, also a few gifts and plants. You'll find seasonal packages of fruits or grocery products for gifting. The employees seem very happy and proud of their jobs, and this location, at least, is conveniently located with lots of free parking. You will enjoy shopping here, I am sure. read more

Looking for convenience & decent quality? They have a limited supply of hot pre-packaged food at the back. Each hot container purchase includes a free small mixed grain rice bowl. I always grab n' go for dinner here when I'm not in the mood to cook. Apparently Kirin (the restaurant) makes this food & the rice is from Sungiven themselves. I finally chose to checkout this place after driving past it numerous times. I was impressed. There's complimentary parking on the side of the building or there's free street parking. They're located right off Gilmore and East Hastings. The place is clean and inviting. The fruit and vegetable section was well organized with plenty of fresh and good quality items. The prices are comparable to other stores. There's a good selection of unique and regular Asian products ranging from soup bases and frozen meat to make you own hot pot to prepared dishes for takeout. It was fun to browse through the aisles to see what kind of different products they carry. They even sold the biggest apple on the planet, imported in from China that was presented in an unique wooden box. I wasn't too impressed with their floral section. Their orchids looked great except many other plants were dead or half dead. I highly recommend this place to shop for unique products at reasonable prices! Ex t&t staff member opened up grocery in Burnaby Heights! It just opened April 10th. Their set up like a trader joe and have hot food items! Prices aren't too bad. They charge $.10 for bag and letting people bring their own bags. So they missed that memo on that especially during this Covid time. They seem to have a good selection of items from Dairy, veggies, canned items and jars sauces. They have my laksa noodles! A small bright Asian supermarket with a limited selection of goods. The prices are good. On-site parking is rather limited. As the store is on the smaller side, many staff members and customers don't obey social distancing. For example, a male staff member walked right up next to me while wearing his mask improperly as he was busy looking at photos on IG. There are also some items in the store that do not have seals on them so people can easily tamper with them. If you do wish to visit, I would recommend coming after 7 pm when the store is mostly empty. read more

As soon as I walked in this place reminds me of Trader Joe's in the states. It is a mid size grocery store but very well done. It's well organized and clean inside. They also carry imported fruits, Kirin dim sum and other cold deli dishes. They have a small section of parking on the side of the building but you can also do street parking (which is also free). Their selection of frozen food is also worth a look at, they have great hot pot meat selections. I got some of their escargot, which I've not seen anywhere else in the city before. Overall well done grocery store, hope they continue to bring in more high end and rare products. read more

Newest addition during COVID-19 is likely Sungiven Foods (the old HSBC by Gilmore). So, if you want to check out how a Taiwanese grocer gets HEAVILY INSPIRED BY Trader Joe's and create a store, please come here. It is basically an Asian copy to the point of having single bananas for sale and a tasting corner - like Trader Joe's. Prices are high compared to other Asian groceries that I shop. They do offer hot dim sum from Kirin, and have a small selection of ready made meals. It is a great addition to The Heights neighborhood as this area is missing an Asian grocery. They currently lack everything I love about TJ, which hopefully this will change in the future: genuinely friendly staff (customer service? Asians? What's that?), TJ's own brand of unique and exotic snacks and foods (apparently they have their own brand of foods, which we didn't see), and two buck (and a bit) chuck. Like a lot of Taiwanese stuff, they are cuter and cleaner than other Asian establishments. Will I come here to pay extra for reminiscing my beloved TJ? Not, until they have their own brand of stuff that I appreciate like as I was in a TJ. read more

Nice and clean the inside looks sorta like a trader joe's but, unfortunately they don't have any of the cool stuff they have lol. Warning people in here don't know what social distancing means lol they're all up in your space. This market is okay TnT is better they have more selection. I think I'd rather go to TnT though because I couldn't find all the items I was looking for. It would be good for a quick trip to the grocery store. Their hot meal selection looked pretty weak too a lot of really dried up looking food. The check out also takes a long time. We were 2nd in line to pay for the longest time. I came here this morning just after 9am, when I entered one of the staff gave me pair of latex gloves. The store is quite small, reading about it online I thought it would be much bigger since they were comparing it to T&T. The produce section was the busiest part of the store.....not much social distancing going on there. They also have their meat section right by the produce which I didn't think was a very good idea. The place is small and the aisle's are narrow as well, you can barely get by if you have a cart. The prices were definitely on the high side. As far as the products go it was pretty basic stuff, nothing too exotic or hard to find items. The staff were quite pleasant. Overall I would have to say I wasn't too impressed with this place. There is free parking in the back and when I left there was a line up outside. read more

It's a bit small but really it's all this neighborhood needs. Don't need a super sized place swallowing up all the smaller shops. It's well balanced in the heights, everyone has their niche so it really just means more options in the area! It's nice wandering the heights and finding different things, style everywhere. I was pleasantly surprised at their meat and fish/seafood offerings. And overall the pricing is good to fair. Surprised at how much space there was to move inside. Can't wait til they are allowed to fire up their cooked food area. Sure it's not a one stop shop like tnt but as I mentioned, the diversity in the area is good. Walking through the Heights on a Sunday afternoon and noticed no line up. Decided to check it out. Quickly realized why there was no line up. Everyone was in the store. Place was packed. Counted over 40 customers in this very small store. Staff was useless standing around and talking to each other. Staff blocking where I was wanting to walk,,,,,three times in a quick 2-minute tour of the store. With all this extra staff around, you can't get anyone outside to organize people coming in. Hand carts were not sanitized either. Decided not to buy anything as there was a line up at each cashier, even though all the cashiers were open. Took a quick spin around the store as there was only 4 short aisles. Nothing special and I wondered why there was line ups these past weeks. Absolutely no following any rules regarding social distancing, amount of people in the store and the shopping is chaotic. Makes me wonder that if they are this careless out in the open, then the food handling behind the scenes is even more careless. With stores like Red Apple, Cioffis and Triple AAA all close by, why bother here. A place like TNT crushes this place.....and is way safer to shop. read more

I have been shopping at Sungiven for a couple of years now and decided last week to try a pack of the frozen mini sreamed dumplings (spicy shrimp) they carry. The brand name is South China Taste. I absolutely do not recommend that product. The dumpling wrap was thick and doughy tasting. The filling was miniscule and virtually no trace of shrimp and definitely not spicy tasting or flavouful. read more

This is a new Asian franchise grocery store that just opened at the north Burnaby neighbourhood. It carries mostly Asian products and has decent selection of fresh vegi, fruits, meat and frozen seafood. They also sell Kirin dim sum in the hot food station. The price is reasonable for most of the products. Gloves were offered at entrance due to covid19. Overall, things are very organized and clean. However, it won't be a one stop shop for all due to store size and limitations on its shelf space. It's worth mentioning that they use paper bag instead of plastic bag. read more

Very small Asian grocery store with fresh fruit, veggies and packaged meats. A little higher price than other stores but still reasonable. Only 2 rating as I don t think the owner realize that we are in copid 19 time. They are still charging $.5 it $.10 for a plastic bag. All the big stores and little stores have set this change aside so u don t bring in your own bag. The government has put this charge away.but Sungiven is still charging. This could hurt their following in the local area customers as .5 is a make it break for Asians. I see some would go to T & T just to save the .5 or .10. Owners need to fix this fast. read more
