What a nice place! When my wife and I first opened the door to our room it smelled clean! That is…read moresuch a reassuring feeling because if you traveled long enough you know what it's like when you stay at a place that smells stale. Ayus (sorry, I don't know how to spell his name) and his wife are so kind! My wife and I didn't have a ride to Rapid City to get our rental car. Ayus and his wife drove us into town to a mechanic to rent a car. When the shop was closed they called their friend who agreed to drive us. I don't know what we would have did if we didn't get that ride. Ayus and his wife keep the place clean. The gardens are well kept and it is a peaceful sitting outside. They always have coffee, snacks, and fruit waiting for when you wake up. It has the feel like you took a walk back in time to the 50s. It was really cool!

Tucked away (and I mean "tucked" away) in Newcastle, you'll find your stay for the evening. Don't…read moreget discouraged if you can't find it right away. It's there. I eventually found it. Of course, I wasn't using GPS like you are, so it took me a bit longer. Tucked away means quiet and quiet it was. Birds chirping were the only sounds I heard when I opened the car door. That's a good sign if you're looking for quiet. I checked in and was given room #13. Yes, it ran through my mind, uh oh, unlucky number 13. But doom and gloom weren't in the cards for me. Quite the contrary. Number 13 was exceptionally clean and comfortable. My host was friendly and helpful when it came to suggesting a place for dinner. Though trying to follow his directions found me at an oil refinery. LoL! Again, no GPS. I eventually backtracked and ended up where I started to. Quick Tip: At your next stop at a store, pick up some cheap double AA batteries and shove them into your suitcase. You'll be glad you did when your remote for the TV doesn't work. No having to go through the hassle of getting dressed and making your way to the front desk or waiting for maintenance to get to your room. Just pop them in, and you're set. As I had to do at The Pines. It didn't take but a minute before I could watch the mindless dribble which spewed forth. Oh, don't forget to pull your batteries before you leave. You'll undoubtedly need them down the road.

Hilltop Motel - Mounted TV with a cute little kitchen area- includes a fridge & microwave

This is our third time staying at the Hilltop and this time our stay was perfect. The rooms are…read morenewly remodeled, bright, airy and clean. The price is amazing, about 30%-50% less than what other hotels in Newcastle are charging. And if you want a hotel room right in the Black Hills, say in Custer (37 mi away), expect to pay 4X as much. Newcastle is right between Devil's Tower (WY) and Mount Rushmore (SD), so it is the perfect location for all your Black Hills site seeing. Yes, this is an older hotel, built in the 40's or 50's and the rooms are small. But they are spotlessly clean. The tub has an 11-jet Jacuzzi, the perfect thing after day of hiking the trails and seeing the sites in the Black Hills. There's a small kitchen area with a table, 2 chairs, a bench, a small fridge (that actually freezes ice!) and a microwave. No phone, but there's TV, WiFi and plenty of plug outlets to charge all your electronics. The only thing this room lacks is hangers, so bring a few with you. If you've read negative reviews about the Hilltop, check the date. It is true that under the former owners the rooms were often not clean and with worn carpet and dark paneling, the room seem closed and dingy. But now, under new ownership, this is an ideal place to stay.

Stopped in by chance on a cross country motorcycle trip. Astounded. Awesome on-property owner,…read moreclean rooms, excellent internet service, door side parking. A classic motor hotel from history, well maintained and my highest recommendation for Eastern Wyoming. Go the extra miles off the Interstate and get to Newcastle and stay here. You won't regret it! It also makes a fantastic base camp for day trips into South Dakota - right in line with Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave and more, without the crowding, costs and traffic of staying in the Black Hills.

We stayed in the RV portion of this inn. The RV spaces were pretty tight with not much room to move…read morearound. Our RV was only a few feet from other RVs on either side (we could basically see inside to our next door neighbors with ease). The people that run the place are very nice and friendly. They also do have basic cable for the campsites which is rare to find. However, internet means more to me and their wifi was quite slow. I ended up putting my phone back to 4G because that was faster than their internet. Biggest part that freaked me out was the multiple signs around the women's bathroom saying that police will be called if men enter (they were handwritten so I assume this was a problem prior to the signs being hung up). I took a very fast shower and tried to get out as fast as I could! Water and electric worked just fine otherwise.

I have stayed here in the past without any issues. This last stay was a very poor experience. Was…read moreout on a hunting trip and wasn't looking for anything special, however bad stay and bad charges resulted. First off room wasn't the cleanest when I arrived. Mold in bathroom. Sink wouldn't drain and had a pungent odor. Found mold in coffee pot and dried up banana was under my bed. Plan wasn't to stay there during day, just somewhere to rest at night. When we left we made sure to pick up all the trash and bag it up setting outside the door. Picked and the room and ensured dirty towels were piled up in bathroom to help with easy clean up. Please note, no one came to clean our room not once during our stay!!! When I got my bill and headed home. Lady charged me several days later a 250$ cleaning charge!! For what, no explanation. Like I said hunting during the day so only sleeping there at night. Picked up before we left. For what I paid for the room and the extra unnecessary charge I would have been better off somewhere else. Won't stay here again. Beware as they will charge for items that you didn't not dirty or damage. Lady won't answer my calls to question the 250$ cleaning charge. Just hangs up.
