I'm here writing this review to share in my experience and how I came upon the Sage Motel in Newcastle, Wyoming. I had just spent a fun filled day exploring incredible and extraordinary Devils Tower National Monument and was heading on the next step of my journey to the Black Hills of Custer, South Dakota. I figured before getting to the great sights of the Black Hills, I'd spend the evening in Newcastle and that's how I found the Sage Motel. From Devils Tower, It's only 75 miles to get here. Then from Newcastle it's a quick 37 miles to Wind Cave National Park, my upcoming destination to visit the following day. The motel is pretty simple...they have an "L" shaped row of rooms at reasonable rates. I visited in July in the height of travel season and it was $85 with tax for the evening. I ended up with a room at the end of the strip. Each room has their own parking spot. Although I was a little suspect about the outside looking conditions of the motel, I was pleasantly surprised about how nice and new my room looked on the inside. I had 2 comfortable queen beds with brand new looking carpeting, a couple of lounge chairs, spotless white looking bathroom with plenty of towels and a sliding door shower. I was highly impressed with the conditions of my room that I started feeling a comfort as if I were staying in my own quaint little condo. Sage Motel is situated just on the outer portion of Newcastle. When I checked in, it was recommended that I drive 5 minutes into the center of town and have dinner at Isabella's...a cozy little Italian American restaurant that I absolutely enjoyed. This was a great way to end my wonderful day of finally witnessing grandeur Devils Tower and then coming here to Newcastle and appreciating a homestyle meal. In my opinion, Newcastle, Wyoming gets labeled as a town that most travelers just pass on through. Though it should not go unrecognized..... If you're heading east towards South Dakota and the magnificent sights of Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park and more or you're journeying north towards Devils Tower.... you can always spend an evening and appreciate small town vibes with a clean and comfortable stay here at the Sage Motel.

    This the setting area :)

I had to stay in New Castle, Wyoming for employment reasons, we had previously stayed at another motel and were unhappy with the service, Chloe and her husband, are extremely outgoing and willing to help with anything you may need. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you find yourself in need of a hotel, The Sage is the place to be. They have plants everywhere and porch settings with games and tables to places to sit, extremely homey and you can also barbque on the side!!! A++++++++

Had a good stay here! Has been nicely remodeled - furniture and fixtures way of above "motel" standards. You can tell the owners care.

Of course, I wasn't using GPS like you are, so it took me a bit longer. Tucked away means quiet and quiet it was. Birds chirping were the only sounds I heard when I opened the car door. That's a good sign if you're looking for quiet. I checked in and was given room #13. Yes, it ran through my mind, uh oh, unlucky number 13. But doom and gloom weren't in the cards for me. Quite the contrary. Number 13 was exceptionally clean and comfortable. My host was friendly and helpful when it came to suggesting a place for dinner. Though trying to follow his directions found me at an oil refinery. LoL! Again, no GPS. I eventually backtracked and ended up where I started to. Quick Tip: At your next stop at a store, pick up some cheap double AA batteries and shove them into your suitcase. You'll be glad you did when your remote for the TV doesn't work. No having to go through the hassle of getting dressed and making your way to the front desk or waiting for maintenance to get to your room. Just pop them in, and you're set. As I had to do at The Pines. It didn't take but a minute before I could watch the mindless dribble which spewed forth. Oh, don't forget to pull your batteries before you leave. You'll undoubtedly need them down the road.

I didn't want to spend a lot because this was just going to be used for sleep during a nice little road trip. The owner actually was outside when we pulled up late(930pm) and he was very helpful and gave us the room key. The room was small and quaint very clean very vintage feeling. The bed was very comfortable it was soft but firm and did not feel old. Very quiet environment no loud noises even early in the morning. Also, a very cute area outside for lounging around. I would highly recommend staying here!

The Sage Motel has great WIFI and many charging ports. Beautiful king sized bed. I highly recommend driving past the Hilltop Motel to the Sage Motel. Locally owned. Refreshing attitude and service.

The price is amazing, about 30%-50% less than what other hotels in Newcastle are charging. And if you want a hotel room right in the Black Hills, say in Custer (37 mi away), expect to pay 4X as much. Newcastle is right between Devil's Tower (WY) and Mount Rushmore (SD), so it is the perfect location for all your Black Hills site seeing. Yes, this is an older hotel, built in the 40's or 50's and the rooms are small. But they are spotlessly clean. The tub has an 11-jet Jacuzzi, the perfect thing after day of hiking the trails and seeing the sites in the Black Hills. There's a small kitchen area with a table, 2 chairs, a bench, a small fridge (that actually freezes ice!) and a microwave. No phone, but there's TV, WiFi and plenty of plug outlets to charge all your electronics. The only thing this room lacks is hangers, so bring a few with you. If you've read negative reviews about the Hilltop, check the date. It is true that under the former owners the rooms were often not clean and with worn carpet and dark paneling, the room seem closed and dingy. But now, under new ownership, this is an ideal place to stay.
