The bottom line is that Greg is probably a nice enough guy, but was unprofessional and somewhat abrasive in how he managed the work, and we would never recommend or use him again.
Specifically, we recently bought a house and needed some limbs from a large ash tree trimmed, and a stump ground. Greg's quote was a bit cheaper than some of the others we received, so we referred two of our neighbors to him to have their stumps ground as well. We set up the work for a specific day, but that day Greg didn't show up, and didn't call to let us know. We left a voicemail wondering when he'd be able to do the work, as Greg had requested to use our neighbor's driveway and we wanted to be courteous about when this would happen (especially as new neighbors). Three days later, Greg called back and scheduled the work for the end of the following week. For the second time, when that day came, he didn't show up and didn't call. After leaving another message, we again heard back several days later, and finally he did the work about a week after that (this was the third time we'd scheduled it). The work was acceptable, though he did leave all of our deck furniture strewn in a pile in the corner, rather than returning it to where it had been, which wouldn't have been difficult.
He left a paper invoice at our doorstep, and since the stump grinding was scheduled for the following week with a subcontractor, we waited for the stump to be ground so we could send a single check. The stump was ground when scheduled. About a week after the stump was ground, Greg left a fairly hostile voicemail demanding payment, upset that it had been 2-3 weeks since the first part of the work was done. We sent him a check for all of the work immediately, but it was just annoying that he obviously kept close track of time and decided to use his phone when it had to do with getting paid, but not when it came to common courtesy and the satisfaction of a client. read more
