The owner was nothing more then a liar and a thief. first night my sister was there he called said to come get my sister or he was going to call 911 and have her placed on a 72hr hold. The next day I found Brittany house I spoke with Erin I let her know what had happen with beach homes she was so understanding of what was happing. I meet that same day with Erin she was amazing with in a few days my sister was moved to brittany house. Erin had gone out of her way to help and understand in a very difficult time. I would strongly advise anyone considering this place for a loved one to look elsewhere. The Memory Care/Locked Unit: The "care" in the locked unit was non-existent. The staff--mostly teenagers--were huddled together on their phones, completely ignoring the residents. The smell of soiled clothing was overwhelming, suggesting residents are left for long periods without changes. Even more alarming, I saw residents with scaly skin, bruising, and marks on their arms that looked like they had been roughly handled or restrained against their will. One gentleman was in the hallway crying to go home, and no one even looked up from their screens to comfort him. Professional Misconduct: When I asked for a floor supervisor to address the lack of staff in the assisted living area, a woman eventually appeared from a storage closet with a male, adjusting her clothes in a very unprofessional manner. It turned out she was the supervisor for the unit. The lack of supervision and basic professional ethics is appalling. Management: The Executive Director comes across as very "fake." Based on my visit, it seems management is focused on appearances and salary rather than the actual safety and dignity of the seniors living there. They are permitting an environment where neglect is the standard. This is not a safe environment for the elderly. I am in the process of reporting my observations to the proper authorities (Social Services and the Ombudsman) because no one should have to live in these conditions.

I would like to thank The Goodman Group for being poised enough to base their staff training on the Ritz Carlton Customer Service program. From the very beginning of my fathers stay you can see this type of training is obvious. Each and every person we had interaction with was kind, courteous, helpful and patient. I say this a lot lately because it is true. "We pay people to treat us poorly." This is not the case at Katella Senior Living. I was constantly shocked at the supreme level of customer service and care for my father. I would like to mention the ones I knew by name. The nurses and CNAs deliver care with a smile and true empathy. When there is an issue they resolve it quickly. I have been here less tham a week but with good pain management, excellent care from OT and PT I am now able to stand and sit in a wheelchair. She's gone from hospital to nursing home, back to hospital, back to nursing home and then finally to an assisted living down in Vista. It was a very nice facility very clean, and pretty accommodating but I guess my mother is not the easiest person to deal with on a daily basis. So not long after her stay began we started getting phone calls that your mother's doing this, she's doing that and that her care level is going to go up as well as our fees.Within 3 months our cost had nearly doubled due to us being nickel and dimed for every little thing. So we decided a change was necessary and we also wanted to get her closer to other family members closer to Long Beach / Los Angeles. We did have another option of a board and Care place down in Oceanside but the trips to visit meant an entire day was taken up just by the travel back and forth. We decided to take a shot and we checked out Vista del Mar. I'm thinking we made the right decision. Though it took a while for my mother to accept the move to a different style place with a little looser atmosphere and kind of less stuffy attitude. From the people we first dealt with mainly Jessica and Rebecca down to the caregivers, housekeepers and maintenance, everything that is ever brought to their attention is promptly dealt with. I'm not saying there's too many things to deal with just saying that I think I am there more than a lot of visitors and from what I see everyone is pretty much on top of things over there. As I said before my mother is not an easy person to deal with but they seem to think she's a pleasure Anyhow since she has been there she now is able to fit into her slippers and shoes which she was unable to do at the prior facility due to her feet and ankles being excessively swollen and she wasn't very Mobile on her own at that point. Now there's times I show up and she walks around her room and she even walks herself to the dining area and she's wearing her shoes because obviously her medications are being given to her on a timely basis like I'm assuming maybe they were not before at the other facility. I'm very grateful for the care that she has receiving here and I really don't have anything negative to say about the place. Add in the fact that the aforementioned people Jessica and Rebecca and some others have volunteered assistance in possibly getting us to a more affordable level through programs because even though their rates are better than most it's still difficult for us people that are on a certain budget. That just added to the attraction of trying this place out and I'm glad that we did. It also doesn't hurt that my dog and best friend Conrad has become like a mascot of the place and spends every visit visiting with a lot of the other residents every time we are out there. All in all I don't even feel like I'm going to a facility when I show up over there it's just more like somewhere where my mother lives.

I originally settled on Crofton Manor because I found the staff very responsive, caring and I appreciated the spacious rooms. While Crofton Manor is an older building it is kept very clean, the shared rooms are larger and have a clever floor to ceiling closet divider which allows for more privacy than other places I visited. My dad and I both appreciate the access to patios, light and fresh air. He began living at Crofton February of 2020. Then Covid hit hard in March. After living through the last year of tremendous anxiety, and now looking back, I am very impressed with/grateful to Crofton Manor's handling of this epidemic. I have grown to trust Amalia (Director) and Claudia (Chief RN) to be fully informed, and protecting of all their residence by following CDC protocol. Its been a terribly stressful year during which Crofton has exactingly cared for its people. At last my dad had his first vaccination this month! Importantly, I need to stress how much I appreciate that anytime I call, my inquiries have been answered by a live person who cares and is competent (this has not been the case in previous residencies my father has lived)! The staff is the best, from Stephanie lead nurse to Arristeo head of maintenance, Dr. Phillip my dad's GP, the caregivers who work so hard, kitchen staff, receptionists and office management, all are great! Thank you Crofton Manor for getting my dad and me through this nightmare year!
