In June 2024, we noticed the chinking cracking and failing and large cracks in some logs that had not been filled with caulking when the work was initially performed. In June 2024, Thomas stated that our warranty would not be honored. He stated that our home needed full restoration and that his team could do it for approximately $80,000. When he provided the quote, for which we paid $450 for his time to travel to our home, Thomas never questioned the type of stain on our logs. In addition, he stated that applying chinking in the winter was not an issue. The reasons given for not honoring the warranty, were first that our logs were rotten (this was not true). Then our logs were dirty and therefore the staining was not applied correctly and this was causing the chinking to fail (not true, logs in pictures had sawdust because carpentry work was still underway...besides, per his initial email, his team would clean logs before applying chinking. Then it was because we used the wrong stain (per my research, our staining was ok for chinking since it had been applied more than two months in advance). Then it was the linseed oil applied only to the exterior of home (this would not have impacted the interior chinking failures). His team saw our logs and never questioned the linseed oil on the exterior logs. In my opinion, if they cleaned the logs in the area of chinking as Thomas stated they would, this would not have been an issue. We had two separate professionals examine the chinking job and our logs. It was determined that the chinking materials were applied too thin and too much white plastic filler was used. In addition, we were told, that because of the standard chinking process, chinking should not be done during the winter months because the temperature is too cold and the impact cold weather has on the chinking product. We provided these statements to Thomas and invited him to come see the lack of quality work his team did. He agreed to visit the site for $650. Of course, we declined this charge. Disappointing that companies/professionals no longer honor warranties when any errors/oversite made were on their end and not the customer. In my opinion, this company should be used with caution. Many more pictures showing chinking failures.
