When I called to schedule my new patient appointment, I specifically explained that Dr. Chai had been recommended to me and that I only wanted an appointment with him.
I arrived with all of my new patient paperwork completed, and my out-of-pocket cost after insurance was $150. I mentioned to several staff members that I was looking forward to meeting Dr. Chai. Despite this, no one told me I would be seeing a different physician.
The doctor who entered my room did not introduce himself. When I asked about Dr. Chai, I was told that he does not work on Fridays. I later learned that the physician I had seen was Dr. Gayles; no one identified him to me during the visit.
I found Dr. Gayles' bedside manner cold, dismissive, and rude. I did not feel that he took an interest in my concerns, and the entire appointment felt rushed. He told me that my previous medical history had not been obtained and that they would be starting from scratch rather than using my prior records. As someone who has dealt with chronic pain management throughout my life, I found this deeply frustrating. He also ordered imaging that I had recently undergone.
I understand that a new physician needs to conduct an independent evaluation. However, I expected my medical history to be considered, my concerns to be heard, and my explicit request to see a particular physician to be respected. At a minimum, I should have been informed of the different provider before the appointment so I could decide whether to proceed.
I will not be returning. read more
