As the days approached, she was getting more and more apprehensive about going. I decided to go by myself and was warmly greeted by Farrah. Let me start with the end before I tell you the details. I love this place so much that I told Farrah that if I could do it, I'd sign the paperwork and move in today. There are two sides to the facility with a noticeable difference. They have assisted living and it feels like you are at a nice resort. They even have happy hour at the bar!! There's a bar folks! No hard liquor, only wine. It appears the people that I saw who live there were happy, active, and well cared for. When Farrah took me to the memory care side, it was quickly apparent that this was the side where people needed full assistance. It's expensive. There are a few financial incentives. There is one incentive that is worthwhile. For $300 a day, you can try it out. I believe the shortest term was two weeks. This is a great deal to make sure your loved one would be happy before making a costly mistake.

We're disappointed with Memorial Manor. My 90 yr old mother was admitted there on a Friday night…read moreafter a hip replacement surgery. I had my doubts to the success of her recovery due to not only her age but also that she has dementia. She had her first PT session on Monday morning which I was surprised and grateful that she was engaged in the OT session but not so much in the PT session. The therapist was great, Ms. Kathy. Ms. Kathy was able to complete simple stand-ups and single steps 9xs. I was excited and felt that this was proof that my mom had a great chance of being somewhat mobile again. The following day my mom's energy and willingness to participate in her sessions was disappointing but nevertheless the therapist persisted with the sessions. On the third day my mom was lethargic and showed behaviors not like her normal self. The OT therapist noticed her behavior and contacted the nurse. My mom was returned to her room. She had a low grade fever and her wbc had spiked. She was sent back to the hospital and was diagnosed with a severe UTI. After a week of antibiotics in the hospital she is ready for discharge. Memorial Manor has declined her request to return there for therapy. The reason, as stated in her letter from Memorial Manor was, "your needs cannot be met at this facility ". I understand my mom comes with roadblocks but when she arrived there the first day I was told by employees that "this is the best rehab center around ". My mom was there a total of five days. The first two days (weekend) there is no therapy sessions. She was diagnosed with a UTI on the fifth day. I don't want to feel that they are responsible for the UTI. I do feel that "the best rehab center around" didn't even give my mom a chance.

What made it worse, it happened in the very beginning of Covid. My sister and I did much research and we chose the Sheridan at Cooper City. Not possible we could have chosen better. Clean, affordable and filled with kind and caring people. The food was great and the activities (led by Paula) were amazing. In mid 2020 my mother fell and had to have a second hip replacement surgery. In February of 2021 my father passed away. The Sheridan staff gave my mother extra special attention and she began participating (after much encouragement from Paula) many of the activities an made new friends. When my mother fell ill with a UTI in December and was hospitalized for 4 weeks before passing away at age 95, Mary Buchanan and her staff reached out to me frequently to check on her and ask how I was doing. They worked with me moving out and with all the little things that had to get done with the kindness and compassion that they showed during their stay. If you have a loved one and are looking for a quality ALF, look no further than The Sheridan at Cooper City. I have no doubt you will love Mary and her Team.

I found the entrance to be secure. I found the young lady at the front desk to be polite and welcoming, yet thorough. I met with Musi Gal, who is a sales counselor- and I found her to be welcoming and polite. She spent well over an hour with me giving me a tour and reviewing what options there were available. She was down to earth, very informative (more than just the ALF) and transparent. I had visited many other ALFs, and she was the most genuine. I really feel this is important with ALFs. I met with other salespeople for ALFs, and many were very "salesy" and in a rush. Musi took her time with and did not make me feel rushed in any way. She was willing to show me the many areas I asked about. We went through lots of introductions of people that worked there- but in a really authentic way. I asked to see the memory care area- and it is BY FAR one of the nicest Memory Care areas that I have viewed in the area. The residents in the memory care area did not feel like they were being "corralled" into a small room. There seem to be enough staff on hand to handle the "neighborhood" I was in. It felt comfortable for my very important family member. I feel that when my family member needs to transition, she will feel safe and like she is a part of another family. Musi did not give me any pressure and gave me the most information than any other ALF I visited in the area. The residents seemed happy and healthy! Check them out- they are well worth the visit!

Many do not speak or understand English clearly enough. Very poor management for the most important section. The Ugly: The new administration is cold, uncaring and interested in profit only.They do not care about you or your elderly. Just remember that. You will have frequent rent increases. If I had to do it again, would I place my parent there? Absolutely no and if your parent is in need of care, think about it twice.

Birds, cats, parrots at the facility. Very good staff. Resident to aide ratio very good. Not the most up to date but the best in resident care.
