Ice cream rarely disappoints me and Summer Salt's product is no different. It is a delicious ice cream, not too sweet and that silky mouth feel that comes only from ice *cream* and not some 'healthy' alternative. There are easily two dozen options, including sorbets and vegan offerings, and those range from your standard chocolates & strawberry to butter pecan and more. This visit had me opting for a coffee-flavored ice cream, because apparently I've crossed the bridge in life where coffee is an anytime thing. But the Coffee Waffle Toffee, a coffee ice cream with crushed waffle cone and chocolate covered toffee bits, was simply smashing. The Mrs. chose the Chocolate Peanut Butter, which looked more vanilla-y but had some solid PB delivery, and she crushed that. We've had the strawberry as well, and that is a sensational alternative for any ice cream palate. If I knock a star, then it's for an overall delivery. If there is a line, then it gets confusing as it's just a couple of order 'windows'. Staffing is fairly usual, as in teens on their phones, and there isn't any seating, which may be a landlord thing. A single scoop runs $4.15, but the value is in the double at $5.90. Still, the ice cream wins and that's why you came here, right? Great product, good-enough execution, and Summer Salt's location will keep this ice cream spot around a good long time.

My visit to this new takeout ice cream place was okay with room for improvement. Adding an "open/closed" sign, posting hours of operation, describing the unique ice cream flavors on the menu (including Hokie Pokie, I Heart KC and Super Human) and adding better patio seating would be helpful. I found the service at the window to be accommodative and the single scoop strawberry ice cream cup ($3.85, which seems high) to be just okay, with hardly any strawberries mixed in.

I will say though, few of the flavors I saw there are similar to what you find in other ice cream (Betty Rae's) shops and that's why I didn't feel they were very unique. But the flavors here definitely have deeper and stronger taste and not like the light and plain ones you get other . The staff were great and the shop was very clean. I tried maybe 4 or 5 flavors and each time they gave it to me on a small steel spoon, which I really appreciated. I like that they don't use much plastic spoons just for tasting so full marks to them for that. I didn't notice any seasonal flavors when I was there but I have heard they do have good seasonal ones too sometimes. The ones I tried were lavender honey, chocolate fudge, coffee, and lemon cake and I honestly loved all of them. I also asked if they had any ice creams with less sugar since I am a diabetic and they had no information about it. I ended up getting half a scoop of the kids cup :) I don't understand why this location has less rating than it deserves. I would give it 5 out of 5 and surely recommend everyone to check it out.

4.5 stars but rounding up…read more I've been hearing about this place since it opened up in KS and the hype, but never went because it's out of the way for me. But today I went and wish I had sooner! I got to sample a few seasonal flavors, including sticky toffee pudding, pandan polvoron with raspberry jam, and sugar cookie. I also tried some regular flavors including gooey butter cake, butter brickle, Billie's tahini chocolate chip cookie, mounds of coconut, and lemon poppyseed. They were all good and I appreciated that they didn't limit me on samples. Though if I have a minor complaint I will say it was strange that I got sample sizes that were inconsistent, with one that was really generous, like a heaping spoonful, and also a couple samples that were stingy, like just shaving a thin slice off the top. The more scant samples made it hard for me to get a sense of what the ice cream flavor was like. One of those was butter brickle where I only got a caramelized flavor with chocolate specks, but from reading the description online it sounds like it has a lot more nuance. Kinda disappointing since that's one of their most popular flavors. Other than that though customer service was pretty friendly. Everyone was telling me their favorite flavors plus their mom's favorite flavors. I ended up getting the first two seasonal flavors I tried and they were both really good. The pandan polvoron one in particular was very unique especially for an ice creamery hailing from the Midwest. The pandan cheesecake base had a nice salty and sweet flavor. I didn't quite get pandan from the polvoron itself but they were good too! The raspberry swirl helped balance everything else out nicely. One thing I would like to echo is that this is fairly expensive ice cream, $5.50 for a mini scoop each. I don't mind paying for high quality ice cream I really like but it's far from the best value. Anyway I'll be back! To try more flavors, especially seasonal ones. I'm excited to see what they have to offer in the future, almost a 5/5 ice cream place for me.
