Fortunately, or unfortunately, I have had several dealings with attorneys. In fact, sometimes I…read moreeven think I'm an attorney. Maybe it was because I was a pre-law major, and breezed through the LSAT. Does this give me some sort of credentials? Uh, no, I don't think so; therefore, when I'm in a bind, I need to retain counsel. Indeed, I was in a bind, when I met Steve Barber. When I search for an attorney, I don't pick the first clown I see in the phone book with a colorful ad, and catchy line. No, I meet with about a half a dozen of them, ask questions, and make an educated decision. EVERY person we spoke to, had nothing but very positive remarks concerning Steve Barber. Now, how was I in a bind, you ask? Well, my wife and I sold a business, and the new owners, after approximately 9 months, defaulted. They owed us nearly $100,000, and we sure as hell were not going to just "forgive" this debt. No, we thought the best course of action was to aggressively go after them, and this required retaining the best attorney possible. During our initial meeting with Steve Barber, we were immediately impressed. Granted, I about choked when he told us his hourly rate, as he is far from cheap; but, you get what you pay for. Even though our case lasted about a year and a half, cost us $20K, and was stressful, there were several reasons to be impressed with Steve Barber: For example, our deposition was an act of brilliance. Barber, in my view (and his), simply, and successfully broke down the Defendants, and their attorney. In private, he referred to opposing counsel as a "Country Attorney", laughed, and said, "I'm having fun!" When the Defendant's attorney put his head in his hands, Barber looked at him, and said " Do you want to talk in private?" Basically, he was insinuating that we've got this, and we should begin settlement talks. Confident! Fortunately, this was settled at mediation, and we were finally paid. In fact, if we didn't retain Barber, we might not have ever been paid. He is aggressive, very knowledgable, and has the respect of his peers. Also- even though he is very expensive, I must say that his billing was extremely fair and honest. Great attorney, and actually a good guy as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
