I brought my vehicle in for simple electrical…read morework related to a detachable steering wheel:
* hook up the horn power connection
* Hook up cruise control accessibility
* Connect the volume/radio control module
When I dropped the car off, there were no ABS, traction control, or airbag lights on.
During the work, the mechanic broke the clock spring. Instead of stopping and properly repairing the issue, they ordered a replacement part and sent me home anyway with traction control and e-brake warning lights on, meaning the car effectively had no ABS or traction control. I was told the vehicle was "safe to drive."
This happened on back roads in Vermont, during snowy conditions. The car lost control, and I nearly crashed. That decision put my safety at serious risk.
When I returned , the situation was worse: * ABS light on
* Traction control light on
* Airbag light on
None of these were present before this shop touched my car.
I was also told there were "no steering issues," which was blatantly false. The steering wheel is severely off-center, and the alignment is clearly incorrect. Dave claimed the car was put on an alignment machine, but this was not believable--the machine had another vehicle (an Acura) sitting on it that clearly had not been moved and wasn't even in a condition to be aligned. The excuse given was that the alignment machine "might not be calibrated," which is not acceptable.
Instead of fixing the root problem, Dave attempted to clear warning lights with a basic scan tool and tried to send me home again, even though: * The e-brake light was still blinking
* The airbag light was still on
This shows a fundamental lack of understanding--or honesty--about the issue. The steering angle sensor attached to the clock spring was clearly not centered or calibrated, and the airbag resistor was not properly connected, which is why the airbag light remains on and continues to trigger ABS and traction control faults.
On top of all this, they broke my aftermarket horn, which is tied into the factory horn circuit. I repeatedly told them it was broken due to their work. When I picked the car up, it was still broken.
What I experienced here was negligence, dishonesty, and extremely unsafe decision-making. I was told things were fixed when they clearly were not. I was told the car was safe when it absolutely was not. Warning lights were ignored instead of diagnosed.
This shop caused multiple new problems, put me in danger, and then tried to cover it up by clearing codes instead of actually fixing anything.
