Gee is the best hibachi chef. Period. He consistently cooks everything to perfection, and here's…read morethe thing that sets him apart: he's one of the only people who doesn't overcook the lobster. Not just here, but at any hibachi I've ever eaten at. If you've had overcooked, rubbery lobster tail at hibachi before, you know how rare it is to find someone who gets it right every time. Gee gets it right every time. My go to is the shrimp, filet, and lobster combo. It's fire. Every protein cooked exactly how it should be, every bite better than the last. And here's a pro tip: if you're a small party, don't stress about reservations. Me and my wife have only made reservations twice. They always find a way to squeeze us in at the end of a table. That's rare at most hibachi places where you usually need to plan ahead. At Daruma, you get the craving, you go. Simple as that. The Verdict: Daruma remains our hibachi spot in Fort Myers. Excellent food, amazing service, Gee on the grill making magic happen, and flexibility for walk ins. If you can get Gee, do it. Five stars, no question, every single visit.

The containers they were pouring the sauces from looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. The service was terrible. And whatever you do, don't use the bathroom. It's so dirty that after seeing it, I completely lost my appetite. I wasn't even planning to leave a review, but it's now 5:00 a.m. and I've been sick in the bathroom all night after eating there. Based on my experience, I won't be returning.

As someone without an allergy, I ordered a roll that had crunch topping and was assured that it wouldn't impact my friends who have severe reactions to allergens. This sushi ended up ruining the night because my roll topped with crunch was packed in the same small container as the gluten-free hand rolls, meaning that my friend couldn't eat her dinner. To add insult to potentially life-threatening injury, the roll topped with crunch tasted so bad that I wasn't even able to eat the food that had contaminated the order. Another friend attempted to offer a gluten-friendly roll to the person with the gluten allergy, so imagine our surprise when this roll had crunch ADDED TO THE INSIDE OF IT FOR NO REASON. I know this level of negligence sounds unbelievable so I'm attaching photos.

In addition, they have a sushi bar and a few low top tables. We came for sushi. After a big lunch, we weren't that hungry. We each ordered a cucumber salad. This was a big bowl of thin slices of cucumber, seaweed salad, thinly sliced apples, and a couple piece of krab "stick" -- all in a sunomono like dressing. There were some black sesame seeds sprinkled on top. This was very refreshing. And a larger than expected portion. We decided to share a shrimp tempura roll. In addition to the fried shrimp, there was avocado and cucumber inside the rice side out roll. It was presented with a pretty bit of wasabi shaped into a leaf and a mound of pickled ginger. It had sweet eel sauce drizzled on top. This roll was more than large enough for us to share. With the meal, my husband enjoyed a small hot sake. We had good service. And enjoyed watching the shtick of the hibachi chef at the neighboring table. Please note: As indicated on the menu, they automatically add in a gratuity to your bill. It was 22%. We liked our food and our dining experience more than enough to return.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so bad that I feel others should know…read morebefore dining here. The biggest issue was safety. A member of my family was burned in the face because the hibachi chef aggressively cleaned the grill while we were still seated, causing hot grease and debris to fly toward our table. It was completely avoidable and extremely concerning. On top of that, every single meal was absolutely drenched in an overly sweet teriyaki sauce. We've been to many hibachi/teppanyaki restaurants over the years, and we've never experienced food prepared like this. The excessive sauce completely overwhelmed the flavor of the steak, chicken, shrimp, rice, and vegetables. Most of our meals went uneaten. When we spoke with the manager, hoping she would show some concern and work toward a reasonable solution, we were met with rudeness and a complete lack of professionalism. Instead of listening or showing empathy after someone had been burned and our meals were inedible, she became argumentative. When we explained that the compensation offered wasn't appropriate given what had happened and the fact that we barely touched our food, she actually yelled at us and told us to "go call the cops." I've never experienced customer service like that. Mistakes can happen, but how management responds makes all the difference. Between the safety issue, the poor quality of the food, and the manager's behavior, we will never return and cannot recommend this restaurant.
