Stopped by Sugar Bear Antiques recently and it was mostly similar to how I remembered. Good selection, some interesting collectibles. Price point is a bit high, but I was really bothered by the consistently, far right, MAGA political theme throughout the store. As with many vintage shops here in the south, there will be confederate items and collectibles. It is what it is. But signs about keeping the Washington Redskins name, feigned patriotism, deciding who are Americans, signage about the second amendment, I could go on and on, it's exhausting. Disgusting. When people are out shopping, regardless of their political and ethical leanings, they don't want to be bombarded with this messaging. We won't be back. read more

First time here the place is super adorable located in Julington Creek area. I didn't even know this place exist until today. They have over 100 different vendors. Each of them have their own booth and they're selling all kinds of stuff from antique furniture, dishes, beautiful pieces, broach, earrings, arts, etc I have purchased a weekend bag from one of the vendors there that I found out of Market Place. It was such a steal. I had a really good deal and the bag is brand new. Definitely be back here again for to check out other items, they also have sales every first weekend of the month and I'm going to come back here to look at their other stuff read more

My sister and I Came in to look around and were asked to put our purses in lockers to shop! I know theft is a problem but, I am not giving up my purse to shop for literal used stuff or anything for that matter! I will never be back! I have been in here multiple times and never been asked to lock my purse up! They obviously pick and choose who "looks" like a thief! I sincerely hope they go out of business! Decided to stop by here during our weekend antiquing while visiting our son at Mayport Naval Base. They do have a good-sized parking lot. We were greeted upon entry and thanked for stopping by upon leaving. The place is not as big as what we are used to, but is larger than most antique stores in the area and does have a varying collection of items. Unfortunately, we did not find that had to have item, mostly because the two items we found (A spiral metal plant stand and small metal bike plant stand), were not for sale. They should not have items on the floor that aren't for sale. I understand if you don't want to sell the shelves things are displayed on, but not the antiques themselves. Due to the distance from our home in Ocala, we more than likely won't be returning on our bi-yearly antiquing trips. Made to really feel welcomed as you enter. Be prepared to spend some time . So much to look at. So much fun ! Hubby and I are antiques. So, you can imagine the fun we had reminiscing. What kind of monster puts an Eagle, the symbol of freedom, over a cuntfederate flag? I typically ignore their tacky China made trump decorations and have been coming here for years and never had an issue with my purse or bag until the paranoid brown hair woman at the front argued with me about putting my valuables up. You do realize people have medical devices, epipens, and other valuables that don't fit inside their bags right? As well as diaper bags for babies, that may require special items while viewing around the booths. This poses a safety concern as she told me to put it in the lockers or in my car (they created an easy prey spot for car pickers). The store is too large to lock up an item we could need in a minute or less. It is a bit of a liability issue leaving things in lockers, and too hot to leave those types of items in the car. Maybe invest in better cameras if you're so worried? And if you still want to shop there, you can use a basket to carry around your stuff. Based on the countless reviews, they have major management / customer service issues. If the aforementioned isn't an owner or management your business would do great without her scaring away customers. She's extremely prejudice towards people as she didn't give me a hard time prior, or tell the other people in the store before me since they were walking around with large bags. read more

Not only a pleasant one but a relaxing shopping experience today at Sugar Bear. Holiday cheer filled the aisle of various booths displaying many antiques and other collectibles throughout the store. The employees are caring, helpful, kind and professional. The aisles are very spacious to walk and the individual sellers booths are neatly organized. The clean and comfy bathrooms are conveniently located in the back of the store. Parking is located on the property. I usually have something in mind when I visit and luckily I found what I was looking for...And more! Holiday sales have begun and what a perfect time to stop in and shop for those unique and wonderful gifts for your loved ones. But don't forget about YOU! Have visited many times and have never known the staff to be anything other than welcoming and helpful. I felt inclined to boast about my favorite local antique mall. I drive 30 mins from downtown to peruse the stalls here because 1) everyone that works here is SO KIND and helpful. I've even been on a semi-annual sale weekend when it's crazy busy, and the staff is still attentive and willing to assist. I'm really not sure what crawled up the skirt of the women that left bad reviews about the staff. It's definitely not their fault that sticky fingered little weasels have caused the new "check your large bag at the front" rule. They give you a locker and a key. Or, do what I do and leave it in your car ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I find it gets in the way anyhow. 2) they really have some of the best selections in the area. I find everything from antiques to local handmade items and even live plants! I'm on my way back again today to treat myself for my birthday. I wish I had read the reviews before I went. I walking in the door and was told my purse was 2 inches to large. I looked at the rude man and turned and walked out the door. This is ridiculous. I will not give them my business, but I will tell anyone i know that if you want to break in cars and get a purse this is the place to go. Several people leaving their purses in cars is not safe at all. I will never go back. I will give my business to Southern Crossings Antique mall or any other place but not here. Stopped in as a first time customer today.Two steps in the door with my daughter, she was questioned about her handbag and told she would have to lock it in a locker. We secured the bag in the car. The sales person was a bit rude and condescending. As we were walking around the place, there were several ladies with handbags as large or larger than ours. I'm sorry but this really made me angry and I feel like we were discriminated against. I don't mind following rules but they should apply to everyone. read more

My mom loves buying furniture at Sugar bear! I was dying to check the place out and buy some items for my dorm. We were immediately approached about "locking our purses up in a locker". That is quite inconvenient to not let someone bring their purse into a store. If somebody is going to steal they will find a way with or without a purse. Is this to say a woman can't bring a stroller in because it's bigger than the rectangle shown on the door? Overall I think it's a cute store but a terrible business idea to make people go back to their car or lock their purse up. read more

Ok, it's got a very good selection of items. And there is something there for everyone. It's a bit tight as the aisles are narrow. But the reason for the 1 star review is the management. They are obsessed with shoplifting and you are accused of being a shop lifter if you carry a purse in the store. They make you put it in a locker. There are hundreds of "no shoplifting" signs throughout the store. So what has happened here is someone stole something once and now they look at everyone as a thief. Not very customer friendly. We found two items we wanted to buy, but decided against it, because I didn't want to reward them for their policies. Also saw two people immediately leave when they were told they couldn't have their purse with them. So honestly they are losing business anyway. Sugar Bear is not only an excellent place to find quality antiques, it's probably the most popular & successful shoppe for antique vendors in all of Jacksonville. With 55 dealers on site, there's a long waiting list to get in here. Sugar Bear is also probably the best antique shoppe in the Jacksonville area for advertising-- its marketing is excellent. Shoppers & dealers can't go wrong here! I am a return (& return & return...) customer. Sadly for me, I've never walked out w/o spending money here. There are sales throughout the year; get on the list to receive notice of all upcoming specials. The resident clock dealer is excellent-- he refinishes vintage clocks & sells them at decent prices. Many dealers sell antique mirrors, home decor, & furniture. There's such an eclectic array of pretty much everything. Prices shoppe wide seem fair. On this visit, I located a gorgeous oil painting as well as handmade organic soap that smelled divine. (The fragrance filled the car all day & evening:) This is the one antique shoppe I never miss upon trips to the Jacksonville area. HIGHLY recommend. If you are a first time visitor, if your purse is too big, they will make you lock it up in a locker. My personal choice was to leave. If you are going to treat me like a thief upon walking in, I won't give you my business. I had a cross body and it was too big, seriously if someone wants to steal they will find a way. I gave them a 3 because as business owners it is their right to run their store how they see fit. However, it is not a good customer service practice. read more

Not my consignment store ever again. My mother and I visited today and without being told put our purses in the lockers. Finished our shopping and my mom was getting ready to check out and I went to get our purses, I needed my phone to take picture of the Bull Dog Statues that a vendor was selling (My sister runs a bulldog rescue and collect things like this). I walked down the isle to where they were and I was immediately approached and told me to put my purse back in the locker, explained to the associate what I was doing, Didn't Care. Can't stand the bigger places that are higher end (you know...fancy mirrors and headboards and furniture etc costing thousands). LOTS to look at and the prices aren't too bad for antiques! It's consignment style so it's fun to see lots of different "booths". Lots of fun to wander around and find good treasures! UPDATE: I wouldn't recommend becoming a vendor here. Their system is very dated, they don't take credit card payments for monthly rent-only cash or check which was a hassle. They also were supposed to mail out the invoice and balance due each month and I didn't get it for 3 months in a row. Then they left me a grouchy voicemail about me owing them one dollar. The staff isn't very friendly, accommodating, or honestly very kind. I was extremely disappointed in the way I was treated as a vendor. read more

Tucked away just off of San Jose in Mandarin, I spotted the red, white and blue flags of the Sugar Bear Antique Mall. How did I not know about this antique treasure trove?! This antique mall is similar to the Tin City Antique Mall further up on San Jose Rd, in that consigners have rented out booths with the hopes of showcasing and selling their antique wares. Patrons pick out their antique cache and take these items to the Owner/Cashier at the front of the establishment for purchase. The gal up front was incredibly sweet and helpful! I wish I did not have a previous appointment to get to as easily one could be in this shop looking at goodies for a couple of hours! I spent 45 minutes here and was reluctant to leave as I had only glimpsed at only a small portion of the mall. Great spot for several hours of fun antiquing!!! Note: Wheelchair or stroller accessibility may be difficult in some parts of this store as the isles are narrow. Maneuvering around some of the higher dollar antiques may not be worth the gamble. read more

A little pricey for my taste but if you look hard enough you can find some collectors booths that have really out done them selves with redoing some amazing pieces for very very reasonable prices if you like the farmhouse Johanna Gaines style definitely worth taking a look! I hadn't heard of Sugar Bear until I searched on Yelp for antique stores. I decided to stop in one rainy afternoon to see what they were about. I was greeted with cookies and snacks. A lot of the booths were hit or miss. I found a lot of "antiques" from my childhood. Keep in mind, I'm 28... So those booths managed to make me confused and feeling ancient. I did find a few things at decent prices like old steel oil cans & an old lunchbox. The prices were better than some of the other local antique stores, but they're still pricy in my opinion. read more

There's a lot of junk piled up at the entrance which isn't very inviting. The interior is packed to the rafters which is a good thing for an antique store. Love this place! Thousands of antiques found in hundreds of booths. Large assortment of antiques covering MANY genres & eras. There are weekly specials offered. There were three older female employees at the counter, & all were friendly & professional. There were at least two other employees walking the floor, both extremely helpful. Service was exceptional-- better than any offered at other antique malls! The grandfather wall clocks sold here are by a man who has been in the clock business for decades; he buys them, repairs them, & sells them at a decent price. The variety of items sold at this antique mall & the service are exceptional. And the mall is clean & very well organized. Great help from the older guy but I had a terrible experience and won't go back. The manager lady wouldn't get off her phone long enough to take my 100 purchase. If I'm spending my money, I expect to be treated with respect. I had questions I wanted to ask her but she couldn't be bothered enough to even talk to me. At the end of the transaction she wanted to tell me about her husband and that he was going through his second childhood because he wanted to buy a motor scooter. Her personal life was more important than helping a customer. read more
