Great University, higher standards than most universities yet you will get a great education above and beyond; this University ranks among those such as Harvard, MIT yet at a more reasonable cost. The University has a fantastic Law School as well! Highly recommend this great University for it's affordability, it's location, and it's great staff of amazing professors. read more

I used to write a 5-star review in 2022 and removed it after three months, because I genuinely believed this institution, despite many flaws, had good intentions and was trying to support students. Unfortunately, after spending more time here, I've realized that most of the so-called support is just empty words. They say they care, they say they're here to help but in practice, it's superficial at best. The systems are confusing, staff can be dismissive, and getting meaningful assistance feels like pulling teeth. It's frustrating to see the student services are more about appearance than actual care. read more

This is such a terrible school. The RAM account and student service centers is so rude. I got yelled at and discriminated against by Antonietta Lebba. Harassed me on the phone many times. There wasn't enough investment in the biology department. Professors were somewhat supportive. But I did appreciated the location. read more

Suffolk is too expensive, the food is bad and expensive and can't even get into classes needed.

Pros: some of the classes are interesting some of the professors are nice Cons: Rude, sarcastic, and really dumb staff(asked if I wanted a meeting @ 11 am or pm) They tried to get my parents to pay for the whole semester. After proving without a doubt that we owned them nothing, when my mom called to make sure that was the case, as they've done may shade things they lady she speaking to snapped at her and asked sarcastically if we like better than a $0 balance, which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. They don't take Covid-19 serious enough and tried to force me to go on campus even after I told them my mom has a weak immune system and my dad is building his up after two rounds of cancer. One of the professors suggested that I was using my busying life schedule of running a business, taking care of my parent's health issue and 3 dogs as an excuse not to do work simply because of my age. Suffolk told me they would offer programs (ex.book vouchers, etc.) before I applied and after I did they were "no longer available" or no one would answer my emails/calls. Ignore students, and sometimes even my parents was something that happened a lot while I was at Suffolk. A lot of the staff don't know their job, I spent an hour on the phone with the director of a department telling me"umm, I don't know " the WHOLE HOUR! That same department made me buy a program for $145 then told me after I bought it that I didn't have to, they also couldn't tell me how the program worked even though they had been using it for "years". This wouldn't have happened if they had just answered my emails but the person I was emailing "busy" which I only found out from calling a few times. This school is way too expensive, they pressure students way beyond what is necessary or what the student is capable of, they also have no "green space" for students to chill out. read more

Well, I went there for my MBA and I think Suffolk provided me many useful stuffs. I think it now focuses on going international. They have campus in Spain and Senegal which you can take classes there and learn new cultures and ppl. Also the class tends to be small and that allows students to participate better. The program itself is great and offer many interesting topics. read more

As a Suffolk Alumni I can say that Suffolk achieves academic excellence. If you're looking for a unique experience I Suffolk may be just for you as they offer opportunities to study abroad and small class sizes which at least for me made a big difference in regards to my learning. The college of liberal arts offered many training career opportunities/events that I found most helpful when attending there, I even had the chance to study abroad in Japan. Highly recommend! read more

I'm going to have to whole-heartedly agree with Vietnam L. I earned a great education here and the faculty was really amazing. I am in contact with a few professors who have been very gracious in offering letters of recommendation and just to check in...which is very unique. I have to say though- I made a lot of friends through NESAD, so maybe take some classes there if you want to hang out with some good folk. Plus the campus is smack-dab in the middle of Boston- which for a history major like myself was pretty amazing. read more

When I entered Suffolk, back in the late 60s, the tuition was $800 a year. Quite a bargain eh? Today I notice it is around $60,000 according to U. S. News and World Report... Hmmm, does that make my Suffolk degree that much more valuable? read more

Compared to the numbskull administration of Salem State, Suffolk is definitely worth the extra thousands of dollars you will shell out. Trust me. I transferred as an UG back in 2008, graduated in 2011, and am back at it again to graduate with a Master's in 2014. The professors are very knowledgable, the campus is smack dab in the heart of Boston, I have never had a problem picking classes (as I did when I was at SSU), I have never had a problem with financial aid, the bursar, or anyone. The price tag is a bit steep, and keeps creeping (hence why I am completing post-Master's courses online at $600 a pop at UCLA instead of $2700 a pop here!!!!!!), but overall quality of education--I am a fan and I will hang both of my degrees proudly. read more

2011 - This is an underrated school! I love to study here! I will graduate at this school in 2014 with double major on Finance and Global Business. 2017 - Updated: 6 years later, I graduated from Suffolk undergrad as the highest honor student (valedictorian) in 2014, and from Suffolk Graduate School in 2016. I'll move to Asia to start a new exciting career, in early February. I will see you in a 10 years class reunion. P.S: I love the school because I had a full scholarship to pursuit my higher education. Nevertheless, universities in general are super expensive now. I doubt any university will worthwhile your investment. Blame on all morons who took out a shit ton of debts pushing the tuition up and up. read more

I can't say enough good things about Suffolk. I'm a recent graduate of the undergrad English/Creative Writing program in the College of Arts and Sciences, a hidden gem amongst the other liberal arts colleges around Boston, and I cannot be happier that I attended this university. I never met a professor I disliked. Even my gen ed professors were approachable, kind, and available. Each and every professor I encountered genuinely cares about the students. Some in particular even offered to take time out of their busy schedules to read my creative works outside of class and to help me with my graduate school applications after I graduated. The professors weren't the only amazing people here. From the staff in the bursar's office to the assistant dean, the university employees all contributed to my amazing experience. So long as you treat everyone with respect, they do their best to try and help you. There is a great community feel to this school. If you do go to the school, I definitely recommend getting involved. That's how I met all of my friends and future roommates when I was a commuter student, and that's how I had the most fun. This school was the key factor in my decision to work in college administration as a career. Eight months after graduation, and I have a job in this field lined up. I also got a job within four months of graduating. This school is definitely worth it. read more

This place has a crummy disorganized program. there are no dorms, so i had to commute every day which became expensive after i spent all my money just getting in. And when i got here i found out the program was so scattered (at least the interior design program) that i had to transfer after my first semester. I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Im a Undergrad at Suffolk and I think the social life here is pretty average. Although Suffolk is a commuter school... it definitely isnt the traditional commuter school. The only reason most people are forced to live off-campus is because suffolk has very limited housing, therefore, the people who are shafted end up living in off campus apartments which in some cases are closer to the school buildings than the dorms. (a friend of mine on Beacon Hill can get to his classes in five minutes... while it takes me ten) So while it is a "commuter campus" most of the commuters have apartments on Beacon Hill or the North End. This being said, while suffolk isnt a "traditional" party school. With frat houses and greek keggers, suffolk does have a lot of great parties, but most of them are in off campus apartments, you just have to get out and not sit around the dorms to find them. As far as academics go. Suffolk is great. You'll get a good education. However, it isnt worth the money if you get into Emerson right down the street. Unless this is the best school you can get into, or they give you tons of financial aid, it's overpriced. It costs just as much to go to Emerson and they have nicer buildings and better internships. I hate to say its all about the money,.... but in this case it has some relevance. I'm a freshman taking a 300 level course and its barely challenging, so for the average joe who just wants his degree,.... suffolk is great. But if you really want to be challenged... like I said... Emerson is right down the street. Oh... and none of this applies to those poor souls in the NESAD program. because you will most definitely be challenged.. but you wont have time for a social life. read more

If it weren't for the excellent professors, I would give this institution zero stars. I just finished my freshman year here, and I will not be returning for the Fall semester. Instead, I've transferred to UMass Boston where I will recieve an identical education for about $18,000 less. I'm sure that if I went to one of the colleges that Suffolk is known for, such as the Law School or Business School, then I would be singing a different tune, but I went here last minute decision for a BA in Psychology. Like I said, I loved my professors. Most were hilarious, laid-back, and incredibly knowledgable of their fields. It is truly evident that they love what they teach. However, I hated this school because of my fellow classmates. Suffolk is a school that yuppy kids turn to when they can't make the grades to get into Northeastern or BU. Yet they still want to be city folk, so they go to Suffolk. So in the end, you've got a bunch of moronic, shallow, rich kids running around with no aspirations outside of this weekend's blackout. For my first semester, I lived in 150 Tremont and realized after a couple weeks that I had not had a single intellectually stimulating conversation. My life got so caught up in nasty, senseless drama that I got my ass out of there and moved into the school's floors in the Holiday Inn. Two stars for the academics, no stars for the student body. Go here if you're orange, rich, and narcisstic. read more

Don't waste your money. They don't support their graduates and you are basically on your own as far as finding co-ops or jobs. The professors are great and all that but there is litle difference in being a graduate of Suffolk compared to say, UMass Boston, other than the enormous bill you'll have when you're done. And if you want some practical advice, if you're Suffolk level bound, go to a community college for 2 years to save money. read more

6 years at this joke of a school didn't prepare me and several of my school mates for anything in the field. The staff is great but the administration knows nothing about the business world. Currently an undergrad here and so far, it's okay. I don't hate it and I don't love it. The professors here can be outstanding though-- you just have to know who to look.. so ask your friends about their experiences with so and so and base your selections from them. No social life whatsoever-- it's a commuter school, but hey, I'm not complaining. I'm not into the whole "greek life" and "dorm-parties" anyways.. sure, you'll meet some really superficial, arrogant b---- but there are also some really nice, genuine, and SMART people as well. C'mon, no place is "perfect" with "perfect" people.. if you're going to immense yourself into a place where people come from all over the place, you're bound to meet a "diverse" group of people whether they'll be "good" or "bad". As for the committee.. Financial Aid/Bursar/blah blah.. I've had nothing but great service from them. They all try their best to answer your questions and get you what you need. I had a bit trouble financing the tuition and they actually gave me an extra which I'm extremely grateful for. Thank you, btw!! read more

I'm a 2000 graduate with a BS in Biology. I had a fantastic experience. For an undergraduate program - the biology department is outstanding. Dedicated faculty and small classes make for a world class education. It doesn't have the fancy labs or super modern space, but it's perfect, and just what it needs to be. (I returned last year to speak and was not too surprised to see that nothing changed since I left!). My other classes were great, really interesting. I feel like I received a nice, well-rounded liberal arts education. And was well prepared when I applied to Dental School several years later. It's funny to read current reviews about it being a "commuter school" - my freshman year was the first year Suffolk had a dorm, and it felt like the tide was turning and it was going to be more of a residential school. I'm grateful for the great education I received, at a reasonable price. PROS: great faculty, down-to-earth students, great location CONS: doesn't have the "big name" read more

I'm a graduate student at Suffolk and I love it. My classes are pretty small, professors are good, and I love being on Beacon Hill. I'd give it 5 stars, but the price knocks it down a bit for me. Plus, the Bursar's Office blows -- they are an antagonistic den of thieves. read more

the location is beautiful, and some of the professors are really amazing. But the students are awful. Half of them are really spoiled, loud and dumb... the other half are foreign students who only talk to people from their country, which is super awkward. I think its weird that no one mentions just how many foreign students attend here. nonetheless, they do ofer a lot of opportunities for travel with habitat for humanity, the program in madrid, etc. But on the other hand, the dorm rooms are miserable. The walls of the dorm rooms on Tremont st are paper thin so you can hear busy street traffic at night, there was a weird rash spreading in the womens dorm room showers, and i got food poisoning twice from the cafeteria. so, overall the school is okay, but there are some serious problems with it which makes it definitely not worth the price. read more

I've had a great time at Suffolk University and already have my job lined up after graduation. The biggest reason for that is professors here have a lot of professional work experience and take their time to get to know their students. I've been out of the Marine Corps for about a year now, and I can't imagine having a college experience. Thanks Suffolk!!! read more

This review only pertains to the Graphic Design Certificate program at NESAD...If you are considering Suffolk, I advise you strongly to look elsewhere. The GD Certificate program is for people "who have some prior college-level background and/or significant employment experience in a related field." Those of us in this category don't have a degree in graphics (I have a BA & an Assoc. but not in GD) and have learned it on our own and have our own clients. We are seeking the formal foundation that this certificate provides. We are also paying our own tuition as we continue to pay our bills! My experience with Suffolk (NESAD) was not worth my time or money. I found the school to be completely unorganized and catering to the 19 year olds (many foreign) who attended. The front desk was manned by students & it was absolutely hit or miss if they knew the answer to my questions. When calling the main Suffolk #, to get transferred to a department at NESAD or to even find out WHO was the correct person to answer my specific questions was torture & took ~ 30 IF I got anyone. Working on projects at school was necessary and reliance on the posted available hours of classrooms is VITAL. More than once, I was working with ALL of my paint, collages, etc. and a professor just showed up with a class and said that I had to leave, offering NO substitute workspace or reason. Because there is NO standard of behavior or enforcement of rules of proper usage, classrooms that were available were often occupied with students yelling, talking with their phones on speaker or playing music loudly. It was always a challenge to do any work undistracted by the inconsideration or bad behavior of other students. I had such high hopes for Suffolk but the catering of the faculty to the immaturity of the student body made it nearly impossible to learn. In one class, a professor spent more time chatting with the students than teaching. I honestly could have saved the $1000+ and gotten more instruction from youtube! Definitely NOT worth my hard earned money...Go somewhere else!!! read more

First and foremost, you must take Suffolk for what it is: an up-scale commuter school. Though you may be dismissed by this idea, most commuter schools are phenomenal. Education wise alone, Suffolk is worthy of 5 stars. The classes are small, the professors (for the most part) LOVE their profession and are willing to help you if you want to make the effort. I have had professors there that provide you with their home phone number in order for you to reach them at any time. If that isn't fantastic teaching, well, I don't know what is. Suffolk does have its drawbacks though. I never lived on campus, I have an apartment; when talking to those who lived on campus it is somewhat disappointing. There are relatively no "crazy campus parties." That does not mean that there are no parties altogether. You just have to take the time to get to know people with places of their own, should that be the atmosphere that you are seeking. Many of the students come off as arrogant morons. Again, take them for what they are. There are also some marvelous friends that you will meet at Suffolk who are in the same boat that you are. All-in-all, I can't complain with what Suffolk has delivered. As with any university, there are pros and cons. If it is a real quality education you desire in a remarkable location: Suffolk all the way. read more

I graduated in 2009, and with out my Suffolk University education, I wouldn't be where I am today. I am a huge advocate, not solely based on my academic experience, but the confidence and drive the university bestowed upon me. I never enjoyed going to school as a kid, didn't make great marks when I was in high school, and luckily was accepted to S.U. There, I fell in love with learning. I figured out what I was passionate about, double majored and played a varsity sport. My Professors were nothing short of amazing, and they pushed and inspired me. Now, I am a graduate student at an Ivy League Institution, working towards my goals and aspirations. With out Suffolk and the support given to me, I would not have accomplished half of what I've done up until now. Suffolk is a university where you have to work hard and make it your own and I would do it all over again if given the chance. read more

Notice how many of the GOOD ratings are undergrads who haven't actually finished their degree yet? I got a graduate degree in Crime and Justice Studies. The education itself was about 3 stars. The professors were either excellent or terrible. It seemed to depend primarily on whether they actually had ANY experience in what they were teaching, or just had spent a lot of time in the Ivory Tower of education. However, the PC administrators decided AFTER I was accepted to change the name from "Criminal Justice" to Crime and Justice Studies to make it sound friendlier. Please understand that NONE of the classes changed. The result is, I cannot get a job in ANY of the fields I had intended which specifically require CJ degrees. There is NO assistance available for job hunting or internships. Also, now that I have a graduate degree I am "overqualified" for the job I had been doing. So I am now 100k in debt to spend 18 months working part time at a job that requires a high school diploma and barely able to pay my rent. Thanks Suffolk - there go my dreams of owning my own house and being out of debt some time in my life. You now rank as the WORST mistake I've ever made in my life. read more

If you are planning to attend Suffolk, I would recommend choosing the right professors who don't just teach the materials, but also consider your personal situations and is available to you even after class. Professors at Suffolk are mostly nice and considerate to students. The reason why Suffolk is a good and worthy school to go to is because of its wonderful staff. And most staff members are there to help students during their office hours after class. Students would have all the resources they need to become successful in class. The class professors that I strongly recommend taking class with are professor Bhatia and professor Valdes Greenwood. read more

I attended Suffolk University because it looked like it would be a great school and I really liked the tour that they gave which basically only showed the nicest of the classrooms and then they take you to the top floor of their most prestigious residence hall and make it seem like all the rooms are like that. This is not the case. The school is so ridiculously overpriced. When all is said and done, it costs over 40 grand a year to go here. You could go to community college and pay 3 grand a year and get the same education that you get at Suffolk. I have met some great professors but some are completely full of themselves and arrogant. There miller dorm is nice, the 10 west dorm is nice too, however the 150 Tremont dorm sucks. My room is really nice, but the building itself is awful. The cost to live here is 14,000 per year. That does not include the summer months June through August or the month you have off for Christmas. Then when you count all the breaks like Thaksgiving and Spring Break that they boot you out for, you actually only live there for about 7 months out of the year, which means you pay an average of 2,000 a month to live in a tiny dorm room without a private bathroom that you share with 1 or 2 other people. I was shocked when I did the math. That could get you a really decent apartment in the city. You'd expect everything to be high end for that price. NOPE! the bathrooms are hardly ever cleaned, and when they are theyre not done well. The whole building smells and when something breaks it takes them a good 2 weeks to get around to fixing it like the elevators which suck to begin with. There is no school spirit whatsoever. As soon as you leave the dorm, you have no idea who anyone is. It is very hard to meet people here. The escort program sucks. They will not drive you anywhere late at night, which other schools in the area do. The food here is so incredibly nauseating, I cannot eat it. I have to go and buy food, which is a waste of money because they force you to have a meal plan if you live there. The school might be somewhat worth it if they chopped the price in half, but all around it sucks, and I will not be attending next year. Most of the kids on my floor are not returning next year either. The school is made up mostly of the people who did not get into Northeastern or BU. read more

i graduated from suffolk university in 1957 and it provided an outstanding education if you wanted it. i majored in english and the english professors took no prisoners. in particular i remember dr. hanay (i hope i spelled his name correctly after 50+ years), but they were all wonderful. i believe there were five professos full time and four were phds. if english was your major the professors knew you by name; there were only about fifteen in a class. as a result i taught in public school, was employed by mitre corp in massachusetts and colorado, was assistant to the anahiem ca. city manager, and i was a sr. business mgr at t r w and hughes aerospace working in planning on major satellte programs and projects. all this is indicative of the value of a suffolk education i found out that the proper use of the english language is an unknown discipline in must work environments so i always had leverage wher ever i went. and, by the way, tuition was $475 per year when i was at suffolk! whats not to like read more
