I first tried Subway in Vancouver, Canada. In fact I was a regular there, though rather pulled towards Quornos subs on my second visit Back here I found the shops looked the same, but was a little disappointed when I went into one and they heated my sub, including lettuce No guys, you heat it before you put the lettuce in!
Well, this one they did get that right adding the salad only after heating the other ingredients. Points there!
This is a little branch, and when I arrived there was only one person who appeared to be running the whole show, including baking bread as he served. Just a couple of people ahead of me, but, of course, number one turned out to be the guy ordering for the whole office, and being pretty indecisive about it. With all the opportunities for choice, Subway is perhaps not the best place for one person to try and get everyone's sandwiches right. The single server looked stressed but kept his calm as this went on for what seemed like half an hour.
Finally he was finished, server sorted him at the till and turned to the next customer, who'd been patiently waiting in front of me. Customer asks what the sub of the day is. Is told tuna. Say he doesn't want it and leaves. Me and server's jaws drop. It's on notices all over the place, why didn't he check rather than waiting? Maybe he couldn't read.
Anyway, then it was my turn, and I did want the tuna. (I'm always tempted by the meatball marinara, but after a recent TV program that said that's the unhealthiest sandwich you can buy.). I managed to resist cheese but not some probably fat-laden sauce. Note: you can get subs with under 5g of fat, but that's not including cheese and sauce The serviettes included fuller details, including saturate levels, again without cheese and sauce
Just as I left another server turned up. I guess she'd been on break.
Anyway, nice and fresh, options to be more or less healthy, and a patient server. It doesn't taste quite as good as in Vancouver, but maybe that's just my imagination read more
