Coffee is well made, using organic fair-trade beans from nearby Maleny, likewise milk is from the independently owned Maleny dairies. Smashed avocado on organic sourdough, comes with a wedge of lemon and small offering of Feta; Sonoma toasted muesli a perfect kick-starter, adorned with blueberries, strawberries, grated apple and chopped mint. A lovely eclectic setting, airy and light-filled with nice beach-side vibe music (fat Freddie's/john Butler etc) and enough healthy smoothies on the menu to entice a range of hippies, hipsters and gym bunnies, I'd say they've got their clientele covered. Food was big and delicious - I had the field mushrooms (this is a massive meal folks, don't be fooled by the fact there's no meat in it that your stomach may not be sufficiently filled!). Boy had the chicken Turkish sandwich - equally massive/delicious and well worth the $16. We walked away well caffeinated and properly full, I would totally recommend this place!

The hubby ordered the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, & tomato) with a fried egg on a soft focaccia/panini like bread. After one bite, the yolk of his fried egg oozed out like a real bleeder; well done Canteen. He wolfed down his sandwich within 5 minutes and said it was "super yummy". I got the beet salad with baby spinach, ricotta and walnuts. Simple yet so good with the shredded beets and onions. It's a satisfying salad. Hubby doesn't normally eat greens but he cleaned up the rest of my salad too. It was a great meal. Definitely stop by this cute cafe if you're in the area.

Their slow roasted mushrooms and grilled haloumi was delicious!! The mushrooms were perfectly soft and juicy; paired beautifully with the sweet and salty haloumi. Their griddle cakes might be the best I've ever had! Similar to corn fritters, the griddle cakes are packed with juicy sweet corn and a mild heat of jalapeño. Accompanied with all your favourite breakfast sides: crispy bacon, creamy smashed avo and juicy roasted cherry tomatoes- this dish will satisfy your brunch cravings. Finished off with a harrisa aioli, the creamy and spicy sauce adds a flavourful kick to the dish.

I was immediately drawn to their swiss cheese stall as having lived in Switzerland for several years, was missing my favourite staple cheeses from this time. Fromart actually supplied the real deal and for those first few months after discovery we would jaunt down to the markets to pick up a range of cheeses from mild Tilsit through to my absolute favourite, Appenzeller. Alas one sad Sunday morning we rocked up to find the stall missing. Fortunately a google search soon after directed us to their website and we've been happy mail delivery customers ever since. Both the imported and domestically made cheeses of Christian are exceptional. If you are used to the bland supermarket varieties of cheese you will find a world open up to you like no other food experience. There is a depth of flavour and kaleidoscope of taste sensations to these fine cheeses that leaves one wanting to come back time and time again. Christian's cheeses range in price from $45 - $50 a kilo but can be bought in 500g lots. The cheese is then generally cut into 200-250g blocks which you can choose to have either wrapped in cheese paper or vacuum packed. It is delivered well cooled once a week, for those of us in Brisbane, on a Wednesday morning. I would recommend starting with some of the sample packs if this kind of cheese is a new experience. They offer taster packs for less than $20 to $47 which are a great introduction. (Personally I love my Jura Mountain, Swiss Appenzell and Gruyere Classic. Christian's own Devils Foot Cheese is also superb.) Although postage of $15- $25 is a bit extra on top of the cost of the cheese, we find buying every 2 months or so keeps it in check and still very affordable. Yes it is more expensive than buying cheese at Woolies or Coles, but I can assure you that once you try this incredible cheese, you will find it worth every cent of price difference.
