After looking over a few reviews I found that a few of them came from Americans like myself and if I know anything about Americans on Yelp, they can be overly critical. Now I love supporting small businesses and I'm glad I did! Picnic Box is run by a sweet older couple cooking a prepping meals to order. As it was my first breakfast here in the UK I wanted to try a good ol English Breakfast. I got the smaller one: bacon, egg, sausage, beans and toast. I did not regret it. Now I've never had an English breakfast but I do know what good food taste like and it was great. I also ordered an iced latte no sugar added and it was made with one of those all-in-one machines and it was pretty good too. No complaints. I also order a tomato and cheese panini but I'll let you all know what that's like later. It does look delicious. Overall cost of my meal £10.10 and worth every penny. Overall I highly recommend supporting this business.

It was, ironically, the English Fish and Chips that were it's key strength rather than the Chinese cuisine, with perhaps the best Fish and Chips option in the area at the time! The Chinese cuisine was also good quality. Following the change in management both the English Fish and Chips and the Chinese cuisine are still of a reasonable standard but nowhere near as good as it was. We usually stick to chips, sausages, curry, gravy as a quick tea or late night supper option-the fish and steak puddings are not great. Alternatively the salt and pepper chips are good and the hot and sour soup is reasonably tasty. The Chinese cuisine often seems to be tainted with strong ingredients that you would't expect for the chosen dish-e.g. the Beef and Mushrooms often taste of garlic or fish suggesting dishes are cooked in the same oil perhaps. Service is usually quick and efficient and prices are reasonable with average take away prices. Yu's Garden is on bigfoodie.co.uk but we prefer to collect the orders-calling ahead sometimes to order the food. The opening times are quite good, opening till 23:30 weekdays-note closed on Tuesdays-and later on weekend nights. If the management can improve the quality of the Chinese cuisine and the fish and steak puddings this would make the Yu's Garden a much more attractive option however as it currently stands there are better Chinese takeaway and Fish & Chip shops in the area and so we would only use occasionally-usually when looking for late night supper options.

I have certain allergies and dietary requirements, so I'm always very careful when ordering food…read more I've ordered food from here twice before, and was assured that the chips were vegetarian and were not cooked in animal fat or cooked in the same oil as meat products. However, the last time I went in to buy food left me feeling angry and upset. I always double check when I order food, and after asking the server if the chips were definitely vegetarian, I was told they were not. Apparently they are cooked in the same oil as pork, and have never been vegetarian. I am appalled that I have previously been lied to about this, and felt very ill upon learning that I had eaten animal products without my knowledge. I am just grateful that none of my allergies were affected, but I certainly won't be chancing that again. Please be very careful if you choose to eat here if you suffer from any kind of food allergy or don't eat certain foods. It's a big health and safety issue as well as affecting customers' ethics. This experience has left me very upset and I hope the restaurant will be more honest with its customers in future.

It was bad enough some of what we ordered was missing and then we started eating it we were glad it was missing. The chips were dry and tasted like they were a day old warmed up. The fish is always top quality and fresh. They will do a one-dip of batter if you're watching your figure and they'll do gluten free batter if you need. It's far better priced than the tourist chippies on the sea front. They'll also do a telephone order for you. Really helpful people, fast service and great food!
