Being able to seat yourself is nice, because then you don't have to wait on someone to seat you, and our drink order was immediately taken. After yapping for a while, we ordered two Open Faced Turkey Sandwiches w/ Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, a French Dip w/ Onion rings and a Half Rack of Ribs with Loaded Mashed Potatoes. Our food arrived relatively quickly actually, but unfortunately, it wasn't very warm. The mashed potatoes on both turkey dinners were cold, and had to be sent back to be warmed up (which I'm pretty sure they just did it in the microwave.) My mashed potatoes with my ribs were also cold, but I ate them anyways because I didn't want to have to send every plate back. I felt bad for them. The beef on the French dip looked dry and kind of old, but the onion rings were amazing. The ribs were amazing, falling off the bone tender and super flavorful. It really is unfortunate that everybody's mashed potatoes were cold. Once they were kind of heated up, everything was pretty good though. The waitresses were all super nice even after we had to send food back, so I'm glad they at least had good attitudes and weren't mean to us afterwards. One unique thing I think is really cool about this place is they have a salad bar that is included in some of the dinners! Although it was not included in my rib dinner, so I didn't go and look at it. The restaurant itself was quiet with just the faint sound of casino machines in the background, and a few rowdy guys who showed up in big trucks and were yelling at each other through the windows. All in all, it wasn't too bad and I would probably try it again, but they really do need to heat up those mashed potatoes better.

I have celiac disease, so eating safely while traveling can be difficult. I ordered the breakfast bagel to enjoy right away and a turkey bagel sandwich to take with us for lunch. Both were absolutely amazing! They took special care to use gluten-free bagels and clean the surfaces before preparing my food, which I truly appreciated. It was such a relief to find a place that not only had delicious gluten-free options but also took my celiac needs seriously. Everything was fresh and delicious, and it made our long drive home that much better. I felt a sense of warmth and nostalgia and reverence for the history of the only watering hole... only business really, in this tiny town, 30 miles from a paved road. A group of friends and I went to Winnemucca to do some desert riding. I am a map nerd was scouting for rides and happened to find Midas Bighorn Saloon looking for destinations to ride to. The Yelp reviews were great so it seemed like it was worth the trip. Little did we know it was a little beyond the range of our side by sides for a round trip and there was no other gas around. We got to Midas with just barely over half a tank of fuel, not enough to get back to Winnemucca with a margin of comfort. We're welcomed into the bar by owner Paige and some locals. They were a little skeptical of us (rightly so) after they heard we were from California but after a few jokes I have never felt more welcome. Paige was a fantastic host full of wonderful history of Nevada gold mining (a career miner himself) as well as the history of Midas and the bar. My beer never ran dry and they were the coldest beers around. Paige heard about our adventure and offered to give us fuel if we returned with his cans full. Of course we did and brought more fuel for ourselves so we could comfortably get back to Winnemucca the second time. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I had a fantastic time. I only drank beer but Paige had a full bar. The artifacts on the wall could keep you busy for hours and there's a porch and patio if you want to sit outside. Bring your own food! As of our trip the kitchen was not open. The bathrooms are also nice and clean. There's a TouchTunes juke box on the wall and Paige can even accept credit cards. I will 100% be returning again and I've told everyone I know who does desert riding or overlanding to make Midas Bighorn Saloon a destination. Oh yea, the beer prices were fantastic!
