The engine was erratic, dropping down in speed suddenly at full throttle and increasing speed when moving slowly. The young guy who set us up didn't mention some key things such as location of anchor (which was so far down in the hill as to require a long reach, not visible when the hatch was opened) , life jackets, depth-finder use, etc. I would use another boat rental next time.

The Jet Skis were in great shape and worked like a charm. I loved it so much that I actually rode them on 2 different days of my vacation and it was worth every dollar. There wasn't a question he couldn't answer, despite his youth. He handled everything for us, since we were inexperienced, unless we wanted to do it ourselves. He thoroughly knows the island waters. My only complain was that he would smoke briefly during transit, which was hard since we had some motion sickness. But I would hire him again.

We went in and got some amazing pictures. Then a rude person who called himself the Executive Assistant of the Director came out and basically accused us of trespassing. He treated us as if we were interlopers and made it clear that no one can come in unless they are part of an institution and we were not welcome there. We would never have come in if we weren't invited. We're an older couple and didn't deserve to be treated so rudely. We've passed the building a lot of times and now will think of this rude individual and look away in the future.

But since this isn't Monte Carlo, I suppose the Bolivar version of a yacht would be a rusty old shrimp boat or a twin outboard offshore boat. This is a good place to launch from for fishing excursions to both the bay and gulf. From here you can access most of the main fishing holes relatively easily. Also, if you intend to fish the jetties or rigs, this is about the closest bait camp to those areas. In terms of bait, they usually have a decent selection for a fair price. You can always find some dead bait if they are out of live bait. However, BYB does lose a star since I have been here a few times when there is little bait to be found, which can be inconvenient. BYB also has a deck with chairs and a hammock to rehash (exaggerate) the day's fishing conquests. It's also a good place to wait out a thunder storm, which is what I am doing now. Well, it looks like the sky may be clearing up now, so I should get back on the water.
