Submelt seems to market itself as a bit of a poor man's Subway (the thought makes me shudder), with meal deals and marketing eerily similar to that used by the sandwich chain, but in actuality really shouldn't feel the need. Where Subway's sandwiches are greasy, soggy, overpoweringly spiced and full of additives, the simple baguettes and salads here use decent ingredients and taste pretty good. The shop sits in amongst several takeaway/cafe type outlets and is always busy, even when the others are quite. While this is a good indicator of the quality of the food, it also means you're unlikely to get one of the few seats so it's best to get your food to take away - unless cosying up to rather grimy workmen floats your boat. read more
