    under construction
    Isao S.

I suddenly think Stuttgart central station. Well, when I visited here, that time was on December, 2019. At that time, the station was still under construction, and I wondered if the station finished its construction. According to the bulletin board at the station when I visited to, the construction was called "Stuttgart 21", and the project was supposed to finish at 2021. Because of pandemic, I couldn't go to Germany during two years, and after three years, this year, I can't go to it as usual. So, I think what the station become now, and I want to check it by internet. The construction is continuing now. When I visited here, it was under construction, so there are only a few shops and restaurant were open in the station. And now, it isn't complete yet. Maybe, it is inconvenient for users. According to homepage of station, the complete' year will be 2025. It's terrible:).

    Underground in the Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof

Big enough for a medium sized city, the Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is the main station for the city and is the central hub for the S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks. There is a serious amount of construction going on but the signage was good enough to get from the U12 stop through the underground section and to the regional platforms. The station is currently built as a "terminus" and they're working to build new platforms and rails to make it into a "through" station. That's going to be a few more years of digging and detours. There are display screens through out the station but, I bought my ticket online and was reminded of the platform ("Gleise" is track") and train section to look for. Most signs, even the temporary ones, in German and English. At the platform, another display indicating the train destination and stops. Restaurants, coffee shops and some other small shops in the station. I don't know if there are elevators everywhere but I was able to find escalators for most spots which is certainly helpful with luggage. Overall, a positive experience. Someone needs to get to work on this nightmare of a train station. I'm told it's been under refurbishment for the last 10 years. Sidewalks all around are uneven, making for hazardous conditions just trying to get to your train. Arriving here is much easier than leaving.

Trains coming and going all the time! My kid would love this

Despite heavy construction, the team made it through to the connecting train. Staff helped change tickets and guide us the right direction. Super helpful german signs are easily visible despite it already being a bit dark. The station and trains are very safe, with guards always patrolling and helping where needed. Missing one star due to the dirty ness and lackluster selection of travel foods. Slightly boring building in itself, but super convenient layout. My team especially like the 'pick-ups' from Leibnitz in the Selecta machine. Sucks you can't pay with bills, only coins though...

Currently undergoing a massive renovation project, Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is almost a building site, with only the platforms, and a long tunnel to the amenities accessible. The station has the usual: Starbucks, Nordsee, etc. The S and U-Bahn are accessible underground, and it doesn't matter which escalators one takes, they all lead to the same area. To get away from the station, it is likely one has to take the S or U Bahn as the only things that are nearby that are walking distance due to the Autobahn is Schlossplatz and shopping precinct, but they are beautiful and worth a visit.

it is a big fat construction site. And not easy to navigate if you don't know were to go already.

Main station in Stuttgart. This is the hub of all busses, intercity trains, and even ICE trains.
