I went to my parents' house afterward, and my mom gasped, "That is a REALLY nice cut." I have also had her straighten my wavy hair and it still had a ton of body, despite using the flat iron on it. The downside is that the cuts were a bit pricy for my budget, and I like it when stylists take a bit longer. More recently, I was going to Sharon when I was in Ottawa. Sharon is young, hip, and often has crazy hair, but never did anything wild to me at all (I was a grad student and wanted low-maintenance hair). Usually I would tell her in vague terms what I wanted, but once I had a picture... and forgot it at home. Somehow she still figured out exactly what I wanted, and it was perfect. This is the biggest Chatters in Ottawa, and I believe it was the first one to open. They have a lot of hair products and they have frequent sales where I have literally bought salon shampoo, conditioner and styling products for less than drug store brands. They also have a good selection of false eyelashes, including the new magnetic eyeliner to use with magnetic lashes. And it's the legit Ardell brand, not some sketchy brand where the ingredients aren't even listed on the packaging (yeah, I'm looking at you, Showcase). They also carry the Ardell magnetic eyeliner alone, and not just the kit with the lashes, in case you already have the lashes and just want the eyeliner (most stores like Rexall or Sally Beauty Supply sell only the kit). They carry nail products as well. Staff are super nice and always willing to help you find stuff. This location is in The Ottawa Trainyards. It's in the section where Starbucks, Cleo and Ricki's is. Currently, they are moving to their new location at 130 Pitt street, and I had the opportunity to take my daughter there because she won a contest to have her hair and makeup done for her prom. The setting looks very promising, with sleek, new furniture, sliding mirrors along either side of the establishment, and a nice trendy brick interior (just like a loft, except on the ground floor.) Bathrooms were good, floor space is large and airy, and there will be a lot of stations, which means more ability to get an appointment in. They did a great job on my daughter's hair, which is very very long, curly, and thick. They essentially did a blowout, followed by a coiled curl hairdo, which was then put into a half-up, half-down formal style. It was feminine and in style, and it held very well -- from early morning, when it was done, until the middle of the night, when she came home. The makeup job was great as well, done by a woman who has MAC training and experience. My daughter is a woman of color, and a good measure of a makeup artist is whether or not they can match foundation skintones to people who aren't white or who have unusual undertones. She hand-mixed foundations and ended up with a perfect match. It's the little things like this which can really make or break a makeup artist. I recommend this place. The staff was very personable and skilled, and the place is going to end up very nice once all the construction is finished.
