This summer is the summer of library visits. because of the LA Public Library Stamps, I have been on a mission to collect as many library stamps as I can. This is a cute library with a small parking lot attached. Staff is friendly. There's usually a cart of free books to take at the entrance. My usual local library (North Hollywood) was recently closed for maintenance so I had a few holds sent to this library for pick up. I have been to most of the libraries in the LA COUNTY system. I like them all, but something about the Studio City Library always does it for me. I go their pretty frequently, but not that often. It is close to home and when I need to get some work done of any kind, I need peace and quiet; since you can't do much at home. Too much distraction from neighbors and every day life. I need to address some highlights to certain things that gets my attention. First and foremost, I would like to describe the beauty of the architecture of this building. It is very well curated in a very unique way with white, beautiful flowers all around the building and parking lot. Inside is very CLEAN, bright, lit, with high ceilings. It has plenty of room to move around, lots and lots of tables/chairs, a separate room for children's section, an information desk, lots of computers with free WI-FI, shelves are very nicely organized with all types of books. Fiction, non fiction and other types of books.They have a full rack of MAGAZINES in the back, but YOU CAN ONLY USE THEM INSIDE THE LIBRARY! Can't check them out. An easy check out system by their employees, and they are pretty fast and quick. Employees are very nice, helpful and friendly. I have to mention them by their names. Not in any particular order: Brian, Devin, Dominique, Vince, Lupe, Kim, Kristine, and there was a lady by the name of Maureen that no longer works there. ALL SUPER HELPFUL whenever you need anything! I not only like to go and work there, do some paperwork, write bills, organize miscellaneous things etc...I also like to rent DVD's from this library, books, and if you request a movie or a book and they don't have it on the shelf, the process is SEAMLESS. You tell them what you need, and they will get it for you within a week and place it on their HOLD shelf, email or call you that the items are ready to be picked up. Has an ample size parking lot, clean restrooms for boys and girls, and a water fountain to fill up your bottle. What more can one ask for?? This branch is one of my favorites to go to! There's printers working well, friendly staff, a good amount of tables to sit at, and a cute decorated interior. It's easy to navigate through to find what you need from here. Checking out items is a breeze and I like how it is when I come here weekday afternoons. People camp outside waiting for the doors to open (as they open at 12pm on weekdays). Sometimes the parking lot is full but I've been lucky with always finding a spot or two open. Speaking of which, the lot is fairly small and I noticed some of the spaces are also actually narrow and it can be quite scary to try to smudge your way in. I think the ones on the outside walls are wider and thus easier to park in. Anyways, I always had a pleasant experience coming here and love the community activities and events you can participate in! This branch is getting worse. Still tiny, there's nothing they can do about that. They recently "renovated" -- they were closed for a couple of weeks and I cannot see what they did except to move all of the computers for public use to the middle of the floor where everything you do is open for all to see. They have some sort of privacy cover on the screens that does almost nothing. As you enter the library, you can see exactly what is on 4 screens. So, now, the area that USED TO be for working on computers is now just tables where people sit to do things like watch movies on their own equipment or sleep, which is a terrific waste of space. At busy times, you might have trouble getting near a screen, anyway, because people tend to just leave their stuff there and walk away, then get irritated when you have the temerity to ... you know ... use the computer. They seem to think these are Coat Check Chairs. Since libraries have become more about internet access than for resource materials, they do become a place where the homeless escape for the heat/air conditioning/safety, etc. So it is at this site. Unfortunately, if you are looking for a book in one particular corner, you almost invariably have to brave the stink-eye from a homeless person trying to sleep in the chair next to the shelf. And, of course, the odors. I estimate that they have a single staff member who is actually NICE and maybe 2 or 3 more who don't treat you like chewing gum on the soles of their shoes on a hot summer day, but they are not concerned with guest services at all. Their monthly book sales are a lot of fun and you can get large variety of items at very good prices. read more

The last time I stepped foot into this library was probably 30 years ago when I needed copies for class and Kinko's was closed. This Branch is still clean, quite , and easy to navigate. I didn't have any interaction with the staff, but they're around if you need assistance Studio City Library is on the smaller side but it's organized well. They have a copy machine, public computers/ printers , movies &audio, and weekly events. Parking is ample and there's plenty of tables inside to get some work done. read more

I've been to most of the libraries in the LA County system. Love them all, and this one is no exception. I use libraries to do work on my laptop and there's always room to work, everyone shares the tables with a smile, and the staff will laugh at your jokes, even the dumb ones. read more

I visit this library the most because it's the closest one to me. They have computers, copiers, and printers available, as well as weekly events (I've never attended) and monthly book sales (I alwaaaays go!!) This library is a bit small, but I always find what I'm looking for. I generally place books on hold and pick it up when they're ready, but have skimmed the aisles in the past and found some great books. They're organized, well lit, and they have plenty of tables to sit at and work. There's a little area for kids, tucked away in the kids books area, with tables and kid chairs. And I believe there are some computers for kids too. They're also an area for DVDS & music too! The few people I've interacted with who work there have all been helpful and patient, and I always feel good leaving with my arms filled with books! Parking lot is a bit small, but I've never NOT been able to find a spot. It's just always 1-3 spots left whenever I stop by. read more

Love the Studio City Library Branch. It's close to our house, the staff is friendly and helpful. They have a somewhat limited selection of books, but the good thing is you can request a book and they will send it to your local branch. They have a great kids section where we take our kids and they sit around and read book after book. They have a self checkout machine if you're looking to skip the line. Why 4 stars instead of 5? First is that the parking lot is a tad small. If you have to drive to the library there's a chance you wouldn't be able to find parking. Also, there story time is apparently only during the summer? Which is a bummer because our kids love going to it. read more

This is a nice library, the librarians are helpful and the patrons are nice and quiet. I always place holds online and then go pick up my books there, it's very easy. You can either check out books with a librarian (there is a plexiglass up), or there is also a self-checkout available, which I sometimes use. There are tables set up inside for those who want to study or read. There is a nice children's corner and I believe it is very popular with families in the community, especially their storytime hour. Only con is that sometimes parking is tight, it's kind of a small lot. There are a couple of spots for electric cars. There is some homeless around, but they are never a problem, honestly they're part of the community and everybody knows who the individuals are. Note that the hours differ based on the day, they don't open until noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. read more

When I visit a library one of the first things I think of when I am done is how easy it is to use. How easy it is to find subjects, categories and media like movies and audio really determine if I like a library or not. This small neighborhood branch is great. Easy to find and super nice librarians. When you walk in you can pretty much see where you need to go. Selection is pretty good. Movie section is easy to navigate too, with lots of new titles. Parking lot is a tad small but you can get a spot during mid day hours. read more

This is definitely a decent place to study once you find parking. It was my first visit and I wanted to try a new library. I set in the area where patrons look through DVD's to rent. It gets a little noisy but there is a sign posted requesting to keep noise to a minimum for readers. I spent half a day here and was able to drink my coffee and study in peace. I'm a book worm... and proud of it. I even won a prize in last year's summer reading program! A Barnes and Noble gift card! It was a highlight of the summer. Anyway, I'm not satisfied with the North Hollywood branch library (see my review) and thus, went to the Studio City library which is also minutes away. Although I love historic buildings such as the one the North Hollywood Library resides in, I'm a sucker for a new building. High ceilings, lots of lights, and a ton of space results in a very welcoming library. However, the library lacks a large selection of books! The non-fiction books (bios, philosophy, science, technology, etc) are contained within a 5 aisle area. I've been to libraries in which just one category receives 5 aisles! Very disappointing. As for fiction, the books are high on the popular (but lame in my book--pun!) authors like Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele but low on obscure authors. Another bummer. If you are looking for DVDs, don't expect new releases and you can only loan them for 2 days. Ironically, the North Hollywood Library has new releases in stock. Magazines? Again, don't expect much from their meager selection of Cosmo and Seventeen. But honestly, it's not THAT bad and I came away with 6 books on one trip. As for Internet, there is free wi-fi and therefore the library is filled with young men spending their time on Facebook (get a life, guys!). At least they were cute. The con of this Internet usage is that the level of "click click click" on the keyboard volume was so high and annoying that I could barely concentrate on searching for books. Very distracting! You can also use their computers for free. Overall though, a pleasant, bright library that I can still spend an hour or two in even amongst the Facebook creepos and click click click of their keyboards (learn to not pound on the keys, people!). read more

Whoa" That's pretty much the conversation I had with myself a few weeks ago when I decided to stop in here on my way home to check it out. (And don't look at me like I'm the only person who has Keanu convos with themselves...........hello.............*crickets*) Anyhoo, yeah, wow, this is a really cool library in both vibe and design and it was pretty full for a Wednesday afternoon. Kids reading books, elders reading books and even a really cute guy reading a book (is there anything hotter...actually?) It's also open til around 8 during the weeknights which is great if you are studying or really into that encyclopedia chapter on terrestrial crustaceans in the genera Armadillidium and Armadillo. More importantly, coming to this library answered my question about kids today and school today. I often joke with friends about how you would never actually need to go to a library again since near everything is online these days, but low and behold there are actually people studying and edumacating themselves in paper form. First of all, the speed here stinks major limburger cheese. Could it be the WiFi campers? Who knows. And the OS? Is this Windows 95? I feel like I'm navigating through Encarta's heyday. Still, it works. I was wanting a keyboard to operate whilst diving into the interwebz (instead of manhandling my phone) and reactivated my old library card from 5 years ago (omg...). The gal up front was pleasantly friendly during the process. It's a neat spot with that unique quirky 80's modern design, at least on the exterior. The bathroom is above-average 'meh'. And it's rather funny to have a key sign when they have they key basket at the end of the counter - well, why not just keep the door unlocked, eh? Or at least put the keys out of sight to be requested. Pffft. Is it worth walking to from 20+ minutes out? Only if you don't give a crap sometimes, you're on vacation and still debating on a rental car... oh wait, wasn't that me? Indirect perks are proximity to a pretty cool coffeeshop across the street. read more

Stopped in this location the other day for the first time - I realized I couldn't locate my library card and needed a new one since learning you can check out e-media books for your Kindle from the LAPL. This is a very nice location - seemed a little smaller than the Sherman Oaks branch down the street. We'll certainly be back as I put a couple holds on books to pick up at this location. My Nanny takes my 16 month old to story time at the public libraries every week. We usually go to Studio City or North Hollywood. Just wanted to share today's experience at Studio City since we've been having major issues with them. Every week the 10am Studio City story time sells out, so my nanny started going an hour early to get her tickets for 11am. Today she was playing with my daughter in the children section and when it was time for story time she realized her tickets had gotten stolen. She had set them on the stroller and apparently someone took them. When my nanny told the woman who works there what happened, the same woman who handed them the tickets an hour prior, she could care less and refused to let them in. She was rude and completely inconsiderate to my daughter who just enjoys story time. She doesn't know any different and it was totally unfair to take it out on her. My nanny texted me how upset she was, so I called and spoke to the library manager. She just kept repeating that it wasn't their problem and they can't let anyone else in due to capacity. Even though my daughter had her tickets. She didn't care about the tickets being stolen or how rude her staff was. She could honestly care less. The whole situation was just frustrating and really angered me. The little kids don't know any different, so why take it out on my daughter? You couldn't just let them in to enjoy story time they had been waiting an hour for? Until they get better organized and learn how to treat people, we won't be going back there again. Just a tip - Friday story time at North Hollywood is much better, a bigger space, there is no ticket system and all are welcome! read more

I was helped by the branch manager, Chris, who is very adept at helping more than one person at the same time, while delivering some the best service I've experienced anywhere. Each person is treated with maximum respect, not rushed and even when they were frustrated, he was patient. This is the gold standard of customer service demonstrated right at your public library! I strolled in asking for a library card and in under five minutes, had an LAPL library card. Fabulous! Easily accessible, nice sized parking lot. Clean and quiet. FYI I saw another user talking about the difficulty in accessing e-books. It IS a bit tricky, especially if you are not technical. Essentially, you will download an app called Overdrive (it's the same process for all the other local libraries, like Glendale/Pasadena and Burbank). Then you find your library and log in with your library card info. After that, you can choose how you want to download your ebook. i have a Kindle Fire, so it was super easy with the Kindle Fire. read more

Noisy. The staff does not go through any effort in keeping the library quiet. Social hour / Disneyland / happy hour - more than library. But it does the job if you're wanting to get work done without having to order coffee every two hours. Definitely buy a pair of noise cancellation headphones. read more

This is a decent branch, not huge, but airy, clean, they have a decent selection of books, movies, etc. The librarians are nice, I enjoy coming here. Usually it's quiet, comfortable with many seating areas. Their shelves are well organized, they have also various cool, helpful programs they organize. Parking can be hit and miss, the lot had a decent size, but it can still fill up. There's also street parking around. so it's not that bad. The library is very loud, there are tutors coming here to teach children , which is encouraged , but they are in the quite area , where people need to study , talking loudly , and the librarians do nothing about it . Of the Valley libraries, I enjoy Burbank (best parking and best customer care), Sherman oaks (worst parking and best open computers) and Tarzana/Encino (tight parking, but something is always broken) locations best. read more

I'm so torn about this library because I do spend a lot of time here, but about half of my time ends up being unpleasant. Whenever I come here in the morning or early afternoon, it's wonderful. Clean, quiet, somewhat empty, and icy cool - the perfect reading environment. But if I get here any time after 3pm, it's full of loud children, the parking lot is impossibly crowded, and all the tables are occupied. That's just no fun. If you do choose to come to the Studio City Library, make sure you're prepared to park on the side streets if you come after 3pm. And don't expect a large selection - what the library lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and cleanliness. read more

This library has its good points and its bad points and since all libraries are essentially good, we're moving into the A-Ok zone here. On the list of bad is very limited parking - and the suburban neighborhood surrounding it has restrictions, very bad acoustics considering it was entirely rebuild maybe 12 years ago (you really must keep it to a library whisper or your voice will richochet all over), noisy latch key kids who escaped their nannies, and targeted by Scientologists - don't ask me how I know! Then there is the Friends of the Library Group, who have a reptuation for being snooty. On the list of good is the Friends of the Library Group raising funds that other branches are envious of and thus some excellent book buying; you may find some really interesting titles are actually owned by this branch, comfortable upholstered seating in a few nooks and a peaceful outdoor garden area, a coffee shop across the way that's not a Starbucks, and on an MTA bus route as well as a DASH community shuttle stop - so you don't need to drive and find parking. You have a better than average chance of getting your two free hours on computers here with your library card, but like every LAPL the deadly 25 Cents per copy charge may prevent you from cranking out too many resumes or cover letters on the spot. If you are sensitive to being surrounded by homeless people, you will find few if any at this branch. read more

I LOVE THIS LIBRARY. This is my library of choice. Yes it's new and pretty. Everyone who works there is helpful and knowledgeable. They have terrific programs. The drop-off from the car is convenient...just like a mailbox. Sometimes when I'm between appointments, I drop in just to browse. The line to pick-up books moves quickly, even when there are a bunch of kids with moms and dads waiting. . One complaint: they don't have any of my cookbooks on their shelves. I tried to donate once, but something about library rules, so if anyone wants one of my books, you'll have to go to the library website and have it delivered from another branch. Yes..the library has an online service. Place a hold on line and when it's available, they text or email you that it's ready for pick-up at the branch of your choice. The biggest problem is the parking. It is savage. So many people use this library. The spaces allotted are not only narrow, so big cars have trouble, the lot can be a scary place to back out of. Sometimes it's easier to park on the street if you can find a spot. And then there is the North Hollywood branch, which is a very cool historical building and the Sherman Oaks branch on Moorpark if the lot is too crowded. One of the greatest gifts a city can give it's citizens is the public library... and this one is a gem.... and lacking in one thing....not enough books. read more

Studio City branch was my childhood library. In elementary school, my teacher would walk us here and the librarian would read us stories in the kids' corner. It was a cozy place, almost like a little cottage full of books. When I was in high school, they closed it down for renovations and built the space-age facility that remains there today. I was impressed while watching its construction; to think we'd have a 2-story library right here in Studio City! I'll never forget my disappointment upon visiting the newly opened library. They never built a second floor! I mean, high ceilings are nice and all, but come on! To make matters worse, the building contained half the books that the old library had! What went wrong? I'm not sure, but the city definitely wasted our taxpayer money by building this enormous, empty space and calling it the new Studio City library. Call me old school, but I preferred the original. read more

I work from home. Which means that I work wherever I want. I find that the library is a good place to get some computer work done. It's quiet, conducive to work, and has free wifi. It's much better than working at a coffee shop that is noisy with a bunch of people seeing and being seen. The Studio City Library is a good place to get some work done. There's lots of tables with electrical outlets to plug in your laptop. There's not a bunch of bums hanging out... if you've been to a library in a seedy area, then you know what I mean. The parking lot is free and there's free wifi. I wish that they allowed dogs, but then again, I'd never get any work done with Maddy running around. read more

Great place to study. They have their own parking lot right outside the building with free parking. Lots of tables and chairs in the open area in the center of the library. They have a separate "quiet zone" off of the main room which is great if you need pure quiet. The main room worked for my classmate and I, who needed to be able to discuss what we were reading while we studied together. Nice coffee shop across the street with great pastries and a few sandwiches if you need a break. We'll definitely be back. read more

This is a great place to hide out from the law. If movies have taught me anything it's to put a book in front of your face (preferably an epic novel like "War And Peace" and they'll never see you. Make sure you hold book right side up though. Common mistake. This place is in a really chill neighborhood. Almost like you're not in Los Angeles. Coffee Fix is across the street, so it's very neighborhood-y. And, for a small parking lot, there is little traffic (I went Saturday afternoon, around 3PM). I street park anyway. Their DVD selection is really good. They've expanded to television. And the check out ladies are very nice. They're very patient with my dumb borderline illiterate ass. I appreciate that. For a library, it isn't very quiet. So you may want to go to a park after you gather your books. I LOVE that there is still a place to get books. Tablets are so cold and impersonal. read more

On Thursday they open at 12:00pm noon, not 12:30pm as indicated. They have a lot of tables to sit at, so this site has more sitting/working offerings than the Sherman Oaks library. read more

Well, after years of only reading magazines and reading online I decided to get a library card. OK, lets be honest, I also wanted to meet a cute girl at the library. I guess maybe that's the hopeless romantic in me. LOL. Stopped by this branch on a Saturday afternoon. Strolled right in and asked the librarian how I could get a card. She handed me a form to fill out and asked me to bring it back to her when I was done. A few minutes later I was back and she was getting me all signed up. Voila, I was now a member at all L.A. public libraries. Awesome. I thought each branch had individual cards but nope, I was good across all of L.A. I was looking for a couple of books in particular but since this is a smaller branch I only found one of them. No problem at all. I walked over to the shelves and grabbed it. Oh, the computers and how to search for a book is a piece of cake. The library also has a reference desk to help you if you are stumped. There is also a area in the middle of the main room where they keep new releases and sought after books. These can be rented for a shorter period of time but if the books are that good, I'm sure i will tear right through them. When i was leaving the library i saw a sign letting me know that they were showing Argo that day. I went back in and asked the librarian what was the deal. She said that once a month they screen a movie and that todays showing would be Argo. Pretty cool. So I read my book in a matter of a few days and returned to pick up a few more. Sadly nothing I really wanted to read was in stock, so I settled on some Kurt Vonnegut (he is my favorite author) books that I had previously not read. Cant wait to finish these and keep feeding my brain. Parking: there is a private lot but its kind of on the smaller side. Plenty of street parking all around the library. read more
