I got my hair cut by Giovanni, who spoke English and told me that he's been cutting hair there for 33 years. He was fast, very skilled, and did a great job on my haircut. One of the things that I loved the most came at the end, when he outlined my haircut with a disposable razor and warm shaving cream, you don't get this in hair salons! They also offer to wash your hair after the haircut so you can leave completely clean. At $18 plus tip for the men's haircut, I consider it a good price for a great service. It took me a while to find a real old-school barbershop in Montreal and I'm sticking to it. So if you're looking for real barbers who aren't afraid to wave around a real blade and chat with Italian charisma, this is the place to go. P.S. If you need to wait your turn, I recommend going for an espresso at the Italian bar next door.

And then I was thrilled to find Alexis at The Common Room Barbershop, because he provided the best barber experience we've ever had, with both teen and parents leaving extremely happy. After sharing some photos and loose ideas of what my son was looking for, Alexis made some suggestions that addressed our concerns. He had great barber skills that we haven't experienced anywhere else with texturizing and styling. This was probably the first time the final cut absolutely met and even exceeded the expectations, and there were no complaints about any aspect. Alexis is also a hockey player and a fan, so the conversation during the entire cut with my son was a pleasant surprise and a great added bonus. His help with selecting the styling products was also very much appreciated. The shop's ambiance was nice. Scheduling an appointment was easy on the phone just a day prior, and the person who booked it for me mentioned the student discount, which I certainly can't complain about. Last time I went which was a few days ago, I went and had Steve cut my hair and he took his time (probably a good 40 minutes), and I had an awesome conversation with him the whole time. I'll absolutely be back to see him for my next haircut. The only downside of the place is that the wait can be absolutely insane. When I walked in at 1:30pm on a Sunday (the don't even open til 1 on Sundays) there was already a 10 guy line. So I ended up having to wait a good hour and 15 minutes or so to get my haircut. However, one has to appreciate the wait in a way, that means they are actually taking the time to get your haircut right. I would happily wait an hour or more to get my haircut and have it look great, than wait 10 minutes and be afraid to look in the mirror. Great job Steve, I'll be back soon.
