The daunting task of finding a new hair stylist was scary to say the least. I looked up Hair Expressions on Yelp. Impressed by the number of 5-star ratings and the longevity of the salon, along with the fact that it is small and family-owned. Bill went and got his first haircut almost a month ago. He took a selfie and sent it to me, saying he was very happy with the cut. I had just gotten my hair done at a local salon in Olathe, spent way too much money, and walked out feeling uneasy and unhappy with the result. I had a consultation with Dee two weeks ago. Filled with anxiety and in tears for most of the appointment, I shared my story with her. She listened intently to me while looking at the mess I felt my hair was, made some recommendations, tested one hair product on my hair (after asking permission to try it out first). I was completely blown away at the before/after difference. My ends were so dry and unhealthy-looking until she used this hair tonic on it. The results lasted into the next day until I washed my hair! She gave me hope that my hair, and myself, would be cared for from the moment I walked in the door. She told me she had a stylist from her shop in mind to do my hair, gave me her contact information, and when I was ready to schedule the appointment, she would be there working together with the other hair stylist, side by side, discussing beforehand exactly what they would do. I scheduled the appointment for two weeks later, this past Friday. Meriya was patient, she listened to me. She said she and Dee had discussed my situation and my hair, and had a plan of what to do to start "healing" my hair, one appointment at a time. She said it won't be solved in one appointment, but it would get better. I was wowed, more like blown away. I learned haircuts are not quick, they do take time. No one had ever explained that to me before. Meriya is young, but she takes her craft seriously. She can do classic cuts, classic hairstyles, and she is learning from a teacher with years of experience. I highly recommend Hair Expressions to anyone who wants to be treated as a whole person and not just dollar signs coming through the door. Dee and Meriya, you sold me. We talked about how my hair pulls red easily and that I was trying to avoid overly brassy tones in my hair. My stylist did such an amazing job. She pulled out all the darker hair, blended it with my previous highlights, and added the perfect toners to fix everything up. It turned out so bright and pretty -- exactly the blonde I wanted! I've just been using purple shampoo once or twice a week to keep it looking fresh, and it's still holding up great with no brassiness at all. I've been getting so many compliments lately, even random people stopping me when I'm out with my little guy. It makes me so happy! If you're wanting to go blonde like this, just know it's not a quick box dye thing. It takes real skill to lift, blend, tone, and correct everything the right way. First off, it's a super cute and very welcoming salon. My stylist was Pam. She was amazing! She took her time to make sure I got the color and cut I wanted that I showed her in my picture. I have had a bad experience in the past where my hair didn't come out based on what I had asked aka cutting a lot off when I had asked for a trim taking off as little possible. Pam was also really nice to talk to while I got my hair done. She's so sweet and personable. It was a relaxing experience. I panicked and tried to bleach my own hair a few days after it was colored brown. I was left with hot roots, orange and yellow hair.
