Beware of The Fizz contract…read more Our case can be useful for parents or students who are thinking of hiring accommodation in this residence of The Fizz. Because it provides interesting information about The Fizz contract. We live in Spain and our daughter hired accommodation at The Fizz Prague to do the first half of her university course via Erasmus in Prague (the second half of the course is an internship in a company in Spain). When our daughter signed the contract she was already in Prague and in the Czech Republic there was no emergency due to Covid 19, university classes were going to be face-to-face and the use of a mask was not even mandatory. A few days later everything changed. The Czech government declared a state of emergency, prohibited face-to-face classes and forced them to be held online and imposed the mandatory use of a mask, in addition to other measures, given the dramatic change in the health situation in the country. Due to all this, three weeks after signing the contract with The Fizz, our daughter returned to Spain from Prague. To be at home taking those online classes that her semester at university has become. (What's the point of your daughter being abroad doing online classes from there, right?). And there begins the discovery of The Fizz's contract. We contacted The Fizz to request the cancellation of subsequent payments and the return of the deposit (€ 1,060) due to the dramatic change in the situation. And several emails later, the final The Fizz's response was that the contract did not include the possible cancellation due to nothing that had happened in the Czech Republic: neither the declaration of a state of emergency, nor the cancellation of the face-to-face classes. And that although our daughter had been there for only three weeks, the four and a half month contract had to be fulfilled and all pending payments made every month even if our daughter was not already in the Czech Republic. In Covid 19 times of constant change, all companies show flexibility. Airlines, hotels, restaurants, real estate ... Even governments. But not The Fizz. That is, once you sign the contract, nothing that happens, nothing, makes The Fizz show flexibility with respect to the contract. Our personal recommendation after this experience is that you can hire The Fizz if you are clear that whatever happens, you are going to continue in one of their residences during the time signed (The Fizz facilities are really good, although the apartments are small and overpriced compared to the ones in the cities they operate in). But if you are unsure about the situation or about the changes that may occur, especially in this time of Covid, look for a less rigid student residence alternative than The Fizz. Because in case of unforeseen events of any kind, even as serious and unrelated to the student himself as those that occurred in the Czech Republic with the declaration of a state of emergency and the cancellation of face-to-face classes, the flexibility of The Fizz is the same as that of a brick . Each parent or student must decide if they want to take that risk when contracting with The Fizz. If we had known, we would not have done it. Hope this helps you.

Oh man, the Studentendorf! Not exactly a tourist…read moreattraction, or a place to stay if you're passing through Berlin, but if you are doing a summer program at the Free University (or need to live in Zehlendorf for some reason), this is the place to be! I was housed here for a summer program. The units are 4-5 bedrooms a piece and are very spacious. The rooms themselves aren't huge, but there are large hallways and a decent kitchen/living room area. Everything's sparse and clean, kind of like an Ikea catalog. There's a bar, which was fun to get drunk at, and some grocery stores within walking distance. We had to take a bus to get to the nearest U-Bahn stop (Krumme Lanke). There was a cigarette vending machine there, as well as a super old map of the building layout that had been graffitied and was totally useless. I know my friend rented a room there while he was looking for housing shortly after moving to Berlin, so I'm not sure what that kind of situation is like. I think pretty cheap, since you're nearly an hour from Mitte and anywhere else you'd probably like to go! Still, awesome place to party with a bunch of college kids.

I was lived in house with SB-Basic+ (30 tenants in a house - 3 floors) and the condition of the room was just awful. The size is like less than 10m2. The so-call fully furnished kitchen was just full with the bunch of broken equipments. The management were weak, i had friends who made complaints at office about his/her room electricity issues, and after 10+ times of report, they still unable to send someone. The management practically tried to ignore everything after got you settled in and paid the money ! Unlike the room in studentenwerk or other private house, in studentendorf schlachtensee. There is no private refrigerator, me and my housemates' food were stolen everytime !!!!! Anything you put in kitchen might gone ! Just put little bit effort, you definitely can get a better room with larger space and lower price in other places !!!!!
