The College of Agriculture helped me significantly in learning advanced concepts in regards to Plant and Soil Science as a transfer student from a community college. The job I currently work at aligns quite well with the curriculum taught by the dedicated professors both in general education and in the college itself. The campus itself is gorgeous all year long and the surrounding downtown area provides many helpful services to make life happen. The outdoor areas too are wonderful and are well worth exploring (time permitting). The financial aid package provided by FAFSA (highly recommended, if not mandatory to apply) too was something neither my dad or I expected to make use of. Not sure why some other reviewers experienced issues with the system. I experienced no problems the whole time while enrolled as a student. Perhaps my enjoyment of the experience is skewed due to the fact that the pandemic greatly altered many aspects of the university itself when I first transferred (then gradually rolled back). If I could, I would give 4.5 stars. At the end of the day, higher education is a choice, and CSUC was a great choice indeed for me!

I've been hesitant to write a review of Silver Lake Elementary simply because I always have a child…read morein school here and it just feels... oogy somehow. This isn't a bad school and it's not a great school. My oldest attended here starting with kindergarten clear through 5th grade last year. In the later years, we definitely had more troubles than in the early years. By troubles I mean mostly with bullies and such. And his teacher for a portion of his 5th grade year was simply awful. A new teacher came in mid-way but in many cases, the damage had been done. My other son now attends kindergarten. Since my youngest will be in kindergarten the year after next, we're thinking of waiting it out until she's done with kindergarten and then moving both Coral Academy Elementary, but we may make that decision sooner if we need to. But that isn't to say that Silver Lake doesn't try. They are rather limited in what they can do. The budget for schools in this state is deplorable and the teachers and administration for the most part do their best with what they have. And some of the issues we had were issues any kid could have at any school and weren't limited only to Silver Lake. It's a convenient location, a nice building and a pleasant neighborhood. The pick up/drop off situation has improved over the years, thankfully and is no longer barely restrained chaos. ;) So that's a bonus.

A lot of emphases is placed on learning with a laptop. . (All wifi are turned off at 11pm at night.). Considering all standardize tests in the US are computerized (MCAT, LSAT) and most work environments in the US use electronic records exclusively, lap top in classroom is a good idea. Students come from all over the world with the goal of attending a college in the US. SVA has transformed itself in the past few years to focus on college prep for international students. Class sizes are small, usually less than 10 students per teacher. I noticed the students get alone with each other rather well. This is observed during lunch time. I see students from different countries sit next to each other. Dorm rooms are 1-4 students per room. Most of the ones I saw have 3 students in them. There is a microwave on each hall, fridge and safe in each room. Overall the rooms are larger than the one I used to live at UC Berkeley 20 years ago. (unit 1 Cheney) and much larger then the tiny rooms at Univ of Tennessee. Washers and dryers are free for students to use. At night, dorm exits have security alarms, hallways are video monitored SVA pride itself at offering a balance between academic and personal development. They encourage students to take advantage of it's location to learn many physical activities Tahoe has to offer - hiking, soccer, golfing, cycling, ski / snowboard. I think this makes SVA different from other college prep school. I have the opportunity to spoke to students there. Due to the many Saturday field trips student take, expect another $4000 or so in additional expenses. While the students like them, parents may be surprised at the bill.

I love Sierra Montessori Academy (SMA)!…read more I have 3 girls, 6, 9, & 13. My 13 year old is an A & A+ student, but she hated school. I had her in Magnolia last year (6th grade) but the amount of bullying, amount of student swearing, lack of time to eat, & feeling of a prison had her crying & begging not to go to school everyday had me looking for other options. After talking to a friend who had a similar problem with her 4th grader and switched her last year to SMA with great success, I thought I would try it for my 6th grader. The difference was night & day! My 6th grader now loved school! She is challenged, gets to be creative and everyone is so nice! She still gets As & A+s and she is learning more than at Magnolia. SMA has a ZERO tolerance for bullying & swearing. My middle girl (9 years old now) was not doing well at Cottage Hill. She has ADHD & even though she was on medication, she seldom paid attention & often did not finish class assignments. Even though she went to Home Work club almost daily, I still had to re teach her what she was supposed have learned in class. I begged for an IDP or some help for her for 3 years to no avail. I can go on and on but I hope you get the picture. This year, she is pulled out for Brain Gym to help her focus & math & language arts to work in small groups. What a difference! My youngest was in Kindergarten at Cottage Hill last year. Her teacher was like a drill Sargent! No kidding! She yelled at the kids. My happy cheerful then 5 year old became depressed & hated school. I finally insisted that she change teachers & she did better. But I don't think she learned enough compared to my older 2 who had kindergarten at another school. Now, all my girls are at SMA and I could not be more pleased! My now first grader is all caught up & loves school! My girls cover the spectrum regarding learning & temperament & they are all succeeding SMA. SMA truly educates each child according to their needs. They truly care about each child and strive to ensure each child has the skill sets they need to succeed in school & life.
