TLDR; Stay away from this place. They're creepy, overpriced, rude, and very bad with children…read more Our child needed to use the restroom when we got there, and they said we couldn't wait for her outside the door. We had to go to the room for the appointment. That some staff member would "be there when she got out". We've never been there. Our daughter had never been there. And the first thing they did was say we can't wait for her to finish using the restroom? Red flag number one. Red flag number two. We hesitantly oblige and go wait in the room - only to realize our daughter had left the bathroom and of course, no one was there waiting for her. So she's in a new place, without her parents there, and no one to help (or anyone because the place was weirdly empty). I had to tell the staff it sounded like she was out of the bathroom for them to realize based on their own words they were supposed to go get here. And red flag number three. "Dr" stephen herself. Slinked into the room in a very creepy way, whispering so low none of us could hear her. It was so off-putting I can't put it into words. I had to ask her to speak up a number of times throughout the "consultation". Despite being asked to speak up, she immediately began whispering in the same low tone, mentioning that they don't want kids to remember a dental experience that could "scar them for life" so they have the kids drink some "juice" - yes she used the word "juice" - that would help them forget. I had to ask her what was in it! Which she then described as an amnesia inducing product called Versed. (Which has serious risks for children with asthma, which they did not seem to care about at all). I asked her if this was necessary and she said "no", then mentioned they could use a local anesthetic of some kind instead. We then asked her if we could keep our daughter company, at least be in the same room, while the procedure is being done. We were told no. How could we possibly leave our child with someone whose staff couldn't even make sure they were there for her when she left a bathroom ten minutes before? And the bonus. The procedure was estimated to cost a little under $950, and HALF of that was the so called "juice" (Versed). Obviously we left and are never ever going back there. All in all it was a loss because that "consultation" cost over one hundred dollars. Stay away from this place.

I don't do well with needles at all, and was also very nervous about the novocaine. She and her staff were very helpful before and during putting me under for the procedure and afterwards as well (though I did get quite panicky before and after!). She was very clear with the aftercare instructions and gave me a sheet that gave more detailed instructions and answered my FAQs. Her office person was also helpful when I called between the extraction and the follow up with additional questions. The follow up was very quick which I found to be helpful since I head going on my lunch, but Dr. Stephen was still thorough in making sure everything was healing okay before having me leave. Her office seems very clean and organized as well, and it was very quick getting in for my appointments.

TERRIBLE dentist!! The worst!!…read more She didn't tell me that I had an extraction site that failed to heal seven months after extraction, leaving an ulcer in my jawbone, then sold me 4-unit bridge that concealed the extraction site 15 years ago. She also placed a highly carcinogenic and allergenic 78% nickel and beryllium post into a tooth with root resorption, to anchor the bridge, which caused my jawbone to hurt and turn black. When my jawbone started to swell up and an MRI of my head at UConn showed a cystic lesion underneath her bridgework, she INSISTED there was nothing underneath the bridge and refused to remove the highly carcinogenic post unless I paid her another $3500 because, as she told me, "I don't wake up and go to work every day to help people. I wake up and go to work every day to make money." When I pointed out that not only was I allergic to nickel, but that the MSDS of the alloy she used to fabricate my post states that the alloy is contraindicated for use in posts because it causes FATIGUE and TUMORS, she told me that was too bad because I would never be able to prove that I had cancer (she told me that her husband is an oncologist and anatomical pathologist at St. Francis Hospital ) or find an oral surgeon to biopsy my jawbone (UConn has the only oral pathology service in the State of Connecticut and Dr. Keefe teaches dental classes at UConn Dental School and mentored with Ellen Eisenberg, head of oral pathology). She was right. I guess UConn and St. Francis doctors, dentists and oral surgeons all cover up for each other. For the last 15 years, no oral surgeon would biopsy my jawbone and no oncologist would see me. When I got a hard swollen cervical posterior lymph nodes last year, and had another MRI done at UConn the day after Christmas, I saw that there was a NEW lesion under two crowns she placed in my mouth. Still, no oral surgeon will biopsy my jawbone and no oncologist will see me. Do NOT trust this dentist and if you do go to her, get copies of all the x-rays and any photographs she takes, so that you can get second opinions before it is too late. She took a photograph of the ulcer in my jawbone, but unfortunately I didn't get a copy of it until 4 years later. Do NOT trust her, even if you think she is your friend. I thought she was my friend, our kids went to school together and we went to Cub Scout meetings together. She solicited my business thru this friendship, FALSIFIED my dental/medical records by writing WNL (within normal limits) in three places (where it said Bone, Oral Cancer Screening, and Root Tips) and then STOLE from me, BULLIED me and called me delusional for thinking that nickel and beryllium were toxic. She never even gave me a chance to get a second opinion about her "WNL" diagnoses or her toxic treatment plan (did not even tell me she intended to use the IARC Group 1 carcinogens nickel or beryllium). Bone lymphomas are highly curable, especially when caught early and NOT treated with known bone carcinogens. I have also attached several photographs to this review, because unlike this dentist, pictures don't lie. UPDATE JULY 6, 2015: Dear Dr. Keefe, You have had the option of responding to this negative review in a professional and compassionate manner and offering to fix your mistakes. That is what is so great about Yelp reviews. Unless, of course, your treatment of me was not a mistake. But then, that will be your legacy. Not mine.

The practice has been fabulous in helping me with an emergency, as well as two crowns and a four-tooth connected crown/bridge. Dr. Tracy is a concerned, considerate, and highly competent professional who carefully evaluates the needs of her patients, and responds to any concerns which might arise. I have, over the years, had a number of dental professionals take care of my oral health, and Dr. Tracy is certainly at the top of this list.

Here's a cautionary tale about Avon Dental Group in Avon, CT. I've been going there since I was a…read morekid, and never encountered any issues. Recently I needed to undergo a crown procedure. The day before I called into the office and was quoted ~$600 for the procedure. I have Delta Dental Insurance provided through CIGNA, which Avon Dental accepts. After the temporary crown was installed, the front desk refused to submit the bill to my insurance, and asked for up-front payment of upwards of $900 instead. I asked them why the number was so different from the price quoted the day before, and the nasty front desk administrator informed me that the person who helped me was mistaken and did not know what they were doing. I was told that since a permanent crown requires them to spend money I would have to pay in advance. I told them I did not have that type of money on me, and paid them $700, which they seemed more than happy to accept. After the final crown was installed a few weeks later, I met with the Billing Manager (someone different than the nasty front desk admin). She explained that they have contracted rates with the insurance companies, which is why they knew the exact price I would have to pay, and again quoted me this $900+change figure that needed to be paid up front. I refused to pay her the additional money at that time and said I would pay what I owed after the bill was submitted to my insurance. A few weeks later, I received my Explanation of Benefits from my insurance, and the price I was due to pay (after insurance) was as I had been originally quoted the day before the procedure: $613. I had been forced to overpay initially. And if they would have had their way, instead of owing me $87 back, it would have been over $300. I angrily contacted the Billing Manager and demanded to know what was really going on here, and how they not only could demand up-front payment w/o submittal to my verified insurance, but also how they could get the amount wrong by over 30%. TWICE. The Billing Manager ADMITTED that when the company was acquired a few years ago, they had over half a million dollars in debt on the books due to unpaid customer bills. To fix this problem, going forward they would charge customers upfront estimates and submit to insurance after that. And that it was the job of front desk workers to collect as much as they could upfront. And that they were good at their job. Yep. You heard that right. That they were good at their job, of intentionally overcharging customers initially before submitting to their accepted insurance companies! I told her I would no longer be a customer or patient of their office, and am awaiting my reimbursement via check, which I was told will be received in 2-3 weeks. This is how Avon Dental Group operates now. It is not the same place it was, and unless you want an experience like mine, I would not suggest you go to them for your dental needs!

They sent a dentist in at the end, I asked what this was about, technician says "Oh we always have a dentist come in" but they did not ask my specific permission. He literally poked his fingers around in my mouth for 30 seconds or so. And when I get the bill, they socked me for $56 for this poking. NEVER AUTHORIZED THIS DENTIST PART, NEVER AUTHORIZED AN ADDITIONAL $56!!! If you can't trust them for a simple cleaning, I sure as hell will never trust them with more. And now they have lost a patient. NOT HAPPY WITH THEM AT ALL.
