Yesterday I went to Dr. Strull's office for a consultation. As usual, he explained the issue very clearly, and he readily answered all the questions I had. In the past, I have gone to him and his son, Greg, for several procedures, including tooth pulling and tooth implant surgery. I have never had any issues following the visits. I consider both of them excellent surgeons. I also have to comment on the office staff, who are kind and patient. The atmosphere in the office makes it easier for those patients who may be nervous before a procedure. I feel very comfortable recommending them to all my friends. read more

I really debated writing this review, knowing the weight my reviews carry being a yelp elite member. With this being a family business, the last thing I ever want is to hurt a reputation or cause them to lose business. But after talking to others who had almost identical experiences to mine, I felt the need to share and hopefully spare one other person what I (and many others) went through with the practice. I had a wisdom tooth that needed to come out, but one morning it cracked and I was in horrific pain. The office I wanted to use couldn't get me in quickly, so I scrambled to find someone on my insurance. After calling multiple locations without appointments, I came upon Strull who was able to get me in within 2 hours. What luck, I thought. I arrived early and filled out all of the paperwork, it was easy. After a short wait I got X-rays done and waited to see the doctor. He came in and confirmed we would have to remove the tooth today, which I was prepared for. He numbed me and I ended up waiting in the chair for over an hour as he tended to patients in other rooms. By the time he returned the numbing had started wearing off, so he had to numb me once again. Another wait and then it was time. I have had one wisdom tooth removed at a different office previously & it was a piece of cake. I was in the chair not more than 5 minutes and recovery was wonderful. This process of getting my tooth out took 40 minutes, lots of yanking and cranking and drilling. Even when I showed visible discomfort there was no communication on what he was doing, this is why it's taking so long, etc. Once the tooth was out I was handed a paper with care instructions, being take ibuprofen and acetaminophen together for pain morning noon and night. I paid and was on my way. The pain was excruciating, although I kept up on the medicine duo and salt water rinses. Fast forward 4 days and I now have dry socket. I'm asked to come in and have them look at it. The receptionist filled the gap with gel and I waited to see the doctor. This time his father was working and he came in, said "this is going to be uncomfortable" and pulled a small piece of something from the hole. Crying in pain, I felt so upset with the entire process. One of the dental assistants came in and said "so the oxycodone isn't touching the pain?" I was FLOORED. Apparently they had called in a prescription for pain meds and forgot to notify me. Never once mentioned it and I went days and days in pain thinking that Tylenol was my only option. They handed me a gel filled syringe to help the dry socket at home. I broke down crying and left extremely unhappy, telling myself I would never go back. It has now been 13 days since my extraction and I am still in pain and out of gel. I called and asked if they'd be able to give me more gel and maybe call in an antibiotic because clearly it's not healing as it should. I was told I'd have to come in for them to call in amoxicillin. I could understand if I was calling asking for pain meds, but antibiotics that could have been originally prescribed shouldn't require another visit. I told her then I will just go without because I don't want to come back in. She said nothing and I reiterated my "that's okay, thank you" to make sure she heard me and was hung up on. This has been the single worst medical experience I have had in my life. Their motto is "be treated like family by family"... I hope this is not how family is treated. I will be seeing another oral surgeon for the other 2 teeth I need removed and hope this review helps someone in their decision on choosing an oral surgeon. read more

I went to Dr. Strull to have a tooth removed. He numbed me then left to care for other patients. When he returned to me an hour later the numbness had worn off. I told him and he said no problem and numbed me again. Strike 1. He continued with pulling the tooth. Mind you, I'm no rookie as I've had many procedures done, including root canals and such. I said as he was pulling the tooth, hold on, I'm still not numb. He proceded on and I let out a scream and physically pulled his arm away from my mouth. I am not numb! (Strike 2 and 3) He numbed me again, this time penetrating closer to the tooth, and I was finally numb enough for the tooth pull. Dr Strull informed me that I am eligible for a same day implant, which I was pretty concerned about letting this guy do any advanced procedure on me, but the thought of getting a same day tooth was too good to resist. He told me I needed a full mouth X-ray to determine if I had enough bone to do the procedure. I did the X-ray, which the assistant threw on a table/desk awaiting Dr Strull to return. He came back to my room and started the implant procedure without ever looking at the x-ray. (Strike 4) He began drilling into my jawbone and once again I was not numb and could feel a burning pain in the bone. I informed him and once again he continued drilling. I removed his hand from my mouth and asked the Doctor if he was able to handle this procedure. (Strike 5) He said yes, and numbed me again. Still feeling pain I was getting ready to have to remove his hand again because he was not responding to my pleas when he told me he was not able to do the procedure, that I didn't have enough bone. I said I thought that was what the x-ray was for. I said, "you know the x-ray that you never looked at?" (Strike 6) He proceded to put cadaver bone in the hole he drilled and sewed me back up. When I got home to my wife I told her I was lucky to be alive. The fun has only begun. Seems, on a previous visit in 2015 the office owed me a refund which they never sent to me. (Strike 7) On the new billing statement they never credited me for the refund in 2015 either. (Strike 8) I was billed $1000.00 for the hole drilling debacle. (Strike 9). The x-ray he never bothered looking at I was charged 460.00. (Strike 10) Knowing he ran out of strikes 3 innings ago and only a limited number of things he could screw up, this epic disaster is over. the environment is okay. Small, family owned. The elder dentist has been doing his job for fifty years - he knows what he's doing. His son is very serious and to the point, doesn't exactly make you feel the most comfortable but he knows what he's doing too. I had some complications from my wisdom tooth removal procedure - some nerve damage (but it has been nearly a year Post procedure and it's healed up a lot). Slow recovery but okay service. They gave me a head band and ice packs for post-wisdom tooth removal pain reduction, it helped a lot. I just recommend getting your wisdom teeth out sooner then later. Maybe it would've prevented the nerve damage from happening during the procedure or maybe the oral surgeon just isn't that great - I don't know. read more

My experience with Strull Oral Surgery was the absolute worst. From the time I had my crown put on the implant I had constant pain. My dentist checked my bite which was fine. Doctor Strull did the same. I mentioned to 'doctor' Strull after months of pain, I felt it was infected. Even mentioned the amount of puss coming from the implant. He said it was from a root canal on joining tooth. I went the next day to a specialist for the root canal who mentioned I had a very lose tooth. He prescribed antibiotics for the infection. Two weeks later I needed a refill of the prescription which concerned him. Frustrated, I went to take my lose crown off of the implant, and out came the entire implant along with with much puss. My 500+ Facebook friends were shocked when they saw the implant come out. I have a strong feeling I'm not the only dissatisfied patient. The implant was the cause of the pain, and the infection. Every time I bit down, the implant was moving, not the crown. My dentist and oral surgeon both were amazed at the amount of infection, especially knowing my medical history. Having had two heart attacks and several implanted cardiac stents, as well as lupus anyone in the medical field would have taken the situation more seriously. Naturally I went to a different oral surgeon. I needed a bone graft prior to new implant. My new implant went extremely well, but an additional cost for both it as well as new crown. One star is one too many, but couldn't post otherwise. read more

I had a root canal and cap on a molar that eventually cracked. I had been suffering with it for about 4-5 days and having difficulty getting into an oral surgeon for extraction. My endodontist recommend Dr. Strull. They were kind enough to work me in within the week. The office staff were friendly and professional and I can not say enough positive comments about Dr Gregory Strull. He took the time to listen to my tooth history while taking a through medical history. He discussed options and cost (since I don't have dental insurance) and answered all my questions. The extraction was not an easy one. He had to hammer, drill, poke and prod to get through the cap for probably 20 minutes, but talked to me every step of the way, explaining what he was doing and making sure I was ok. He and his staff treated me with dignity and respect. My extraction took place on Friday, I was able to go to a dinner theater that evening pain free. I took ibuprofen and acetaminophen for 48 hours and continue to be pain free 3 days out. I do have a bit if discomfort in my jaw but I think that is from holding my mouth open for 20 minutes during the procedure. Dr. Strull's father who also works in the practice called me to check on me the morning after my appointment. Post surgery instructions were written,well explained and easy to follow. Hope you never need oral surgery but if so I would highly recommend Dr Gregory Strull. Located in a strip mall on Shelbyville road, plenty of parking and easy to access. read more

Not a good experience, good luck! I asked to be numbed for the novacane shot. Dr Strull said sure and proceeded to vigorously shake my cheek and not numb inside my mouth. Dr Strull wiped a disinfectent then gave me a horsesized needle in the cheek! He did not numb inside my mouth before giving me the shot. I was numbed for extraction and the tooth was removed clean no break. I asked for meds so I could rest after this ordeal. I had had an infection and excruciating pain for over 5 days. Christmas holiday out of town. Dr Strull said sure, I said not just Tylenol something stronger, he agreed verbally. I went to Cvs and waited an hour for that prescription. Nothing, no scrip. Never sent it! I then got a dry socket and more pain. Terrible experience!!!!! read more

I have not posted a review for awhike because I have been nursing a wisdom tooth. I had been advised years ago that I needed to get it taken care of. I had refused because the last 2 I had done was so hard to get out. The first one my dentist Dr. Roark did his best not to hurt me. I was young and he had to drill it into 4 pieces to get it to come out. Then later when I was around 27 or so I had to get another pulled. I went to a oral surgeon. He was the biggest jeep I have met. He cut the tooth in two. I had bone fragments for a week come out. I developed dry socket both times. This guy did nothing to help with my pain. His numbness was nearly none existent. He really left a bad taste in my mouth. So today I was scared to death. Today I went to Dr. Strull on Ashley, my wife, recommendation. Let me tell you this it took me longer to fill out the paper work. Dr. James Strull, was afraid that he may have to remove it in pieces but he popped it out like it was a on and off switch. He made sure I was numbed efficiently before he did anything. He was amazing! I was treated with respect and kindness. He made me feel like he wanted me to not be in pain or feel anything. Dr. Strull explained the procedure and made sure I was sufficiently numbed before efficiently removing the wisdom tooth. He was very kind and respectful as was all the office. I hate all dentists and am shocked I am even taking the time to write this. But I had a unique experience I thought was worth sharing. I went to the Strull Oral surgery office from a referral from my dentist to get some teeth pulled. I had some miscommunication issues regarding the type of anesthesia and not eating/drinking before hand so it took three appointments before the work began. I am not blaming the office for the miscommunication, but sharing the blame with them because my hatred of anything dental likely was mainly at fault. So this morning the action began. The gave me conscious sedation which was way necessary for someone as phobic as I am, and that didn't kill the pain of the novocain shot(s), but did relax me enough to not physically throw the surgeon and assistants around the room as I anticipated. And when they went to work on me they were done pretty quick. Now that is all what I would expect from any tooth pulling office. But something strange happened after I went home. Just after dinner (mashed potatoes and soft eggs) Dr. Strutt (the elder of the two) called me to follow up. The actual doctor. I am certain I sounded short of patience when called, but the truth was I was so shocked the doctor would himself would take the time and effort to follow up I didn't know what I was saying. The point is that if the actual doctor cares enough to follow up, he stands out from all the rest who wouldn't ... and don't. read more

Been going to the dentist all my life but this was the worst experience I've ever had. He didn't properly numb me. I continually told him I could feel it and he told me, "I never said you wouldn't feel anything". It took his assistant suggesting more novocaine before he gave me some more. But by this time I was already crying and screaming. I've never been treated like this at a dentist. I've never had so much pain. Won't go there again. They've made me afraid of dentists now. I was in pain the entire night and I actually had nightmares of this experience. read more

My family dentist found I had a tooth that needed to be extracted before by vacation that started the next day after finding the tooth needed extracting. Dr. Strull was in the same office building as my family dentist and agreed to extract the tooth within an hour after my family dentist requested, he extract the tooth. Dr. Strull fully numbed my tooth and the tooth was extracted with no pain and no complications after the extraction. Dr. Strull and all his staff treated me well. The cost for the extraction was reasonable. I believe Strull Oral Surgery deserves a five-star review since I am totally pleased with their professional services. read more

Worst experience ever! While the doctor was informative and nice he also asked to refer him to others. I would not do that to anybody else. I would not want other people to be treated by the office staff as I have been treated. I went to this office in October because they were in network, under contract with my insurance. In November they billed me after my insurance paid their contracted rates, for the difference. I called the office and they were nothing but rude and awful about it. They threatened me that if I don't pay it they will send me to collections. My insurance paid them their contracted rates, what they agreed with my insurance, 100% but they continue to bill me for the difference which goes against their contract and causing me a tremendous amount of stress. Never in my life will I ever refer or go to this office. I tried to resolve it for the last three months now with my insurance involved. It's a nightmare. If you don't want stress and nightmares then stay away from this office. read more
