Had a nice evening at this restaurant/wine bar. I had a diverse selection of starters (1480 plate)…read morewhich contained great flavours and textures. (A really nice mozzarella that tasted as mozzarella instead of solidified milk), and a steak tartare among others. Then the main course arrived. I had a rack of lamb that was tender, juicy and full of flavour. With the lamb came green asparagus and French fries. It was a good portion size. My wife had a vegetable soufflé. At her second bite she noticed a very salty taste. After notifying the (very friendly) staff her plate went back in the kitchen. A minute later the waitress returned with apologies. She offered my wife a new main course (of her choice) and offered me a new course as well so we could dine together. Great service! We will definitely be back here. One of Westerpark's better spots for sipping on a glass of wine. The location is almost right in…read morethe middle of the action, surrounded by beer, boutiques, music clubs, and even an ice cream shop. The wine menu is embarrassing for an establishment that calls itself the 'wine factory'. That said, as long as your goal is to just have a good time with your company, you will not be disappointed. Just make sure that you ignore wine suggestions by the staff! I didn't have much good luck with a suggestion the first time, so I just ordered something safe the next time. To their credit, they let you sample a wine before you have to commit to paying for it. The menu has a bunch of foods for consumption as well. I didn't try food, but the bowl of nuts was nice with my wine. I am going to try the cheese platter next time. The place does get crowded on the weekends. Although there is a seating area upstairs, I much prefer the easy access to the restroom and the bar downstairs. It does get very loud. The staff could maybe help by not breaking something every 15 minutes. All that said, they also have a heated outdoor seating area, which is mostly blokes getting their cigarette smoke on. Maybe a solid 3 star venue, but an extra star for clean toilets.

The place is really a pub with a few rooms upstair. It can be a bit noisy in the evening because of the pub but rooms are clean and nice (European size, so not very large). Price are on the cheap side and you get an excellent value. I paid 60 euro for a single room and that included breakfast. The dutch breakfast is served in the morning in the pub and include coffee, juice, local cheese, eggs, bread and cold meats. Quite good to start the morning. The wifi is also free (rare in Europe). The hotel is well located the the little town's center with some nice restaurant and cheese shops nearby. Edam is know for originating the "edam" cheese of course which is quite tasty especially when aged. It is an historic walled city and it is quite charming. I did use Edam as based the last time I went to IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam when all the hotels there are booked and prices are outrageous. Edam is a short 30 minutes drive to the RAI exhibition center (less to downtown Amsterdam) and this hotel offer that way an peaceful, nice and inexpensive alternative to staying in Amsterdam (yes, it does imply a bit more logistics). The easy free street parking in front of the hotel makes it easy to commute to Amsterdam by car. An alternative is to use the bus service to Amsterdam which is a bit slower but also convenient.
