I am always somewhat skeptical about what I am going to find at a hostel. Anyone who has traveled much with hostels has one or two horror stories to share. The city of Utrecht is already beautiful enough but walking into this place let me take a deep breath. Let me tell you a little bit more.
The atmosphere is amazing. Cozy. Great lighting. Not too loud. Wonderful furniture set-up. The lounge/eating area could literally be a coffee shop that would draw regulars. It's definitely not a party hostel. I think they actually lock the front door at 1am to keep it as such. Perfectly fine with me.
The staff are super-nice. I always try to show special kindness to people who are hostel receptionists. They deal with people from all over the world asking the same questions over and over. These people literally blew me away. They were beyond nice and after checking in over a cup of tea, I was in a refreshed mood and making my way up to my room.
The amenities. You can pay less to stay in a room with lots of bunks or you can pay a little more to stay in more private accommodations. They also offer fresh breakfast in the morning which is a little expensive as far as hostels go but it's all you can eat. They also offer a budget breakfast if you're watching your euros. I thought it was pretty crazy but they also offer wash and fold laundry service at a reasonable price. That is pretty golden for travelers. They have more than enough city guides lying around and an up-to-date bulletin board with things going on. I can't think of anything that's missing.
If you mix a cozy coffee shop that serves beer and wine, a super-clean hostel, and a friendly bed and breakfast, you would land here. read more
