Loved this antique mall in downtown Frankfort. The proprietor, Rich Essick, purchased the building…read moreonly 2 years ago, but kept the original name. He told us the the building originally was a chicken hatchling house. The original sign hangs behind his counter. The store is extensive yet easy to get around. Aisles are wide and it is easy to see the merchandise. They carry a great assortment of local antiques and vintage items. Prices range from low to high depending on the item. Glassware is nicely displayed. The upstairs is filled with furniture. He carries an interesting selection of old pipes and campaign buttons. To get to the store, you need to maneuver around road construction, but it is worth it. Rich is super friendly. We will be back.

My friend and I drove to Frankfort to check out a few antique shops. Frankfort has several nice…read moreantique shops and is worth the drive from Indy. There is also a few nice restaurants on the square if you'd like to dine while there. Peddler's Alley was close to the square so we stopped to check it out. The building is much larger than it appears from the outside. Convenient parking is in front of the shop. I was warmly greeted as I entered and I immediately headed to a gorgeous fireplace mantle close by. The grouping was gorgeous with the mantle, area rug, chandelier, willow branches, rocking chair and other home decor items. The large shop has several rooms filled with mid-century furniture, prints, lamps, home decor, candles, glassware, stained glass and so much more. If you enjoy browsing or looking for something specific stop in Peddler's Alley and explore this clean, well organized shop. The owner is friendly and helpful but allows you to browse at your spend. Stop in.

Maybe it was just having left Gilley's that affected my perception of this place. Or maybe it's…read morethe lack of accessibility that this place has that keeps it from getting a higher rating. They have some nice stuff here, including a lot more furniture than I expected. They have more room upstairs for browsing too. But the barn seems small compared to the antique mall next door, so unless there is something here that screams "Buy me!", it's kind of hard to rate it higher. Be aware that this is an old barn and has a raised center aisle to walk on. That means low head clearance for air ducts, so watch out. Also, if you are rubber-necking and not looking down, the step down into the rooms/booths on the first floor is large (maybe a 10" drop!) and it would be easy to stumble if you aren't paying attention. Fortunately, the owner did mark the steps in yellow and write "Step" on the ground, but who looks down when you are surrounded by stuff at eye level? I guess I should have. On the positive side, there were some beautiful furniture pieces and a really cool store counter that had shelves that extend all the way through the counter, having a display window on the outside of the piece. This allowed you to see what was in the drawer as a purchaser. Not sure what you would do with this at home, but it was an ingenious piece of Americana. Review #1959
