INFECTION WARNING: always keep an eye out for double-dipped sticks!
*****************************************************
I've never posted on Yelp before, but this was important enough to me that I felt the need to warn others about it. Especially since this place has a reputation for being clean, which makes people let their guard down. Waxing is still waxing, so no matter how sterile the place seems to be or how many precautions you take, there'll still be some risk involved or a small chance of a slip-up.
I come here regularly for Brazilian waxes: it's clean, quick, and professional...but I got a skin infection once. I got lucky that it wasn't serious, I had thought it was just an abnormal looking ingrown-hair bump. (Before anyone judges me or suspects I'm just pointing fingers--for the record, my boyfriend and I have only ever been with each other and for a very long time, never having had any sexual health problems.) A long, long time later, I randomly came across info on the web about "molluscum contagiosum" which is commonly spread through bikini waxing, and I suddenly realized THAT was what that strange yet un-bothersome bump was. Lol. My immune system must be pretty good because apparently it could've been a lot worse. I only had a total of two bumps that resolved itself within a month or so. I guess my waxer, or another waxer who was using the room before her, accidentally double-dipped that day while waxing someone who was carrying the virus. The first time I tried bikini waxing, after meticulously combing through reviews and tips on Yelp and the Internet, I decided upon this place and it's the only place I've gone to since. I liked that it was very efficient and straightforward so I stuck with it. It's still great, except:
1) instead of staring at the ceiling as usual, be careful to watch that the stick is discarded after each dip during your session, and
2) there's this one much older Asian lady with a bit of an accent; she is extremely rough with the tweezers and rips the wax too hard or something, and the whole thing feels really rushed and super painful with her. I had bad swelling and irritation down there for the next few days. When I showed up to that appointment, (I never request anyone because all of the waxers are decently skilled and pleasant people), I was surprised to be assigned to her and confused because I'd never seen her before. I think she was just filling in that day actually, but just make sure you avoid her if she's there. read more
