Turned the wheel when the car was stationary - once. My first UK driving lesson and it was a horrible experience. Rude and so critical of every move that I made. I will not be booking more lessons with them and it has really dented my confidence in driving. I know I'm not perfect, but then explain, not criticise.

I wasn't 17 and my sponge-like brain had dried up somewhat, but even so a year and a bit later bingo I did it. I recommend Coles because you get a fair old amount of extra bits and bobs for your money. I left with a folder full of test trial handouts, rhymes to help you remember and handy tips about holding washing up bowls and whatnot to get your wheel positioning right, Top tip: Don't try and scrimp and spread your lessons out - it's a false economy!

It was a pretty cheap move from me because the first lesson only cost £5. We were worried about the expensive but you could get 11 lessons for £160 which is really the best we could find in Cardiff. The instructor has so far been fantastic and really patient with him. I think having a man teach him is easier for him to understand. He's doing his theory next week so fingers crossed he'll be on the road in a few months time and our relationship will be intact.

I also found 90 minutes to be a perfect lesson length. As I progressed I always looked forward to my driving lessons, as I developed really quickly and enjoyed both the conversation and all the great learning tips and advice. Peter uses visual aids to explain new manoeuvres or junctions, which I found really helpful. If you want to re-do something or ask questions, he is very patient and explains things very well. He is also excellent fun and extremely funny! Absolute pleasure to be around but also extremely an good teacher. I am especially grateful to Peter for helping me get a refund for my first test due to an issue with the test. He was on my side and kept tabs on the issue until it was resolved. Anyway, I was referred to Ceri by my partner at the time as she taught him how to drive, and to say she dramatically reduced the trauma I associated with driving is an understatement. Like any concentrative stylist, Ceri keeps the chit chat to a minimum, allowing you to keep all of your attention on the road - God knows I needed it! I was literally trembling when I came up to my first major roundabout (Gabalfa) and after only a few short months, I passed my driving exam at the Cardiff Test Centre with only one minor. Ceri also offers a Saturday instruction and discounts if you bulk buy lessons in advance. I totally recommend her - if she can teach me to drive, she can teach anyone!

I had 40 hours worth of lessons with BSM, including several at the beginning in a driving simulator. The simulator I was good at, apparently I got further into it than a lot of people. I was proud. But then came the actual driving. My instructor was very friendly and relaxed, and in retrospect I think he was a bit too relaxed. He was happy to have me drive around for 2 hours around country lanes each time, when actually I needed more of a push to get me over the hump of nervous driving. After 40 hours I had not learnt (or even been shown) how to reverse or park or three point turn, or any of that. This, to me, seems a little bit silly. But then, I've got no way of telling if I really was that hopeless. So for that reason I'll stick to 3 stars. Could be better though.
