The experience I'm about to write is my personal interaction and feelings about hiring the Debra Streeter Law Group. My sister and I went out seeking a lawyer to represent us in a will battle with my uncle. After our initial meeting my sister and I felt confident enough moving forward with Debra, she came across like the type of lawyer that would listen to us and have our best interest going into battle with my uncle (only later did we find out that we got little attention or direction from our attorney). We sat with her and explained the type of battle we were about to get involved in and she assured us that she would work hard to make sure we protected ourselves. We had a pretty simple case, my sister and I lost our grandmother, her will was held up until her husband passed away (he passed in June, 2013), which left our uncle (the Trustee) in charge of the disbursement of funds. We hired Debra to to get a copy of the will, get a copy of the accounting of the trust and to negotiate the balance of funds to be distributed. We never disputed the will, nor did we ever ask for anything out of the ordinary regarding the accounting of the trust, so I have to ask myself why it took a year to handle a simple disbursement? One year and $6,000 later we received the exact items that were listed on the original will written by my grandmother. My sister and I feel we made a poor choice hiring the Streeter Law Group. On multiple occasions we felt like we got put to the back burner. We never felt like we where a priority to Debra. We constantly had to ask for updates on our case. Each time we asked a question we had to call back or follow up with an email (being charged for the initial call as well as the follow up email). When we asked for copies of communication made by her to our uncles attorney she rarely had written correspondence, it was always a verbal correspondence. The end result was getting what we set out to get, our mistake was hiring Debra to represent us. It's never a good feeling having to keep the attorney you started with because of the fear of falling behind with any progress you may have made. We had this feeling with Debra. We should have ended our relationship earlier and took our chances, finding out now what I didn't know then we would have been fine with a new attorney and we could have saved at least $3,000 and at least 6 months of time. read more

This attorney Debra Leffler-Streeter inserted a Trust Protector language in the Revocable Living Trust of family members without any prior explanation and without their consent. In addition, she named herself as Trust Protector with broad authority. She doesn't provide a copy of the document for review but demands a signature before the client receives the document. This Trust Protector language was removed from the document at their request. The attorney had no choice but to remove it or risk referral of the matter to the State Bar. read more

I chose to contact Debra Streeter to establish our family trust, based on a neighbor's use of her for the same need. She didn't come with any great referral from our neighbor, just who they used after meeting her at some kind of networking event. (Found out after our experience, they never read their final trust document to see if there were errors or info they didn't understand.) We did end up with a $2000 trust, which is filled with errors PLUS Ms. Streeter's name dropped in as our "Trust Protector" without our knowledge, consent, or explanation what that even meant. (It's my guess this is how a lawyer wriggles their way on the "payroll" when the trust's purpose is set in motion.) In our case, we also ended up with an additional $900 bill for "nothing"... ...In the middle of our meeting with Ms. Streeter, going over the details of our net worth, etc., we briefly began to discuss the idea of incorporating our home-based business, an issue we'd been discussing for years. When my husband left to use the restroom and she and I were there alone, Ms. Streeter managed to get me to hand over my credit card to charge us half of her $1800 fee for setting up a corporation. When my husband returned, he was surprised at my decision, but went along with it since we had been trying to determine if it was in our best interest for so long. We both thought, "why not - might as well just finally do it and move on..." But, when we got home and talked more about it, and included our CPA in the process, the benefits still didn't outweigh the cost in our particular case, so I emailed Ms. Streeter telling her not to do anything on the incorporation process until further notice. She emailed back that she hadn't done anything yet, and would wait to hear from us. Two days later, I emailed and said we had changed our minds completely and did not want to incorporate after all. She replied claiming she had already done a lot of work on our behalf and would not be able to return our $900 deposit. This all took place during a particularly busy time for us, our business, and our family, and we decided to not pursue the matter further since the cost to us could easily be great knowing we were dealing with a lawyer to begin with! When I think back to the entire experience and the Trust document which is still filled with errors and about 100 questions left unanswered (I have my questions on post-it tabs stuck on almost every page of the 100+ pages), it just occured to me that someone might be interested in our experience with Ms. Streeter. BTW, she initially told us she would contact us annually via letter with pertinent questions to help ensure our trust was kept up to date. Haven't heard a peep from her since our trust document was established in February 2010 - except for the cheesy "newsletters" she subscribes to and sends to her email list, and a letter she sent a year or so back asking us to refer her to our friends, etc. Not a chance! read more

I was referred to Streeter Law Group by a small/local financial advisor group - I was new to SD County at the time and had virtually no personal or professional business contacts. I contracted to have a will, related health doc's and Living Trust created for my small 'estate'. The documentation was completed a couple of weeks after meeting with Deborah but upon reviewing the doc's with Deborah I quickly noted that there were a several typographical errors and an employee named on the document who would sign as a 2nd witness was no longer in Streeter's employ. The errors were corrected during this visit by Deborah handwriting in the changes on the original documentation and each change initialed by me - this is fully acceptable from a legal standpoint but after the process I reflected on this and to me it smacks of poor preparation/ quality - clearly Deb did not proof read the document in detail before that 2nd/final meeting with me. The 2nd witness turned out to be her new employee and her name also had to be 'penciled in' at the final meeting also. For $2000+ worth of pretty boiler-plate legal work I less than impressed. Streeter Law Group won't be handling any future legal matter for me. read more
